    "I'm never going to feel like doing this." This is me when it comes to exercise! Instead of listening to music to motivate me, I started listening to audiobooks and story podcasts during my workouts and only during my workouts. If I want to know what happens next in the story, I have to get moving!

    You nailed it when you said, "I'm never going to feel like doing this..."--I needed this motivation!!! I've organized my entire house this summer except for that one last closet in the guest room...and lemme tell you, it's awful! Lots of sentimental things for my husband, and tough decisions. But today I'm going to commit to working on it for 30 minutes, even though I don't feel like it. TY for the video, I enjoyed it so much! Everyone have a blessed day!

    I've been living in my house for 47 years and sometimes I feel I've lost control. I'm in my seventies and don't always have the energy to do what I have to do. I started watching your videos a while ago and started with a clean sink every morning. That was a good tip. Every evening before I go to bed, I decide to do just 2 extra things the following day. That's an easy goal. If I just clean one window in a week, I feel I accomplished something. Thank you for your tips.

  • @JustNatasha93
    @JustNatasha93 2 года назад +34

    Two things I’ve found that work for me. First is tying the cleaning to something else I’m doing anyway. If I need to use the restroom, I take the laundry back with me. If I’m making tea, I unload the dishwasher, etc. This has been a huge help for me.
    Second, if a task seems daunting, I just tell myself I’m only going to do the first tiny part of it. Something is better than nothing. And sometimes I do a little more once I finish the first part. Eventually the once daunting task is done.

    • @PlantPusher
      @PlantPusher Год назад

      I agree, pairing a task with an action already in play! As you said, while my coffee/tea is brewing I challenge myself to clear the counters or sweep or put away dishes as fast as possible. It’s amazing how much can actually be done in a short amount of time, especially when it’s presented as a game/challenge. I do this with a timer too…15 minute clutter clean ups have been GOLD!

    Love this!! My hardest thing is i work a full job at a hospital, then have a 45 min drive home. I get relaxed on my drive and still have to hop out of the car and make supper, help with kids with homework, set out clothes for all of us for the next day. Pack lunches etc..and so I have to keep going or if I sit down even to fold clothes I could literally fall asleep. I tell myself my family deserves a clean house, my kids deserve a nice sit down supper and my husband needs me to help with home tasks since he works a longer day than me. Life keeps going weather you fight it or not and to say "I am willing and capable of doing these things" has always helped me. Thanks for another great video!

    The “I deserve a clean house” was the golden ticket for me to find and stick to a cleaning routine. For years I felt like I was drowning in household tasks and always put it off to “I’m just not good at that” Last year I told myself I was going to challenge myself to get good at the things I’m not naturally good at. The first area to tackle was the cleaning routine and it started with “I deserve a clean house, my kids deserve growing up in a clean, orderly home” it’s been going so good!! Not perfect everyday, but good enough and eons better than before. It’s made a world of difference. The spaces in our home feel so calming now.

    Ever since I've heard you say "the future you will thank you!" I've been on top of my kitchen more. My husband cooks the way he likes to use the kitchen and I clean it. No harm, it's been like that since we met. But the one time I went out, left a clean kitchen and went to back to school night, and came back 2 hours later, kitchen was left a hot mess. The only things that were cooked was a french bread pizza for my son and my husband made himself a burger. I requested my husband to clean it up as I ate my take-out. It baffles me how my husband has a keen eye for color and detail in his design work but when it comes to cleaning, he misses the left over blobs of food on the counter. 😂🤯

    The "change your mindset" tip is SO important... I am still very much in the process of changing my - bad - habits regarding chores, but the "lightbulb" moment for me was when I was watching one of Lynn White's videos here on youtube (I think it was a "clean and organize withe me" but can't remember exactly) and she said something to the effect of: "Try to not consider cleaning up / doing the laundry / decluttering / ... as chores, but as homemaking. Try to consider it as making yourself and your family a nice place to live in". I am paraphrasing, but it was such a paradigm shift for me!
    And all your videos about organizing / cleaning / decluttering are helping me a lot because I feel like they come from that same place! Thank you for all of your hard work, posting well researched, relatable and realistic content out here!

    Again and always so helpful. When I find myself dreading a task, I usually realize I'm dreading the Entire task. So I joke with myself about finding the very most Tiny starting point that I don't dread. I make a game of how Tiny I can make it and I do that. It can be as small as putting an empty bowl out on the counter. I enjoy the idea that I've tricked my "lazy" self :) Of course, once I start, you know what happens ... It's soon done.

    I got some great advice about changing modes. When I come in from shopping or taking a child somewhere, I don't want to do anything except read on the sofa. I change my clothes into comfy "at home" clothes instead of my "going out in public clothes" and if I put on an old shirt, then well, I am already dressed for it, so I do the kitchen and prepare it for the next mealtime and throw in a load of laundry while I am cleaning. That helped and I have been married and taking care of multiple children for more than 25 years. It was easy when the kids were babies. It is harder now when there are just a few teens that glide in and out. Also, no computer/phone until I have done my morning tasks. I don't want to get too sucked into these awesome RUclips videos. There goes the day...

    Great video!
    I have a hard time getting motivated because we are retired and no one ever comes over to our house. So there's no motivation to complete tasks because.... I mean who's gonna see it?
    When my kids were home I had to stay on top of things because things can spiral out of control vert quickly. But now, It's hard to get motivated. Because I'm not pressed for time, there's always tomorrow. And honestly, I lose track of time. I can't remember the last time I've changed my sheets on my bed. Was it last week or the week before? Everyday is Saturday now.

      I completely understand. I am 4 years retired. I do a huge clean up before my family comes to visit as rarely does anyone else come by. I have done major decluttering in recent months but it is a slow process.

    I recently found mental motivation like never before. Our oldest is 10 years old and for most of his life our house has been moderately messy. I realized I don't want our kids to grow up in a house that's not clean most of the time. So here I am picking up the mess. Better late than never.

    "I deserve a clean house." That hit me straight away. What a simple idea. I'm the person that's sits on the couch and vows I'll get up in 15 minutes and clean the dishes. Yeah, right! All this positive thinking etc doesn't work (or, I don't let it work), but just saying I deserve a clean house is ridiculously easy. I'll start tomorrow morning and see how well it works. Thanks!!

    One thing I love about your videos is that you don’t edit out misspeaking. It’s so relatable. “Doorstop…doorstop? Door step…it’s a door step……(continues on). 🤣 I love it and don’t ever change.

    A lot of the times when I'm trying to find my spark to get motivated to clean, I'll tell myself I get to decorate. Decorating is literally the only thing that makes me inspired to clean my space, just so I can put plants on shelves and enjoy my scenery.

    It's also crucial to know that no one can just stop feeling how they feel and no one can just decide to have different thoughts. The catalyst to changing our feelings and changing our thoughts is literally by our actions. This is scientifically proven. An example I love is to tell people "Don't think of purple elephants." Well NOW you're thinking of purple elephants. I have a family member who loves to tell me and other family members who have anxiety when we're worried about something "Well just don't think about it." IMPOSSIBLE! No one and I do mean NO ONE can just do that. All of this is to say this is work and it does take practice. I struggled with negative self talk my entire life. And finally after some serious therapy and working on it daily I was able to break that habit. This is no different. So if you're struggling with getting things done give yourself some grace, know you're absolutely not alone, know it's not just a simple fix, AND know that with some work and doing these acts, literally going throw the motions even though it feels weird or useless, you CAN turn it around. I dropped the last clean spoon on the floor and surprised myself by saying "Well that's OK. I'm human. I'll just hand wash this and then eat my breakfast." What a change from my past where I would tell myself I'm an idiot and I would be really angry about it. Negative self talk is, unfortunately, incredibly powerful. And not in a good way. Thankfully self compassion is also powerful.😊

I absolutely deserve a clean kitchen and I am grateful and so blessed for the house I living in. Right after I finished watching, I started mopping and washed my dishes. There was something that you said, or the way that you said it that really motivated me to get up. This is one vlog I will definitely watch when I need that motivation again. Best Wishes

    We are like computers. They have to be programmed. I was absolutely a default thinker. It's called "stinkin thinkin". How do we think about ourselves? I now press the button of a new reality. I clean up the mess, because I'm worth it. I don't live under, I live above. This principle can be applied in every challenge. Hallelujah!

    I am a person with anxiety and depression which often makes the task of tidying difficult for me. Unfortunately having a messy home makes my depression and anxiety much worse. Learning how to keep up with the mess and clutter is very important for my mental health as I am moving into the life stage of having my own family in the next few years. Thank you for the advice, it's a battle but I deserve a clean home!
