It Is Wonderful to see a young lady not intimidated by machinery!! I worked with a young lady doing line maintenance for United airlines in the 80s-90s. Smartest mechanic I ever worked with!! Truly.. great and challenging way to make a living. My hats off to You😅

Bless yer heart moi dear, only one as young and beautiful as yersel could call that bandsaw vintage! Why its probably younger than me!! Cracking build Kim! Heres a tip, only use two castors and two solid feet and fit a couple of hinged handles so you can move it around, but when you let go the handles drop out of the way and the stand stays put! The brakes on those wheels sometimes creep when you are pushing at the blade! Really enjoyed that! Phil
Good job. Try programming a ramp to start delay on the vfd, say 2 seconds. This allows all the slack in the drive train to be taken up smoothly. All the best.
Nice find Kim! Glad to see old iron being put back to work! That saw would look great with a new paint job. Believe it or not, that should be a standard machinery paint color. Regarding the logo plate on the front: There is a fellow here in the US that makes reproductions of those old machinery tags. He does BRILLIANT work. Let me know if you'd like his info. Cheers!
On my slightly bigger floor standing Startrite bandsaw I 3D printed the table inserts as they are effectively sacrificial - I can just print another on demand!
Nice job, I always like it when some bit of old kit is brought back to life and is able to do what it was made for. I changed my tyres a few years ago on my band saw, the people that supplied them provided me with a little tool to help put them on. Looking forward to watching you use the band saw in anger, nice to see you using the milling machine definitely a useful little machine. 👍
Kim , you do such nice work. The tip about opening the wire tie bag in the center is a million dollar tip , I have pick them up off the floor to many times grabbing the wrong end of the bag or dropping the bag ….

Great table/cupboard, nice Invertor drive installation, spot on ref Star Delta configuration, Delta = lower voltage and higher current. What is the name of the 3 core cable stripper, not seen those before? Brilliant restoration and upgrades Kim. Thanks for sharing.

For anyone that comes across an old single phase old bandsaw, you can still convert it to cut steel. I was given one by a friend, I think it was a 1980's Metabo. I reduced the speed with a single to single phase VFD. They're not the easiest thing to find & the only video's I could find describing their use were Italian, which I can understand. A couple of issues converting mine were that the motor had a centrifugal switch on the shaft that would disconnect at the low speeds needed & I didn't want to spend 200+ quid on a permanent capacitor motor but I will one day. Apparently, if the switch disconnects, the windings overheat but I'm no expert. I just took the centrifugal switch out & added a conveniently place momentary switch wired to the front of the bandsaw instead. The idea of the VFD's is that you use a permanent capacitor motor but easily by pass it & wire the windings wire to the inverter & cap off the other one. It will work with the cap still in place but the torque will be lower! Definitely worth knowing about these inverters & I wish I knew about before I built my 48 x 2" belt sander as I'd have bought the right motor for it to start with. These inverters are called AT 2's not AT 1's
You need to find yourself an angle plate or small box cube for the mill, which would allow a vice to be held 90 degrees to the table which would have allowed that infil piece much better clamping, as that was a lot of stick out for the slitting saw.
@CalamityKim1 Box cubes can be hard to find in decent condition for sensible money. I got hold of a 10" cube which is a good size for a Bridgeport, but your mill would want a smaller one. Tooling for machines is a never ending hunt.
@@CalamityKim1 Hi, you don't always need a full size set...although the gas cost is more compared to full size, an X or Y ( medium - fat or slim ) oxy size is very handy when used with compatible sized acetylene . Plus the set is more easily transported for outside work. A cheap sack barrow from machine mart makes a great bottle trolley . The smaller sized torches fit the set up nicely.
Nice one Kim. You can't beat the old single casting chassis bandsaws. They run much smoother and quieter as long as the band wheel bearings are still good. Personally I would urge you to replace them when you get the chance.
The bearings are totally fine on it to be honest. I was going to replace them but it seemed a pointless exercise. Part of the noise is coming from the guides. The camera makes it sound much worse than it is as well.
Such a great video , just love , the old style machinery , much better quality than modern tinny rubbish or the famous made in China badge 🤮🤮not for me !! Love the way your showing how your adapting things to your requirements in the workshop. For chanching the bands, put them like 15 min in warm water, like if you give a baby a bath. Than they will go easyer on the disk. You made it a fine tool!

I believe it's because the new motor is not as heavy as the original one .the belt was originally tensioned by the wait of the motor.

Excellent. I prefer brass to steel blade guides. A bit of tension on the drive belt may help too.

Yes I could but the VFD at low speed on a large pulley reduces its torque considerably. So it’ll stall out.

Did you put a cut off wheel inside a skill saw to saw that plate?
Curious about why you would use a step pulley if you have a VFD?
So I did it because the VFD lowers the power when you reduce the speed with it.
Is that just a regular circular saw with a metal blade in or is it a proper metal saw? Hitachi or hikoki? Could do with one.

Hitachi is the old name now. But yes it is a steel cutting saw. Evolution make them as well. Really helpful having it!
