Why and how to use a whippy club, such as SKLZ Gold Flex 48 or Orange Whip. This golf training aid assists in flexibility, strength, swing path, rhythm and other facets of the game

Thanks for the video, confirms that I’m using this trainer correctly. Also helps me when there’s snow on the ground or it’s a rainy May weekend and I want to practice my swing indoors 👍🏻
Just bought one of these, nice tool to warmup with. Price very good
I bought the Sklz five months ago and my game has improved. I have had lesson and a lot of practice but thats nothing new. The only new variable is the Sklz. My swing is faster and my distance is greater. I have a better turn and my left arm is straighter, though not completely straight yet.
On the other had, I have experienced significant pain in my left hand and wrist that might have been caused by the strain put on it due to the Sklz. Stretch your hands and wrists a bit before you use it.
Great video Mike! I was able to pick one up that’s arriving today. Hope all is well with you and the family!
Hey Tyler, hope you find it helpful. Yes family is doing well! Hope you are.
Gotta get me one of those!! Love golf and just went thru three months of dreaded pull hooks with my driver!!
Hi Ray. yes, it's a great tool! Thank you for watching.
i have had one of the 48 inch skls swing plane ,but i just got a40 inch one very good for in doors Malcolm Bolton
Great video!
I'm a 14 index and have been a mid handicap for about 20 years now.Lessons and hard work have never helped me one bit so I'm going to try one of these out.Been looking at them on and off for a few years now, finally bit the bullet.
Thanks for the informative video, much appreciated!
@ John Adams Hi, just wondering if you bought it and has it helped? I'm thinking of getting one, but not sure if it's a gimmick or not.
@@eoinbairead3924 Frankly speaking I have not practiced with it enough to give an honest answer. I think if I used it frequently for a few months then I could give an honest answer. Tell you what, if you buy one and regularly practice with it come back here and let me know:)
@@Grayback1973 How about now?! have you practiced with it and can you share any feedback
Good job with the explanation. Most Golfers need lessons and practice the technique. More time at the range and less time on the course. Me: 40 years teaching Physical Education.
Hey there! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the tip!
You’re very welcome. I hope it helps!
Love the concept. Playing partner had one the other day and loves it. So here's my question. I hit the driver fine. It's the mid irons I have a tendency to pull lately. I was wondering if the shorter trainer would be better for irons or if it does not matter, just get the longer one? I saw how you demonstrated how to use it for the irons. Thank you.
Hi Mark, the long one would be perfectly sufficient to use for your irons. We have both sizes and they are equally effective. Thanks for watching!
If you hold the trainer just below the yellow part of the grip, it's a standard driver length.
I use this and the swyngyide together. I usually feel like a fool but it has helped me stop shanking the ball. Ive been golfing for a month and I dont hit it far yet but my swing keeps getting better.
There are many components to how to play golf better. One place I discovered which successfully combines these is the Gavs Golf Tactic (check it out on google) definately the most useful resource that I have ever heard of. Check out the amazing information .
great video! subscribed. Question: do you recommend the 48in or 40in for 5'10" male? Thanks!
Buy them both. I'm same height. The shorter one helps when you're trying to unwind at the office/home and need a little more clearance (probably helps my iron play as well). The longer one helps me extend for fairway & driver paths. It's a low cost investment for the payoff on the course. Another tip is to watch yourself via a really large wall mirror while swinging. I happened to have one at home and was able to improve my short backswing.
thanks for the reply, went with the 48in one for now, I'm super happy with it. I'll probly try to grab the other one as well somewhere down the line. glad to hear its helped your game!
You didn't use the sleeve feature on this training aid! Helps pathing & flexibility in the backswing.
Can this also help getting the club parallel toward the bottom of the downswing? I’ve been struggling to achieve this bent forward downswing position where the shaft is basically parallel at the bottom before you strike the ball. I’ve seen the “skipping the rock” exercises and can get to this position during a very slow practice swing but when I actually do a full swing, it goes right back to more of a chopping action. I can send you a clip of my swing (5 second video) to see what I mean.
Send your swing along to mike@sullivangolf.net and I can take a look. Thanks for watching.
@@MikeSullivangolf thanks Mike, I sent my clip this email.
Thanks for the video Mike - is it also legal to use the Skilz club for practice swings on the course during a round?
Yes
No. It most definitely is not!
If you're not playing in sanctioned event it's legal to do whatever you want.... Just keep your clothes on out there 😂
I got impact tape and my shots are pretty consistently centered but I’m still sending balls to the left and sometimes right 🤷🏻♂️ any practice ideas to help get them closer to the flag and not in the trees lol
Hey there,
Without watching your swing, it’s hard to diagnose. However, you may be opening your club face on the backswing and having to time it perfectly to get back to the ball. Any slight miss could result in trouble. Try to see where your club face is on your takeaway and impact, preferably on slow motion video.
Mike Sullivan thankyou for replying! I had someone video my swing and I guess I don’t have the knowledge to analyze it but it feels as though it’s too wild looks loose? If that makes any sense.
How long do you warm up with the swing trainer? How many minutes?
A few or some, depending on your preference.
Vijay actually hits balls with his
Is there video on that
@@victorboyd9881yes
How long do you recommend using the swing trainer prior to a round? 5 or 10 minutes?
It really depends how much time you have. It’s not gonna hurt you to do 10 minutes with the swing trainer but if you’re short on time a little bit is better than nothing.
@@MikeSullivangolf ok great thanks!!
Is it any good for increasing speed?
Absolutely. Imagine it's just like swinging two clubs together. The weight helps to improve the use of the lever. Hope that helps.
Are there different lengths?
Yes, there are different lengths.
Can it help with early release?
Yes!
Ive read much conflicting information about swing aids that are heavy vs swinging a driver shaft with no driver head to create club head speed. I bought this exact thing and Im getting it this week to see if it improves my swing. Im single handicap "8" but still have my issues. I know it will make your clubs feel very light after swinging this heavy thing. NOW physics tell me if muscles and brain are used to something heavier when turning in a golf swing, that you should be able to swing faster or more effortlessly feeling and hit ball just as far. I swung a driver shaft the other day and it destroyed my rhythm on my irons driver etc.... It made my clubs feel like rocks on the end of a shaft. I read a blog by Jason Day who said dont swing heavy club trainers. They will make you swing slower. Swing light to swing faster. Thoughts?
hey Scott, could you please share your experience with this swing aid? thanks!
Scott Peterma
Is the ball supposed to hit the ground
Hi Sean, no you should it swing the club so that the ball at the end is slightly above the ground.
i think this performance golf zone #ad guy just called me a boomer.

Fine to keep in your bag, but if you use it during a round it is a penality!
Doesn't it just simulate swinging a golf club? Why not just swing a golf club standing straighter up to "feel" what a smooth swing will feel like without concentrating on your head height and the pullback or grip.
It’s much longer and heavier so it makes it hard for you to manipulate the club with your hands.
I hate how everyone exaggerates the "over the top" example
The reason we exaggerate it is so you can see it with the naked eye. The subtleties of the over the top swing can’t often be seen by amateur golfers without slowing down video and comparing it to an ideal swing plane. Thanks for the feedback and allowing me to explain why golf pros do this.
Cause it’s a bad thing in golf lol
here is what this guy FORGOT to tell every one, after swinging this training aid YOU MUST wait 10 to 15 minutes before you hit balls , your BODY needs to re adjust , if you do not wait you will start off swinging to fast and out of controle.............
patrick kennedy wrong
I agree. I purchased one of these gadgets and after swinging the trainer I picked up a club and tried to hit a few balls. Weirdest feeling I have ever had as it felt like I was swinging a licorice stick, the golf stick felt really floppy...
I would not use it right before I played.
Is this a good product to gift a very avid young golfer? Or is this product more so for beginners? What is your feedback after a year of use?
Does ROPE do the same to your swing for $5? LOL
why does sklz knock off products so much?
You mean hire lawyers to go around a current patent then undercut them again by selling them for half the price, so you can legally steal customers...I see how its done and my product will be protected so good you will just have to come begging me to licence part of my product. And I will then tell you to go fly a kite and I really hope you try to steal it because if you do I will take everything you own.
The orange whip will last longer so in the long run you are saving by getting the orange whip.
The sklz is just as good a product as the orange whip
You get what you buy the gold flex seems good but will not last as long as the 🍊 whip.
I'm interested, why do you think that is? is it the material? or?
Mine has lasted for years.
@@kipdole have owned mine for over four years now:)
Some gold flex reviews complain that the grip comes loose after intense use and it cannot be replaced like you would with a golf club.
