Batman dosen't kill villains for many reasons. 1. He believes that villains can be rehabilitated. 2. He would be as bad as the criminals he fight. 3. If he kills someone, Gotham will return him something worse. 4. It would be a mockery to his parents. 5. He has to show his allies and Gotham that they are better than criminals. 6. His allies including the GCPD would abandon him and other younger heroes would start to kill too. 7. Because he has morals and rules. 8. Because the law decides someone's fate, he just brings them in. 9. Because criminals can continue living with the fear of Batman and maybe stop with crime altogether. 10. Because he's Batman.
+Bryan Leong One thing I saw in the video, another possible reason; as long as there is evil in the world, as long as we are the flawed, fallible people we are, there must be a difference. Something for the pragmatical, practical, mortal mind to distinguish themselves, good from evil. There is evil in the world, as there will be till the end of days, and this evil, while it tries to corrupt the good and decent, it's existence helps cement the line. The continued existence of evil is dangerous, true, but as flawed and fallible we are, without the bad guys, without evil(and spirituality, but that's beside this point), how would the "good" that is left keep itself from being corrupted? Though the evils of this world seek the corruption of the good, it's very existence helps give reason to the good to avoid the corruption. So long as evil exists, the good must be vigilant against it. Just a thought :).
+Bryan Leong Comic Code authority made him stop killing. He used to have guns! But in modern comics, my favorite is Kingdom Come: Superman says to Bruce, deep down inside, Batman doesn't want anyone to die. A more "christian" view: radical egalitarianism: there is no explanation as to why some are "bad" or "good" and we all deserve a decent life as long as we keep the "bad" from harming others.
The most recent episode of Gotham more or less supports this Treesicle, especially this line, where Bruce confronts the guy who killed his parents "I wish you were a monster, but you're just a man" He ultimately accepts that the man who killed his parents, is nothing more than a result of a constant cycle of violence and crime and Gotham. So he accepts the challenge of trying to fix it, even if he doesn't know how yet.
Gilmartin Pares he didn't kill him in purpose, he threw himself at him and they both fell, batman grabbed himself from the rooftop and he caught the kid, it was the kid or Harvey he couldn't help both of them.
Batman won't kill because if he kills a murderer, there will be the same number of muerderers in the world after he kills him. Batman won't kill because he still believes in justice. Batman won't kill because he won't be like the man who killed his parents. He won't kill because it would be too easy. He won't kill because, if he does, then what? another and another and another and he'll become what he started fighting against.
But if he kills multiple killers, the number would decrease. Oh, and his sidekick wouldn't be beaten with a crowbar to near death. H wouldn't even need one.
also wiyh the conscious of his parents they were killed by criminals because criminals killed his parents of he kills intentionally he is a criminal making him the same as the man joe chill who killed martha And Thomas wayne
logan clarkston Origins was the worst superhero game of the 21st Century! It dismisses previous Batman continuity by making the Joker the main villain of the story instead of Black Mask, a minor Batman villain that would have been more appropriate in a game that took place 5 years before Arkham Asylum. I mean, the Joker is supposed to be in Arkham Asylum when Black Mask is first mentioned, so WHY THE FUCK did they make the Joker's first appearance take place during the reign of Black Mask! Honestly, it is a middle finger to Batman fans.
Batman = The Definition of Insanity He keeps fighting criminals over and over again. It's an infinite loop. I wonder if he believes things will get better.
JFairy He hopes; batman wants to protect the city that his parents cared for. He might see it as the last thing left behind by his parents, aside from himself. Batman has stated himself that if he willingly killed, he'd probably eventually go down a dark path like a super criminal, and burn gotham to the ground. ra's al ghul is probably the closest thing to what batman would become if he lost his sanity, except scarier. Like Ra's, he'd probably start judging cities and would start burning them all down to then shape them into his own image.
Ethan Bixby the guy may have you believe that its not insanity, but it is. lets read the definition of insanity for a minute, shall we? Insanity; Dressing up like a bat at night while looking for crime to fight telling everyone you are the night.
+abid hossain Simply...If you kill a killer your a killer too, If you kill two killers your a double killer and it's the same thing. And if you kill multiple killers your a serial killer, batman believes that he can reduce crime withought doing it himself. He also believes that if he becomes the figure which criminals will be scared of then criminals will stop being criminals! In the end batman is a wise, smart and great superhero.
Agent Ratzi My favorite superhero is batman but I think his no killing without exception rule is flawed. He is selfish in his own kind of way. Every time he puts a psychopath like joker behind bars knowing that the police will not hold them forever and when they get out, they will probably kill civilians before he can reach them. It happens all too often. A lot of civilians have been killed under his watch and more will continue to die for his rule. Yes he is wise. Wise enough to know this. But he would rather gamble with innocent lives and loose rather than sacrifice that rule.
Batman has lost control before. In one of my favorite Batman stories "The Cult", Bruce is under hallucinogenics by a fake religious organization that murders criminals within Gotham. He tries murdering Two Face with a gun, and has no idea why he's doing it. Robin has to save him, before he finally sees the truth. They then get their revenge on the blood bathing, cult leader that imprisoned Batman. Read it
+Sky Dayer I rent the book from a nearby library. See if they got graphic novels at your local library. Mine has so many Batman books, and its fucking awesome!
Hate it when people say that... Obviously batman v superman batman is just done with criminals, so he just beats them up and leaves them almost alive when he can, but when he cant, he just kills them. Writing this made me realize how insane batfleck is.
if that is the reason why you hate bvs then you should hate every live action version of batman since 1989 cause he kills at least 1 person in every single movie well except clooney he killed the franchise yes even bale killed
In the Arkham series Batman leaves everyone of his "victims" with a resting heart rate of about thirty beats per minute. This is suggestive of complete heart block. How he achieves this with brute force alone, I'm not sure, but it's extremely clever nonetheless. Every single one of these thugs for hire must then go for Permanent Pacemaker insertion almost immediately after their encounter with Batman, or at least get a temporary pacing wire to tide them over until they are stable enough to have a PPM fitted. Now they face a life choice. Give up the life of crime (or at least violent crime) in favour of a desk job as their cardiologist advises, or, do they go through a bit of cardiac rehab and go back to what they know best. Three weeks down the line. Batman encounters them again. A lot of these guys run around with no top on, so Batman immediately recognises this is one of his Trophies that required cardiac pacing. He looks round further and realises he's facing off with about 40 criminals and at least 25 clearly have a pacemaker bulging out of their skin. Time to even the odds! BAM! Batman whips out his latest Batgadget - a specialised EMP device that specifically neutralises cardiac pacmakers - he was spot on, 25 guys hit the ground like meat sacks. He throws a few fists and adds 15 more shitheads to the 30bpm club, all needing PPM. It's actually kinda genius because Batman knows that the Joker, Penguin, Two Face or whichever supervillain is hiring, isn't going to take details about pre-existing medical conditions before taking them on, so none of them can figure out the connection that allows Batman to be able to immediately eliminate steadily rising proportions of thugs in each stand off. A third-party observer, let's say: The Riddler, probably would discover what Batman is up to but he probably wouldn't give it away because he flies solo in the Arkham series, and doesn't really ally with any of the other supervillains. He might even use it as an opportunity to hire his own non-PPM thugs, develop his own EMP-PPM-disabling devices and take control of Gotham's criminal underworld for himself.
+ThuckBuddies While this is completely and utterly wrong for the reason of why Batman doesn't kill... I can't deny the genius of it. You should make a Batman story from this, I wanna see where it could go.
my personal head canon for why batman does what he does is when like, you were a kid, and you'd wake up from a bad dream but then when you would go back to sleep, you'd try to dream about yourself beating the monster or whatever. maybe that was just me, but I always saw it as batman taking on people like the guy who killed his parents, except this time he can fight back. he's not just some helpless kid anymore, he's the batman.
This deserves a like, you're literally the first channel i know that talks about Batman being a hero and not that he's actually insane, or that he's the real villain because he gets the criminals locked up in low security prisons. Wanna talk evil? how about the judge who lets Joker live on account of insanity? or why does no one ask if other people should just off the creep? because Batman's story should teach you to be better than that.
The philosophy behind Batmans only rule is sound, but it's not practical. Leaving the few to live in order to kill hundreds or thousands of innocent people isn't fair. In order to significantly reduce the amount of killing, the only way to stop these villains is to kill them. Kill the few to save the many. This is why I absolutely love The Punisher, even though he's not in the same universe as Batman, because he takes it upon himself to eliminate the few in order to save the many. That's a true hero in my book. One who choose to sacrifice his own honor in order to preserve the innocent.
minipaganini I am actually more surprised that gotham doesn't create a death penalty against the super criminals. Even more so, i don't understand why anyone would stay in gotham with villains roaming around such as killer croc, clay face, joker and more. I can understand why bats doesn't kill them but the city should.
Batman's philosophy is very practical. Why do you think we have correctional facilities and prisons? It's all built upon the same ideology as Batman's. Batman sees criminals to be just as human as any other person. That's why we don't just execute people on the spot anymore. The death penalty is nothing but a vent for those seeking vengeance or satisfaction. So easily, we can lose our humanity and long to see judgement fall upon those who hurt the people we love.
VejyMonsta If what you said was true, then all of the villains of Gotham would've been rehabilitated. Your argument is incorrect. Tooth for a tooth bro.
So you think we should execute criminals? And that Batman should execute them as well? Thus creating an endless cycle of hatred, conflict and therefore more crime. Why would you choose to take a life to save thousands, when there is the option to save that life and the thousands? Batman understands the mind of the criminally insane and he knows that he can save them. Unfortunately the mindset of most people is not that of Batman's. Nobody wants to listen to someone who murdered innocent people. Because that is considered by society to be an unforgivable act. You become less than human. And that is morally wrong.
Batman doesn't kill because he obviously have read Weber and Montesquieu. Only the state can commint legitimate violence and can take your life (like physically in prison). He knows very well that he is not the state. He doesn't like them very much, but he understands the importance of isntitutions. He is a real capitalist and I love it.
yes that's why he (*Batman*) does not spends his capital to capture, rehabilitate or protect people and try to understand how they became the way they have become, because he is so poor...
Treesicle Hi. ... Since you seem to also branch off beyond only video games as long as there is a link to video games. Could you do a "Red vs Blue": The Story You Never Knew?
sancturillore Definitely not the first time fans have wanted us to work with RvB characters. I think its a really great idea, but we're really going to have to do some research for that one. I mean there's over ten seasons of the show. I think we'll do it eventually, but its going to take some time for us to get there!
Treesicle Well, while there are 13 seasons(we're at episode 9 of season 13 currently)... most of the episodes are very short... for example... for the first half of the entire series... most episodes were about 5 minutes long each... with some being even shorter... while some were also exceptions in being longer... Basically... in total... watching the entirety of Red vs Blue takes less time than playing most of the games series you've made videos about.
man.. congratulations.. this video was awesome.. truly deep into the mind of baan and with ideas well sopported. Funny at the same time with great edition. Five stars video.
Well this almost 16 Minutes teached me more about moral, good & evil and about that stuff than all the lessons in Ethics back in School. And now I know better why Batman is my one and only favorite Supermotherofgodholyhero!!!!
This still doesn't explain why Batman doesn't just build an satelite prison in outer space to which he can send villains such as Joker to reside in. That way the Joker can never escape and do harm again, and Batman doesn't have to kill him.
He tried rebuilding Arkham to be escape-proofed and tested it as Batman, but I'm pretty sure it got destroyed by Mr. Bloom. Really, the only person who Batman has to worry about is the Joker, since he's able to take down the Justice League with his gas (as retarded as that sounds).
If you work hard enough you could be mind developed just like batman! Imagine being able to stare a barrel down, and not even flinch after you hear the "Click" of the trigger. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” ― Nelson Mandela .Amazing video by the way!
to go along with what you're saying at the end of the video....Batman probably figures....hey I didn't go crazy after seeing my parents murdered before my eyes, so these guys don't have to either. he probably figures with help and deep reflection these demented people could change for the better.
maisha eugene indeed. People like Harley, Freeze, Clayface and Ventriloquist were hurt by the world and he wants to help them. Some were even friends like Two-Face or Hush. He, like his friend Superman, see good in others but he's more cynical. He believes that in the case of common thugs, you got to scare them straight.
Wow.. I finally found the answer I'm seeking. I wonder why all this time I really liked the Batman. Whether was it because of just the fact that he is a human who is peaked and can perform things which require a SUPER-human. But the psychosis of Batman, really shed to light how does he manage to do everything, even if stacked against odds. Thanks Treesicle
Little Goblin there this reason and your reason, so this video isn't very far off so yeah this guy and u are right. there's more reasons to why he don't do what his head tells him.
blaze vigil Yes, I like it. I have also seen Iron Man 2 & 3, Captain America, Thor 1 & 2, X-Men 2 &3, Daredevil, The Incredible Hulk, The Punisher, Fantastic 4 1 & 2, The Amazing Spiderman films, etc. I feel DC will be just fine. Just because very recently in 2-3 years MARVEL has hit gold people are like - "MARVEL is the best" needs to stop. Age Of Ultron was at best a mediocre film and if is that's the direction MARVEL is going then soon their movies will suck as they sucked before blind fanboy.
the old age Batman kills because he has gone through a lot of shit, then during the time when he is killing Superman he suddenly realizes that he is becoming his parent's killer hence he doesn't kill lex. (source: cinemawins)
Many who deserve to live are dead. And many who live deserve death. Do you have the power to raise the dead? Then what right do you have to take life? - Paraphrased from Fellowship of the Ring.
The only one who really "deserves" to die is the Joker, and arguably, he comes around to it in some interpretations. The rest are still sane and can be rehabilitated, which he actually manages to do. The only person to my knowledge that Batman tries to kill in canon is Darkseid in Final Crisis.
Impressive! I was onto the assumption that Batman was dealing with some psychological trauma after his parents death. The fact that he overcame it and fights crime without killing, is amazing.
Ron Fourier Alonzo I love Marvel, but come on... Batman is so much cooler and better, plus the rogues gallery of the DC universe is so much better than that of the marvel universe
My friend (though a fictional character) this is why you are *Batman* your horrifically terrifying compassion and knights resolve, which generations one day may come to see till then wear your cape, hold your shield and venture ever forward into the night.
Just finished off the Arkham games with knight and it is absolute hell what batman goes through And mind you I had my game of knight on easy mode and i died to cloudburst 17 times
So few people understand this about Batman. Thanks for sharing it with the world! Forget Green, Yellow, or even Red... if Batman was a lantern, he'd be Indigo.
good job explaining the things that was thrown in viewers faces through every batman game or movie. I was hoping to here something about an untold story of him linking to someone not he doesn't kill because he doesn't want to
Batman dosen't kill villains for many reasons.
10. Because he's Batman.
._. ......^.^
and because it's to easy and would never come back from it and continue to kill

VejyMonsta who was that meant for?
This is the first treesicle vid I ever watched and I still love it as well as this channel
Batman doesn't kill because he obviously have read Weber and Montesquieu. Only the state can commint legitimate violence and can take your life (like physically in prison). He knows very well that he is not the state. He doesn't like them very much, but he understands the importance of isntitutions. He is a real capitalist and I love it.
yes
yes that's why he (*Batman*) does not spends his capital to capture, rehabilitate or protect people and try to understand how they became the way they have become, because he is so poor...
lol this is great
you guys really deserve more credit and subscribers!!!
dude hell yah, that puts it in perfect perspective. and i lost it when you said but and flashsd the butt haha
That was a really good break down of how mentally sound Batman is. I never looked at it that way...his reasoning against killing.
Makes you think, doesn't it?
I'm going to be honest, that third body bag jump scared me
Guys i'm not Batman, this guy clearly has issues!
+Bruce Wayne No you're not, you're wonder woman
+JUSTIN FERNANDEZ i'm Bruce Wayne.
+Bruce Wayne No.......YOUR BATMAN!
shure
why would a billionair get his hands dirty right?
hey old man
Good research, good conclusion, great touches of humour
Do Treesicle: The Story You Never Knew

Very interesting and well done. Also, that end killed me! XD
I don't remember that Arkham city mission at all XD and I completely beat the game
It's a side quest
omgs lol.
this channel deserves way more subs
ok-ok!! I subscribed!! ( please don't kill me )
9:06 "Unfased, he proceeds to battle rabbit dudes on a clock hurling to the 5th dimension or something." (that made me laugh the most) xD
Treesicle take your time. You haven't disappointed me yet with your videos. I and hopefully other loyal fans patiently await.
Treesicle Well, while there are 13 seasons(we're at episode 9 of season 13 currently)... most of the episodes are very short... for example... for the first half of the entire series... most episodes were about 5 minutes long each... with some being even shorter... while some were also exceptions in being longer...
Basically... in total... watching the entirety of Red vs Blue takes less time than playing most of the games series you've made videos about.
sancturillore well he didn't say no
I will wait as long as it takes.
man.. congratulations.. this video was awesome.. truly deep into the mind of baan and with ideas well sopported. Funny at the same time with great edition. Five stars video.
ComBAT! ANYONE?!!
Ok then bye.
Hilarious AND philosophical... Great video!
This video is really well made
It remind
Ah yes, it remind...
+Christop The illusive Man xD
Bloom. Really, the only person who Batman has to worry about is the Joker, since he's able to take down the Justice League with his gas (as retarded as that sounds).
injustice 2 story mode. watch on youtube.
If you work hard enough you could be mind developed just like batman! Imagine being able to stare a barrel down, and not even flinch after you hear the "Click" of the trigger. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
― Nelson Mandela
.Amazing video by the way!
Can you do Max Payne the story you never knew?
12:25 I Started Crying With Tears Of Joy .
Joe Chill Got "No Chill" He? he? He? Ill escort myself out/....
Oh man that was so awesome!!! Great video !
to go along with what you're saying at the end of the video....Batman probably figures....hey I didn't go crazy after seeing my parents murdered before my eyes, so these guys don't have to either. he probably figures with help and deep reflection these demented people could change for the better.
The man dresses up as a bat to go fight crime illegally every night and has a batarang and your saying he's not crazy
+Prodigal Son wellll......not their kind of crazy anyway!
+Prodigal Son There's no such thing as crazy
maisha eugene indeed. People like Harley, Freeze, Clayface and Ventriloquist were hurt by the world and he wants to help them. Some were even friends like Two-Face or Hush. He, like his friend Superman, see good in others but he's more cynical. He believes that in the case of common thugs, you got to scare them straight.
A lot of these people were treated a lot worse then Batman. Like Poor Riddler for example.
So THAT'S why Batman doesn't kill
+Snot Nose -- I think he actually said that a couple of times in the video, just slightly different... Not quite as much emphasis.
Little Goblin there this reason and your reason, so this video isn't very far off so yeah this guy and u are right. there's more reasons to why he don't do what his head tells him.
What a great episode! Good job people, I'm subbing for sure
I think everyone knows about batman.
Roxas theNobody
Nope, son was born yesterday, he's wearing a marvel t-shirt now...
The Grunt Crusader I feel sorry for your son. Getting his head filled with corny jokes and long CGI action sequences...
Ritabrata Majumder Sucka, have you seen man of steel
blaze vigil Yes, I like it.
Ritabrata Majumder You think Im a Marvel fanboy? I dont fallow comics. But its obvious your biased towards marvel
This...was way better than I thought it was going to be. Me gusta. Well done.
No offense but i don't like the way you pronounced vigilante
That was such an awesome story!!! Thanks dude!!!
FãrǾùK Etérnãl GǾd² Big Bowss TheManWhoHasEverything portucito7
This is why Batman doesn't kill people!
THIS WAS GREAT! I've been obsessed with batman ever since playing arkham city!
After all this he kills in batman v superman and if you say that's a spoiler its in the trailer
the old age Batman kills because he has gone through a lot of shit, then during the time when he is killing Superman he suddenly realizes that he is becoming his parent's killer hence he doesn't kill lex. (source: cinemawins)
or I just don't give a fuck that doctor Manhattan made me do it because I'm gonna kick his ass
Mindblowing! It really open my eyes for this perspectiv
that's what I dislike about batman. He doesn't kill those who deserve death 😒😒
Many who deserve to live are dead. And many who live deserve death. Do you have the power to raise the dead? Then what right do you have to take life? - Paraphrased from Fellowship of the Ring.
+Celine StClair No
***** I thought I did. My bad. I shall edit.
And then came along Ben Affleck
Wow this is realy philosophical and interesting! Awesome video!!!
2:16 I GOT A STORY! It is simple if he kills he is no better than the villains he puts away! YEAH BITCH STORIES OH!
Dude you're a genius this is the bassic plot of Arkhamkight
In BvS he kills! BvS sucked! Like if you agree!!
it doesn't suck but that sucks that batman kills
he had lost his mind at the time... which is what this video suggest
cjae some people just dont understand
Choose ur words bro. It didn't suck.... The movie was pure shit
Mohamed Chibani hahaha. My bad. you're right!
That was all way, way more deep than I expected and very well researched, thought out and presented. Good Job.
Marvel Is Better *grabs popcorn*
Ron Fourier Alonzo "It's not very effective."
This was posted 3 days ago and there's only 2 replies so better luck next time
Ron Fourier Alonzo What's Marvel?
Ron Fourier Alonzo I love Marvel, but come on... Batman is so much cooler and better, plus the rogues gallery of the DC universe is so much better than that of the marvel universe
Punisher 4 the win... "Can I grab some of the popcorn?" +Ron Fourier Alonzo
I wish I could shake the hand of the man who made this video. Your intellect must be unfathomable
You've opened my eyes to the Batman with this video and have earned.... ANOTHER SHRUBBERY!!
I mean subscriber
Very well stated. I had only figured out about half of that. Thanks!
That was awesome, best point for not killing I've ever heard
you sound like my English teacher when she's trying to tell us what the author meant by saying "my fence was wood instead of metal"
amazing work man, great video, comedy and mind power! kinda like batman.
My friend (though a fictional character) this is why you are *Batman* your horrifically terrifying compassion and knights resolve, which generations one day may come to see till then wear your cape, hold your shield and venture ever forward into the night.
Just finished off the Arkham games with knight and it is absolute hell what batman goes through
And mind you
I had my game of knight on easy mode and i died to cloudburst 17 times
So few people understand this about Batman. Thanks for sharing it with the world!
Forget Green, Yellow, or even Red... if Batman was a lantern, he'd be Indigo.
good job I guess telling
something that was thrown in our face from every batman thing or movie
I don't understand how so many people can know Batman and not understand this about his character.
good job man this is the best thing ever!
This made me respect Batman more than I ever have as a comic hero.
If this video came out after Arkham Knight it would have gone even deeper to Batman's mentality. Either way amazing video.
good job explaining the things that was thrown in viewers faces through every batman game or movie. I was hoping to here something about an untold story of him linking to someone not he doesn't kill because he doesn't want to
this helped me understand evrrything with batman and myself in a way
