Shin Megami Tensei 4 NOTHING ENDING
First time playing through SMT4 series.
This game has been recommended to me multiple times.
I've decided to exclude the additional choices from the main story and just keep it full top screen (Beside in Boss fights). Every option I choose are CHAOS answers.
Pre-ordered a 3ds built in capture card a while ago 2016 (February) from Keity, but it takes around 5 months for them to make/ship it (I received it July 8th). Originally I had a 3ds XL just for this game, but the screen on a handheld device was just way too annoying to play on, and I'm not a fan of that but now I can play 3ds games on a monitor/tv with a lot bigger screen and it's a lot better now.

I thought it was funny when Jonathan says to Walter, “I feel it may be bad luck for you to press it. Let’s give it to Flynn.” Then Flynn ends up destroying the world.

ngl, burroughs voice actor did an excellent job in this ending, example, the way she says "the target has NO DEFENCES at all"
Also, she truly shows fear on her tone.
Like, Burroughs knowing this is a bad Idea, but being with you because thats her pourpose, so she stays silent, because she does not have a position to argue
To make an AI to fear death, that's disturbing
Yknow I used to hate this ending, but come to think of it knowing everything Flynn's gone through its understandable that he might just break down like this, it's the ending where the hero decides he's just wants the battle to end
He has the right to decide that for himself, but not for anyone other than that and certainly not for *everyone*. Imo this is the morally hardest to justify ending of any smt to date.
@@matthewkozlov928 he was literally sent as the savior, and deleting everything so nothing exists. no suffering, no agony, no arguments, no fighting, no corruption, no humans = no EVIL, and no demons = no CHAOS, no angels = no ORDER, therefore having nothing is better than everything combined! no wars, no fights, no tyranny, no dictators, no humans! = true peace!
he couldn't have chosen better. and this "everyone" can go back to hell. Flynn is the chosen one, and his choice is all what matters. if not for this ending, i wouldn't play the game. order ending is tyrannic, and chaos ending, is just crazy, neutral ending is straight out evil and demonic! humans are NOT the highest priority, never were and never will be.
therefore, simply put stopping everyone's suffering, and stopping the demons at the same time, and destroying all the human-made sins.. means deleting everything.. let's face it.. the only true path of eternal peace, IS if nothing exists at all. thus.. this choice is justified. and nobody has the right to criticize it. also just in case you wish to "bother" with a needless "rebuttal" i'm saving your energy.. blocked. good bye.
Yeah, this is Nihilist neutral, like, he is like on the Neutral path, but gave up once he got to the idea that he as a human was unable to help, so he took the offer...
I can understand it, but the fact that he did not feared death in that point disturbs me, I would never choose that because I truly fear the death of others, and a personal permadeath, tbh, I would never do this ending unless I cant do neutral, because I truly hate the other 2 endings and this is less sick, tbh

I mean, I would If I were an AI, but because her sole purpose is to give asistance she did not have a position to argue, and well...
She says "Your objective" on the other 3 paths someone else asks you to help, in this one you are given a direct choice, so this time its not a quest, is your path
She's a neutral being, so pretty much she would be disappointed to see you turning everything into nothing just as an easy exit to the situation.
And thus Flynn successfully divided all of existence by 0

to be fair its not like they has any other choice, Tokyo was pretty much a wasteland with no real way to generate energy
Really late reply, but if you play Apocalypse you find out that nobody has any real idea what the reactor truly is except for the White themselves, because they were the ones who created it. Kind of ironic that their ultimate plan is to destroy the thing they made, but you can definitely see the religious overtones.
Well, we human has been using nuclear reactor irl as well, even blown up once in russia yet we still using it

Those three words will haunt me forever. Sure, Flynn freed the world from the constant battle between YHVH and Lucifer, but only because he destroyed everything. Regardless of what ending you get, the war between Law and Chaos will start up again, sure. But to reduce the world to nonexistence? That will haunt me to my very core.
I feel you, man. Damn near gave me an existential crisis when I first got this ending.

even with how utterly bleak as this ending is i find it fascinating. certainly not a good first ending to get but when you realise how hopeless the future is following each of the other endings, its a real damn impactful one, probably the only one where humanity dictates its own fate. goated game
The Yamato reactor has no defenses at all, but... It does give you radiation poisoning.

This ending makes me think very deeply.
Like, a world without suffering even if it means not existing is still better than to live under constant suffering.
But by not existing you can't experience joy or pleasure as well.
It would be the ultimate stagnation.
I guess it really depends on how you feel at the moment and what is your perspective for the future.
During some heavy pain crisis I had caused by health problems I wished to die so it could all end, and it was when I reflected about this thing.
Which is better?
To end it all but not experiencing either bad or good things at all.
Or to endure the pain but find joy and pleasure here and there once in a while?
Hard decision to take considering when experiencing imense pain you can't think too clearly because all you want is for the pain to stop.
Look at us humans, we all die, to birth is to condemn to death, it is a selfish desire, that sometimes…many times with people with deathly conditions pass on fully conscious as its their selfish desire to experience at the cost of others, we have still wars, children being tortured and used for unspeakable stuff, adults too, religion has sparked wars, nationalities, money too…I would choose this to destroy humanity so we cant birth, conspire, use, torture, anymore, the only way to rid us of evil, because to continue is to condemn people to a cicle with no end, where the only constant is death and suffering, and even if you disagree, whats with the slave workers on poor contries and children? You would continue this, so you can live the way you want? Condemn people endlessly for slivers of enjoyment?

First time I got this ending was in my first run. I had taken a bit of a break from the game and continued to pick up from where I left off at. I wasn't really paying attention to the questions and I somehow came to this conclusion. I had to put the game down for a while again.

That should be the idea. You rebel against god's plan, but refuse to side with Lucifer. So you return all to nothing, rather than let mankind to be slaves of order or pawns of chaos.
And it's not really God. In this game it's based on hebrew "YHVH".

i chose the white ending because it is literally the best option for the law/chaos cycle. (and because i couldn't handle the difficulty, but in insight, it was mostly out of my perspective of tokyo's situation)

Considering SMT IV Apocalypse comes after the canonical ending of SMT IV's neutral ending, and they have the peace ending there, Neutral is technically the best end you can get because it leads to SMT IV's good ending.
You did It by choice, I did it because I were stuck on Law for being polite without chances to do Neutral

Idk, it's just a worse version of the TDE in Nocturne. In TDE there's at least the hope of a new universe after Lucifer kills YHVH, but here you're just erasing everything just because you can't stand the endless cycle of Law/Chaos. I can list multiple endings that all end the cycle forever that are better than this. The Musubi and Shijima endings in Nocturne, while both flawed in their own rights, still break the cycle. The New Law and New Chaos endings of Strange Journey Redux not only end the cycle, but are arguably the best endings in the series.

Who cares if it’s the best outcome or not when it’s decently written, or rather it ends earlier which means you miss the bad parts. Because IV easily peaked at the Reverse Hills and Blasted/Infernal Tokyo segments then it went crashing downhill in quality.
For example Neutral is the worst outcome in SMT1, but it’s the best narratively.
Back to your Avengers comparison, the suggestion to leave after Thanos snaps would make sense if the rest of the movie did suck. It’s like stopping Attack on Titan after the basement reveal, everything after is hot garbage so it’s better to leave it unfinished than have it ruined. Though the white ending is a complete ending so it’s even better.

Kinda meant to be. It may be a realistic ending (Flynn breaking down and deciding to end the conflict the only way he knows how), but it's meant to be terrible, depressing, and all around just plain bad.
