Best Way To Turn BLACK Into ANY COLOR in Photoshop [Including White!]

- Learn a unique, easy-to-use, and powerful method to black into any color that you want (including white!) in Photoshop.
The challenge with changing black into any other colors is that you need a lot of control over the brightness and contrast.
Most techniques use a single Hue and Saturation Adjustment Layer to create the color swap, which can get you good results with dark colors. But if you want to make black into a light color,
then you will wash out the image when you adjust the brightness.
In this tutorial, I am going to show you how you can use
two layers, one that controls Hue and saturation, and another that controls brightness and contrast to turn black into any color in Photoshop, including white!
I think that this method gives you the most control,
and most importantly the best results!

Brilliant Video. You are awesome man.
GREAT Tutorial! I have a question though...when I selected my BLACK area... it didn't select all the way to the edge..so when I changed the color, I still have a black border on the outer edges... how can I get rid of that? Does that happen in the masking & selecting of the area? or....?
Excellent! The best tutorial I've ever watched today, this is very helpful! Thank you so much.

That was very helpfull.
Now i have another question.
How can I change the color of for example the darkest color in the picture ?
Is it possible to use this with your concept in the video or is there a different path to go?
Fantastic
These tutorials make me so angry I want to throw my PC out the window. I can follow every step EXACTLY and something doesn't do what it does for him, then you're screwed for the rest of the tutorial.
Haha I had that too when I was noob on Photoshop, just redo or understand why he's doing like that. Just keep it up and you won't ever do it wrong
@@armandguillen6149 Yeah, I was a little upset at that moment. lol I'm learning though.

ok but how i transform withe in black
I see a lot of people using a adjustment layer to change a color and that is very bad, this method is better you can see color running to the dark bits. Anyhow I still think changing channels with channelmixer is the way to do it and if you cannot reach the color by that calculate the channels you think you need to get it in the ballpark with a selective color on top to pinpoint the right color. In this way understanding color how it works will get to your brain and that's the problem these days with photographers
That method works as well! Thanks for sharing. Also, using a gradient map would work. As long as you can control brightness and contrast separately you should get good results.
thank you so much
Useful info but I wish you weren't staring straight into my soul
WITCHCRAFT!!!
👍🙂
This reminds me of those 10k word essays you wrote with 200 words and went back and stretched it waaaaaaay out to hit that 10 minute mark
This was just so helpful. My clients love asking me to change colors of things...and now I won't pull my hair out!
Bro I don't explain in this video because my language is Urdu From Pakistan.
But watch in like this.
woahhhh - magic. THANK YOU. I've had this problem so often.
You're welcome, David!
Thank you! I've been using Photoshop for over 30 years, and have never seen the sliders in the Levels palette explains so succinctly.
You're welcome, Keith! I'm glad the explanation was helpful!
Photoshop pillow should be first :(
Like on the other side?

This is very cool. Now I only need to buy 1 shirt, and I'll be able to have them all in different colors, lol. Saves me a lot of $$$ 😂. Thanks teach!

You're welcome, Ashok!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I've been struggling to change darker color to brighter color especially white 😭 and you explained how to use level adjustment layer perfectly that it's understood easily 😭
With me, I just needed to select the right layer... Hope this helps someone and quickens the process 🙈
👍🙂
Cool thing. Is working fine, but do you also have an advice how to change restshadows? The problem is that the blue then mixes with the shade of the other shirt or with the skin tone of the other person at the edge, i.e. in the shadow area. How can I adjust the shadow?
Genius! Just happened to be working on a mockup when this popped up and it proved VERY USEFUL!
Thank you, Cisko!
Thank u final ma problem get solved
Your are awesome

Thank you, Sean!
very good sir, you solved my puzzle for many months as to why black color can't be changed ! Thank you so much indeed!
this one was mindblown! you are the ultimate photoshop wizzard
Thank you, Lucas!
Hi, I just watched your tutorial and it really helps! But when I change the blending from normal to color, the selected area turned back to black and I can't change the hue. If you happen to stumble on this comment, could you perhaps leave some suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks a lot! God bless!
This (along with 45 seconds from the middle of the Selection/Masking video) was EXACTLY what I needed to kludge together some new product pics while we're waiting for the actual photography to get done. Bit of a dive in the deep end for me but I got there with your help, thank you so much!
Boy, this seems complicated for just turning black into another color. WTH, isn't there a simpler, one or two click route?
Excellent tutorial, Jesus. The technique was new to me and what a time saver! Thank you!!
You're welcome, Mark!
This isthe most amazing photoshop channel
Thank you, Pyro!
thank you ! saved my day at work
Neat. Been having this problem for 25 years, you solved it in 5 minutes... You rock
25 years lolz
Thanks
You're welcome, Snow Wold!
thank you so much! I use a different software (krita) but the concept is the same. This technique is just what I was looking for! I'm changing the color of some of my cabinets because I want to re-paint them. IT'S SUPER FUN
I liked the simplicity of the execution. Thank you. Curious to know how you would apply this to white? Be a cool follow up for this tuts when you have your next 90 min trick :). Much appreciated my friend, gracias!!
You're welcome, sal! And it would be the same way as black to white with this method. No difference!
Wonderful! 👏This double-layer technique sure was (I'm sorry to admit) new to me - thanks a million JR!
You're welcome, R Garlin!
All of which illustrates what a complete abortion of a package is Photoshop! I mean to say, how on earth did they end up with such ridiculously obfuscated and elaborate protocols to achieve the simplest effects. Now some smart Alec is already thinking of answering (it's a statement, not a question) but there is no sensible justification for this. What there is however, is a niche in the market for a non-professional user-friendly system.
Nice - but what if you have a dark subject and the subject contains blacks, that you want to keep? For example a dark-blue shirt with black stitches? If you adjust the levels to brighten the shirt, the stitches will also be affected. Or?
That gesture she's making Is very rude in italian 😂😂😂
Very Simple and so easy, thank you Jesus
You're welcome, Nissan!
I watched 3 other videos on changing Black to any colour. They were all - do this, then do this, then do this. The result for their particular example image was not bad but not great either. Your video also said to do this and then do that but, the difference was that you explained why to do it and what how we can have control over most any image. What a difference that made !! Thanks Jesus.
Jesus! You are the man-no one on RUclips does tutorials that both get you results while still thoroughly explaining the concepts, techniques and theory behind them. Keep up the incredible and incredibly accessible work, thank you
Thank you, Jon!
@@PhotoshopTrainingChannel what if I want to change it to a specific color? Using hex codes
Good tutorial. However, I can't export with a transparent background after doing this. Please help
I was trying to change the colour of my leather jacket & I did it as per your guidance but I don't want to be modified in that metal buttons & zips. Will your guide me, please.
i can't get this to work. I have a mask but it only shows up on the outside of the subject. the solid color just makes everything gray-scale. for whatever reason, my mask is not like yours and I cannot get it to behave properly.
Yes - it was new to me - Thanks so much.
You're welcome, wmutoob!
