Great diagnostic walk through. I have a 2006 Matrix 4WD with 226,000 miles. No electrical problems so far (OK, the horn wire broke but it was my fault).
Great tips.. My nephew put a new battery and starter in only to find out the head gasket caused a hydro-lock. Also on these Matrix it takes 4 minutes to pull the rad fan.
@josephbatta1730 Ah that's not good! I had that bite me on a Mercedes ML350 diesel. The thing was only 3 years old with 50,000km on it so I didn't think to test the engine but it was seized solid from not having an oil change in a couple years... I now put a wrench on every single engine before putting a starter in. No matter how new it is!
I had the same issue with a 2003 Matrix with just over 240k miles. By far, the easiest way to access the relay is to remove the silver cover from the dash that holds the left-most vent and interior dimmer. Remove that and it’s quite easy to remove/reinstall the relay with no tools. A rod-type stethoscope can tell you if the relay “pics” when turning the ignition.
Not on a 2003-2008 Corolla. Just saying. My problem was the Ignition Switch but I wanted to replace the starter replay because I own the vehicle and it's 20 years old! I had to crawl under there with my head where the pedals are and reach up with one hand only and R&I that same Purple Starter Relay. Took me 2 tries in 109 degree heat and I'm not a young man anymore!
Hey, ive got an 04 corolla auto. It just doesnt wwnt tk start all of a sudden. I put in a new starter and then jumped the signal wire, it cranks but didnt start. I narrowed it down to the neutral safety switch but cant seem to find how to jump it. Any advice ?
Having issue with my 05 matrix automatic starts but no lights won't go into gear. Sometimes we'll drive then lights go crazy turn off and no heater headlight turn signals. I have a compustar auto start and it won't unlock my doors will crank several times but won't start.
I have had problems with my toyota matrix.. I changed out the battery it ran for 1 day, changed out starter ran for 2/3 days. I changed several fuses and relays in fuz box under hood., ran for a day or 2, i changed out the starter relay ran for 2/3 days I check the ignition switch its not that and also changed the clutch safty switch and it's not that either... and after I change something out it works for a day or 2 then does it does the no start no crank again.. Any other ideas what it might be causing it.
@dougz31 mine does not pop fuses.... everything comes out that it works havent figured it out yet.... but I created a bypass... bypassing everything from the key to the starter using/installing a remote starter switch.. that invention fixed my problem😂😂...
On mine the battery gets drained sometimes but it starts with a jumper from the connector at the transmission and the wire at the started. My brother in law said he thinks it’s a short somewhere
was able to bump start mine today, exact same car and model, trans. etc.. but same thing no craneo but i my dash and everything lights up. any thoughts anyone?
Whereare. You. So i can take my toyata 2094 metrx. I put new. Battietes. 2 month ago. And. Niv. 10 2024. It did not ture on. ,,my friend booted battier. For more them 2 year ,,and the check light turn on.. and off ,, for 2 year. ... and. Now this. Can you help. Me.. i like to take. Ir to you .. 😊
@claytonahr2844 Does the starter work? If you manually power it at the solenoid terminal like at: ruclips.net/video/PyHlHtGiD-w/видео.htmlsi=EZzql_h2xmYPGbuH&t=177 Again, make sure you're in neutral with the parking brake engaged if you're a standard! Likewise it's pretty common for clutch pedal switches to go faulty. You could try bypassing it like at: ruclips.net/video/PyHlHtGiD-w/видео.htmlsi=ODEMqrOunumIwNDi&t=760 Otherwise you could check to see if the engine computer is recognizing you're trying to start the vehicle. In the main fuse box under the hood there's a: - 20amp EFI fuse - hot all the time - EFI relay - turned on by ECM - 15amp EFI2 fuse - powered by EFI relay Sorry, I don't have this in my video but should be easy enough to spot. So I would get someone to hold the key in the start position (while clutch pedal is fully pushed) and check to see if you have power at the 15amp EFI2 fuse. It'll only have power if the ECM turns on the EFI relay. So if there is power there then you know the ECM knows you're trying to start the car and is also trying to start the car. If you don't have power at the fuse then you're looking at something like a power supply issue (fuse, relay, wiring, etc), ignition switch issue, security issue or ECM related issue. At this point you wouldn't have to worry about starter or anything like that. If you DO have power at that fuse then you know the ECM is trying to start the car and you have to worry about starter relay or bad starter or something like that.
great video .. might not see much .. but i got the aligator clip "in there might not see much but" most useless crap video ... the reason for a "how to " is to show exactly the procedure .. .. this video sucks

What was the reason it hydro locked?

Thank you for excellent relay Explanation. Looking forward fir many to come. Congrats.
terrific! excellent, clear, concise diagnosis and explanation. thank you sooo much!
Thank you for excellent video and detailed description!
Pop that left A/C panel (above fuse access) off with a flathead and you can reach that relay easier.
@g.davidlawrence8471 No way! I totally didn't think of that. Definitely would have made that much easier... haha
Hey good tip thanks, I am about to do that on my car😮

Helped me out when it was stranded had the same thing happen Thanks!
Thank you for video.
I’ll let you know if it’s my relay
so..was the relay?

Adjust cable length
Put your thumb in left A.C. outlet and pull that little (panel out } then easy to reach relay!!!
Flathead screwdriver works well.

Thank you very helpful.
@user-yh2kn1hq4t Glad it was helpful!
Good job 👍

Park neutral safety switch???

@@martindavila2232same here. But I finally got some codes and I'm going to change the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor as well
me sirvió de mucho, Gracias
You could have gotten to the purple relay from prying AC outlet on the left
would have given you a top view
The new starter could be bad that's what happened to mine I put a new starter in and it only lasted a few months
Under dash of the steering a red wire need to cut .....it's for the alarm system cause vehicle not to start...
I think that might be my issue
My car keeps cranking once I put the battery terminals. Changed the starter, checked fuses and still does the same thing. Any ideas ?
was able to bump start mine today, exact same car and model, trans. etc.. but same thing no craneo but i my dash and everything lights up. any thoughts anyone?
I'm not home right know I at Napa buy one part the the Mecanico told me to change
No esta en español el vídeo 😊

@claytonahr2844 When you go to start yours does the engine turn over and it just doesn't fire? Or nothing at all?
@@eurbanautotech just dash response bells whistles.. No crank no nothing
