Thank you for this video. I know they are starting to make tents that set up rain fly first, but your video encourages people to use the tent they have. Thank you.
Wow. 100% brilliant! I don’t have access to a 3D printer or laser cutter, so I just created my own “tent pole holder things” using some old plastic and a drill. Instead of the webbing straps, I used some thin nylon string. It doesn’t look as fancy or professionally polished as your setup, but seems to work... at least in my backyard in the sunshine. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic idea.
Looks great. Gotta create the straps to hold my tent's poles. Watched another video where the tent, fly, and groundsheet are packed together, and you lay it out, and slide the poles under the fly, and then stand the poles up. I will definitely try this too if I can create the straps to hold the pole. Don't know which method I'll go with. Thanks for the video
Great video. Thanks! My solution was to set up a tarp to sit under then have my wife go set up the tent. Doesn't work very well cause she won't go backpacking with me any more.
Thank you for this great tip. I have used some janky ways to try to keep my tent dry while setting up in the rain but this is by far the simplest and most effective. I watched your video on how to make one yourself and quickly made one using old para-cord and washers for my Nemo Hornet 2P. Works like a charm. Thanks again
That is fantastic! The first one I made was using some string and washers too but then it got tangled up really easily so I experimented till I had this system.
@@TheZakkmylde in the UK, spring washers are thicker, have a cut in them and are slightly twisted to form the spring. If you press out the twist, you get a flat washer but its thicker than a normal washer.
Thanks for the great idea - I made this for my Nemo Hornet 2 by cutting circles out of kitty litter pail and drilling circles for my tent poles and for paracord - weighs 1.25 oz and works great!
Awesome idea. I will try yo to the loops with some line and use a already setup tent as measurement. Thank you for the idea. New to camping, so im researching b4 for i go this weekend. ✌🏼🦁
The idea with the strap is great! But why did you make the strap go around the whole extent of the tent? According to my calculations that makes about 5.8m of strap for a single person Hubba. If you make a cross of two diagonals connected to each other in the middle of the tent you can save about 1.25m of strap. And I doubt that one would feel the little bump this might produce.
The bottom of the tent is water proof,i just use a cloth to dry the footprint if needed, its still a very good idea, easy to make out of para cord too i guess if needed.
Brilliant idea! The original grey footprint with the loops isn't available any more, just a "universal" red footprint without loops. Can't believe that a company reduces the possibilities of their good product without the need to do so. Thus your smart idea becomes even more important.
This was a great video! Taught me a lot both about my new tent, and how to do the rain thing -- I remember one time literally bailing out a tent, and this will be... better. :-) Also really enjoyed the light/funny moments. Rock on!
Very cool method with that strap system! I actually just made a video about setting up a tent in the rain. I use different methods, but gave you a shout out in my video because I thought you had such a neat approach. Keep doing cool stuff!
Hi there, thanks for the shout out...love your videos and channel too! Always great to connect with people with a passion for the outdoors! Keep up the great work and reaching out :)
@Project Outbound That strap your using to fix the tent poles in/to, anyway that'sstill available anywhere? Or, did you make it yourself?? Thank in advance for your response!
Great idea , but with that particular tent, isn`t it posssible to , lay the poles on the ground , then spread the rainfly over , and then conect the poles to the rainfly grommets ?? That way you have the rain fly up and then from the inside attach the footprint and so on . I don`t own a tent like that to try it myself , but seems to be doable . Is it ?
Yes, it is possible. I have this tent and once you complete the poles with the rainfly it can "pop up" and allow you to set up the tent underneath. I think these straps add a level of convenience though to get the structure up first then a bit easier to work with the rainfly
What a great video, thanks for sharing. Can I ask where you got the strap from? Is it an MSR product or did you create it yourself? Either way, I need one now haha. Cheers!
Great video! Is MSR waterproofing problem solved? I read the they didn’t have sealed seams and that caused terrible leaks in constant rain... what are your thoughts about this? Thanks!
I made it myself. What tent have you got? I am about to put up the video of how I made it shortly. Subscribe and turn on notification so that you don't miss it 😜
One thing many people never do when they first buy a tent is practice setting it up. And you SHOULD practice doing it at night when it's raining with nothing but a headlamp. I am serious.
Totally irrelevant for my tent. The poles thread through the inner. I don't have piles of money to spend on your make of tent, you should change the title to "how to for wealthy people". Thank you.
I built something similar. For placing the poles I used a couple of caps of PET bottles in which I drilled holes for the strings that I used.
That's awesome. Please share photos!
This is a million dollar idea
If only :) thanks for your support
I agree. Gt idea

Great video! Thank you. The strapping idea is pretty clever.
Absolutely fantastic. I will make this frame with light guylines with 4 knots at corners. Great !
That would work!
Instead of knots/loops, use 8mm spring washers (closed up) in the corners - the pole ends fit great.
@@JockyT1 closed up? Not sure as in Canada of spring washers are same where you are. Just a regular washer but looks slightly bend or warped?

Hi Leo, Yes, a line with loops (Alpine butterfly) works as well but it does get tangle up easily so pack it well :) Have a great trip and stay dry!

Great video! Thank you!
Get a tent that sets up outer first, or inner and outer together, simple.
This is a little known trick w/ the ground cloth. Guess I'm not worried about getting the footprint wet.. Freestanding dome tents are number one!
Great idea!!👏🏻👏🏻 I will try it! Thank you👋🏻
Outstanding video!
Awesome! Thanks!
Great vid..
Thank you for this!!
This is amazing. Okay so where do I get these straps?
I have just replied. Please email me at letsgo@projectoutbound.com.au and I can help you with it.
If you don’t have this ribbon can this method still work using foot print
Yes you can use the footprint, but the footprint will be wet so up to whether you mind it being wet.
My god, it looks so obvious now that I see it lol. Great job.
The upper cross piece must be above the ridge pole, not below it
Hoping I don't seem dense but the inner had a groundsheet on the bottom so why does it matter if the footprint gets wet?
@Project Outbound
That strap your using to fix the tent poles in/to, anyway that'sstill available anywhere? Or, did you make it yourself??
Thank in advance for your response!
I can see that taking off in a strong wind 😂. I put 2 pegs in mine (Vango scarfell 200). Then the 2 poles in and put inner on.
And now in the combination with wind. :)
Can you show us with the Hubba 1 person tent too? It on has one entrance.
Where do I get this strap system??!!
brilliant!
