    Packing up or setting up in the rain sucks. There’s no way around that. The only thing you missed about packing up in a one man tent while it’s raining is that it helps to already be a yoga instructor. 😂🤣🦑

    I'm not a ground dweller but I think tent campers could benefit from carrying a tarp just like hammock campers do. Especially in the rain, wind, snow etc... Yes I know it would be an added pound or so but totally worth it. And you could even use the tarp in the trekking pole configuration as a large vestibule for sitting, cooking or packing up your gear in the rain👍 From a hammock guy thinking outside the "box" 😂

      @@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING I have a multi-use item that I've used many times called the Foxelli poncho/rain fly that can be folded out and used as a ground sheet for your tent or hammock, can be set up in a rain fly configuration, and also used as a rain poncho on the trail, and it weighs about a pound! Can't ever go wrong with multi use! 👍

    Great tips. Some NatureHike tents like the Cloud Up allow you to pack the inner while inside. There's pole attachments on the ground sheet to allow this. I'm a fan of exoskeleton tents. With the Vik 1 and Cloud Peak 2 you can pitch and pack without getting the inside wet.

    I’m starting a 4 day trip next week with rain forecasted for 3 of those days. I pretty much do what you’re doing. My Duplex ends up getting strapped to the top of my pack until 1, the sun comes out so I can set it up and dry it out during a trail break… Or 2, if it rains all the way to my next camp, set it up, dry out the inside and keep on camping! Thanks Crow! Packed up in the rain this morning. Got everything packed up inside my tent. Covered my pack outside with my umbrella. Problem: Had to move the umbrella to pack the fly and poles. Keeping the pack dry when packing the fly and poles seems an impossible task. It got wet and soaked my back under the poncho. I wore the poncho instead of my rain shell for better sweat control. Thoughts?

    • @ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING
      @ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING  Год назад +1

      Hmmm…that is a tough one. What I have done if late is to carry a small tarp, when it isn’t a huge weight penalty, and I know it a going to rain. I put it up next to the tent…basically like having a place to pack everything under it. Might be an option. Sorry you got soaked! That stinks! 😊🙏

  • @mountainsnmoore256
    @mountainsnmoore256 Год назад

    In the past, we have carried a "Community Tarp" to sit under while it rains, so then we would take turns breaking our tents down under the tarp. We would do the same for setting them up in the rain. Of course, now we mostly use hammocks if we can hang. So that simplifies things a good bit.

    How can you keep the body of the tent dry after you take off the rain fly? When it's really coming down, there's no escaping from getting the tent wet, right?

    • @ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING
      @ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING  Год назад +1

      The tent I used for this has a way to unbuckle the inner tent from the rain fly and poles. So, you undo the inner…put it in your back, then take down the rain fly. I just throw the two fly in the net of my big pocket on the outside of my pack. I didn’t explain that too well in this video. Thanks for watching it. Crow✌️
