The Dodge Hellcat - History, Major Flaws, and Why It Got Cancelled (2015-2023)

  • The supercharged Dodge Hellcats were a hit from Day 1 - oozing with power and good looks in a badass package. They have become an icon for the entire Dodge brand, starring in boisterous commercials and plastered across social media. There are millions of Instagram posts, hundreds of rap lyrics about them, and a quick RUclips search shows that just about every car enthusiast around the world wants to get their hands on one. It became the dream car for millions of North American teenagers and young adults like myself, replacing the Viper and original muscle cars from 50 years ago that did the same for past generations.
But, as Geoffrey Chaucer wrote in a poem way back in the 1300s, “all good things must come to an end”. And here we are, at the end of the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Durango Hellcat, as Dodge announced they would no longer be selling them after 2023. In this video, I also go over 7 major flaws and reasons that I felt caused this car to be cancelled. Watch along for a full history of the Hellcat from idea inception in 2011 to its cancellation in 2023!

Chrysler has a long history of being behind Ford and GM when things are changing in the auto world. Chrysler has always had a thing for being a company that wants to be unlike others.
Chrysler was late with responding to the personal luxury market. The Cordoba was introduced at the peek of time before the market began to slowly shrink and cars were downsized a few years later. Chrysler was lacking in the economy car market during the 1970s. There was the Dodge Colt, but it didn't get the attention Ford, GM, Honda, and Toyota got. The Dodge Durango was introduced once the Chevy S10 Blazer, Jeep XJ Cherokee, and Ford Explorer had already been in production.
There's many more vehicles Chrysler's brands have introduced that are late in the segment.

One more thing, the Hellcat's air combat record was 19:1 with 305 pilots becoming Aces. Plus, the Royal Navy flew Hellcat's from the decks of their carriers, under the original british name of Gannet F-1.

I hope everyone in the comments gets to have their dream car one day. I’m never letting mine go, unless some idiot hits me. Nothing beats the feeling of being behind the wheel of a hellcat and banging gears while the blower whines and exhaust screams. It makes even my shitty days better, because i just go for a drive.

I will miss these horsepower beasts so much. The LX Dodges are what a muscle car was like during the golden era. Powerful, spacious, comfortable, fast, fun, loud, straight-line speed, drifting, donuts. They also have the perfect retro exterior designs of a muscle car from the golden era.
I understand how CAFE is costing Dodge too much, even though Dodge has been successful with sales of the Hellcats.
As for flaws, aside from the parts issues on earlier models, the weight of the Charger and Challenger Hellcats is a disappointment.
Prices on all Hellcats should rise quickly by 2030 due to their love and demand by fans and enthusiasts. But we shall see how many will be remaining by 2040. I can just imagine how many will be and already have been totaled.

GM put 1 billion to build a new pushrod V8
Dodge is type of brand that could revive the HEMI later. They discontinued them after 2023 and you can’t even order one due to high demand from customer, so they will make bucks of this situation. The only problem is Stellantis and their EVs illusion

"Dodge feels like they can't catch them with gas engines"
That's a load of bull and they know it. There's dudes at the strip with suped up cars that squash EVs all the time. ICE vehicles still have a ton of untapped potential. On top of that, why try and compete with a car that's not even in the same catagory? Focus on what you do best and continue doing what you do.

I am not a Mopar fan.
Every single person I know with a Chrysler product has had issues. Their minivans, sedans, trucks. Its truely amazing how they still can't build a reliable car after decades of building cars. Some of these issues have been very dangerous like a family friends Town and Country just losing all power on highways. They truely do no care for their customers. But Mopar lovers must be masochists or something. But I guess yall do yall
But a performance muscle minivan would have been the coolest thing in the history of the automotive world.
