Ditto Ted Black, I used to put this CD in my car stereo, and it would stay there for weeks. I can still hear my little brother, getting in my car to go for a ride and just shoot the shit for a while, and immediately going, damn bro, do you ever take this CD out? I'd just laugh, & say, why? I like it. Enough said😏 It's my personal choice, for best all round album EVER. Still, is too. It was my little brother a few years earlier, who'd introduced me to Soundgarden, & Chris. I was more a Metallica guy, but instantly raced down this new rabbit hole, and sorta found a friend I'd never actually meet, in Chris. What do you say about music and the places it takes you, & goes along with ya to? This album has spent so many hours, resonating inside my head I still can't believe my friend, isn't somewhere on this rock, working on another album.....Cheers friends, RIP Chris

I read that Eddie was on this track because Chris was originally going to sing both parts himself. Eddie had just been hired by Wood's former bandmates, forming Pearl Jam, and had just moved to Seattle. He was hanging out at the studio with the only people he knew in a new city, and just kind of...started singing the low parts because Chris was having some trouble with them. Friendship born.

Cornell WAS my favorite grunge artist as well. He is one of my favorite singers of all time. Like I lost my shit when he killed himself and I always loose it again when I hear this song in particular. And btw the one singing everything up to the harmonies in the pre-chorus is Eddie Vedder. Then it’s Cornell doing all the high notes cuz Vedder’s voice is so much more low-set than Cornell’s. Damn I still can’t hear this song without getting far more emotional than I’d like to admit.

Then I went to bed and just woke up right now lol. Yes of course it’s Cornell singing up to the pre-chorus not Vedder. Or no wait, Vedder just re-sings the whole verse if I remember correctly. It’s really strange how different they both sound singing exactly the same notes. Cornell’s voice is...”twangier” is the only word I can come up with. Vedder’s is warmer. But I like Cornell’s better. I mean I loved soundgarden so much that to this day, I used a part of one of their songs in many of my passwords (with other letters and numbers of course lol) and that’s the truth. That was devastating and honestly really pissed me off when Chester did it two weeks later and overshadows Cornell’s death entirely. But I’m torn cuz I liked Chester a LOT too.

Chris said in an interview I saw that he was always trying to scream louder because he wanted to be a big time 'rock singer', but every time he went higher, he found another note that he didn't know he could hit and eventually just realised he could sing these crazy notes if he wanted to.

Beth's comment on "feeling" the note and its resonance is right on the money. When I was a percussionist, I learned that the best way to tune tympani during live performances was to find the point at which the drum head would vibrate at the same frequency as the note I was humming into it. My ear was pretty reliable, but observing the physics of the vibrating drum head got me right on the note every time.

The founding members of a Pearl Jam, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, before starting Pearl Jam was in Mother Love Bone, with Andrew Woods on vocals until his overdose.
They helped Chris Cornell put TOTD together.
Fun fact 2: Eddie Vedder is considered an icon of grudge and Seattle in that era, but Eddie is a Southern California born and raised musician who not moved to Seattle after
auditioning and being asked to join Pearl
    Jam. :)
Fun (useless...lol) fact 3: Andrew Wood was not just friends, but also the roommate of Chris Cornell when he passed.
If you want to hear Andrew Wood, I suggest looking up Mother Love Bone doing stardom champion or if you want to hear something more melodic try Chloe dancer/ crown of thorns. (That is all one title).
    And lastly,
Fun fact 4: the first grunge band (considered to be) that predated mother love bone was Green River, which also featured Gossard and Ament, but also Alex Vincent on drums and Marc Arm on vocals, who would later go on to start the grunge band Mudhoney.
