I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today!

Grunge was never my thing, but I knew instantly that Cornell and Vedder are the best male voices in the entire music industry, masters both.

Director Cameron Crowe's 1992 film "Singles" brings a lot of what the grunge scene was like in Seattle. Including appearances by Cornell and Vedder. It is worth seeing to understand the context in which this style of rock was born.

So Temple of the Dog , was a Chris Cornell solo project that was dedicated to his friend Andrew Wood , who was the lead singer of Mother Love Bone , he had just died and his band was in shambles. Chris put this project together with the member of Mother Love Bone. Did the album and a tour , and this is how Eddie Vedder met Stone Gossard and they formed Pearl Jam out of this very project. This is an incredible album and project. Just thought you might want the back ground on the whole deal! Before this Eddie was not singing!

"this is how Eddie Vedder met Stone Gossard and they formed Pearl Jam" ehhh not really. stone and jeff flew eddie over to seattle after he added his voice to a mix tape with some song ideas stone had. the mix tape was shared to eddie by jack irons.

    • @jamjar5525
      @jamjar5525 3 года назад +7

Yeah nah. After Andy died Stone eventually hooked up with Mike McCready and then they brought Jeff in (Stone and Jeff having been in MLB & Green River together). They made a demo tape with Matt Cameron (of Soundgarden and later Pearl Jam) on drums. They asked Jack Irons (former RHCP drummer) to join but he declined, they asked if he knew any singers and he suggested his friend Eddie Vedder. Eddie had been in a number of bands before, including Indian Style with Brad Wilk (RAtM & Audioslave drummer), and Bad Radio. Ed listened to the instrumental demo tape, wrote lyrics for 3 songs (the Momma-Son trilogy) sent it to the guys and they flew him to Seattle (from San Diego) to jam. During this time Stone, Jeff and Mike were working with Chris and Matt on the TotD project. One day during TotD rehearsal, while waiting for PJ rehearsal Eddie noticed Chris having trouble getting Hunger Strike the way he wanted and so Ed walked up and started singing it, Chris liked it and asked him to share vocals on the track. Because the TotD album was released before PJ’s debut it ended up being the first time Eddie was singing on a proper record.

TEMPLE OF THE DOG is a band that made this album to honor Andrew Wood from Mother Love Bone. If you didnt know he was the singer and the rest of the band was the members of Pearl Jam. Andrew died and Eddie Vedder joined the band and Peal Jam was born. Andrew Wood died before their album came out but was an amazing singer! Please react to Chole Dancer by MLB.

It is so much fun to watch 2 beautiful ladies & bff's listen to music. I wish had thought to recommend a song by Return To Forever when Lu was still in town. The song is called "Hello Again" it is on the Musicmagic album. I played it for a group of my friends that I hadn't seen in a couple of years. A beautiful mellow song that includes a beautiful vocal duet with Gayle Moran Corea & Stanley Clarke. Even if you & Nick don't want to react to this song I sure hope you can squeeze a quick listen sometime in between the million other songs you want to listen to(haha)I think the lyrics are highly appropriate when you haven't seen a good friend in a long while.

I was in junior high when this stuff started to become popular, so I was in high school when Kurt Cobain died. I can tell you, it was awesome to grow up around the time that this was the kind of music that you'd hear on the radio and watch on MTV. Sure, other genres were popular too but stuff like this was literally charting instead of being underground music that only some people listened to. They'd pretty much play Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Metallica and Guns N Roses everywhere.

so I found someone listing the most progressive Nightwish songs to his mind.
"Shoemaker", (it's about Eugene Shoemaker, the only human being whose ashes have been buried on the moon)" and "Tribal" lyric videos from their latest album "Human : II : Nature", in 2020, topped his list.
React to one of those, please.
Or If you prefer live performances: Nightwish "The Greatest Show on Earth" Tampere 2015
The song covers 4,6 million years in 20 minutes.
Ghost Love Score Wacken 2013. Many first time listeners say the song makes them feel like going to a battle. 10 minutes.
"The Poet and the Pendulum" Wembley Arena 2015. A song in 5 parts, 14 minutes. I do not really know how to label the song, performance, other than saying it's a masterpiece imo. It's advisable to check the backstory before reacting to it.

      Grunge is Alternative
Alt-Rock is an umbrella term for a genre of rock in the same way that rock is an umbrella term for a genre of music.
Alternative is a subgenre of rock and grunge is a subgenre of alt-rock, mostly defined by its subculture, it’s more of a subculture than a subgenre.
so saying grunge isn’t alternative is like saying grunge isn’t rock or heavy metal isn’t metal etc

And what has the internet got to do with it too? Nothing!
Clearly you need the in-depth explanation because you don’t know a basic thing like the fact that grunge is Alternative, lol, that’s basic knowledge, music 101, established fact, it’s not a subjective opinion, it has always been the case, back when over 99% of the world didn’t have internet and probably didn’t even know what it was, didn’t know it even existed.
So you can get arsey all you like and come out with irrelevant straw man arguments that have absolutely no bearing at all on the issue, your life story is irrelevant and the internet is irrelevant, neither had any influence on the emergence of alt or grunge
It doesn’t change the facts, it doesn’t change that grunge is alternative, always has and always will be

What have you done with Nick, Lexx, locked him in a cupboard with some emergency supplies and some old Rush programmes tto read. It's quite funny to see in the comments below people fighting the grunge/alternative wars. As far as music is concerned there's only two types, good music and bad music. Everything else is just a label to seĺl stuff to a certain demographic. Apart from Nirvana I missed out on a lot of grunge in the 90's because I was into dance music. Here in the UK we also had Brit Pop (admittedly another label coined by marketing men). Brit Pop was largely a reaction to Grunge, and earnest young men in plaid shirts. I'm so glad I left the tribalism behind you miss out on so much. I'm nearly 60 now and too old to worry what's cool anymore. I missed out on so much good music in the 80's that I love now like The Smiths, The Cure, and New Order because I only listened to rock music. Keep up the great work.

      Great post!
The Brit Pop era was more my kind of thing as opposed to the self-hatred of grunge. But as you say, those were actually just labels to somehow term a lot of quite different music simply coming from the same region or age. "Britpop" is super diverse, and so is "grunge".

@@murdockreviews Thanks for your kind words. I think with Brit Pop as well there was a new confidence in the country what with a new Labour government (that turned out well didn't it). It was probably the most confident we'd felt since the 60's. I don't often feel patriotic, but one thing that does give me that feeling is music. We might only be a small island but our contribution to music is unsurpassed.

      @@FloatingAnarchy61 the contribution is undeniable!
Patriotism and pop culture shouldn't go together, but if it's done with a sense of humour it works. The Brit Pop thing gave us "Continentals' also a lot of fun and some music that actually stood the test of time remarkably well.
