Leonin Paladins are fun to play, I’ve been using my character Xior for a few months now and he is a tank with a 22 AC +2 when I cast sheild. He is a paladin of glory since he has a distaste for gods and divine beings and you can typically see him leading the charge into battle if it’s for the good in his eyes. He can tank, damage with divine smites, heal, roar, and has a high charisma for deception, intimidation and persuasion. He’s the best can’t wait for the bbeg!
Bump the fighter level up to 11 and go the rest of the way in Conquest Paladin, your damage potential goes way up each turn. It could literally become a fear based total lockdown build. I love it.
For my next campaign i am gonna play as Ajini goldmane from MTG so i was thinking Leonin Paladin because of his call to protect the weak. i think i am going to go with oath of conquest because it works well with the daunting roar.
That is a great combo! I think Barbarian is the natural pick for a Leonin and will be very fun to RP as well. I am very interested in Zealot Barbarian in general. That extra damage could just be crazy fun.
Commanding Presence and the Superior Technique fighting style would be cool. Hell, even take martial adept feat to take Tactical Assessment and Brace. You'll have 2d6 additional superiority die that also refresh on a short rest. If it's a more story centric campaign, and less focus on combat, early access to Tactical Assessment and Commanding Presence would work wonders beyond the extra combat tricks from polearm master. Either way, definitely adds more versatility and freshness from the standard polearm+sentinel early game combo
I have been playing a Leonine battlemaster for about 6 months now we just cusp of lv 5. It's am amazing build however I have gone a bit different to you pole armed one. I play him LG honourable, he's very much the protector / defender of the party. And with the new fighting styles released in Tasha's I took the Interception fighting style. The outlook and view of the character is very Spartan: so big shield, spear and sword. As to maneuvers; Quick Toss, precise strike, trip attack and menacing attack. I will admit using the fear/roar plays a great advantage however most of the campaign the gm has thrown creatures against us that are immune to fear 😨 so slightly annoying there as it's bread a butter of the character, but it makes for great RP after battles in the taverns to Roar adulation for a job well done, or for some petty change in the bar brawls we seldom have ! Feat wise I'm going with martial Adept, to get an extra fighting style, fighting initiate to get extra maneuvers and superior dice. Using half feats to get my str and con up with Athlete, Piercer, or tavern brawler. The big jump will happen around lv12 when I eventually take polearm master I will swap out Interception for Dueling to gain the +2 damage on my spear. This is where the character will start going on more offensive. Sorry for the long waffle but I'm excited to play my Leonine Iskander ! I'm aiming to play as far as 20 pure fighter 💪
@@RollingWithAdvantage To some degree of extent, such as; needing to eat twice as much as the rest of the party (being a martial class, he burns so many calories in fights) whenever we hunt creatures / monsters, he takes either the Heart or Liver as its his belief that the strength of this creature will overtime increase his own power. Long rest during the day as and when he can ! And more active at night !!! I have made him defer to females within the party for leadership decisions however when it comes to martial protection or battlefield control he takes point everything as in very protective of the others he stands with. The roar along with BM maneuver - commanding presence is great for role-playing situations on intimidation / persuasion checks !
Im about to start my first campaign as a Leonin Blood Hunter using the Order of the Lycan which at lvl 18 gives you the Blood Curse of the Howl which is another Daunting Roar with a larger range plus with the hybrid transformation you get resistances to normal damages like barbarians does when they rage I think it is gonna be really fun
I’m thinking Vengeance paladin with sentinel and a glaive! Relentless avenger plus sentinel is fun for cutting off retreating enemies! Never played a Leonin but maybe I’ll try to make one next time?
Leonin Rune Knight Fighter Instead, and take Superior Technique/Martial Adept. You get some amazing utility with the runes, /and/ you get to enlarge too, increasing the number of squares you control with your reach. If you can get charisma up to 13, multiclass options exist to truly min/max the hell out of this. You would have such battlefield control.
@@RollingWithAdvantage Right but if you push them any further than 5 feet away you wouldn't be able to reach them with your polearm so you wouldn't get the opportunity attack, I believe
For Leonin, I like Way of the Open Hand. I would let my players flavor their unarmed attacks as claw attacks. Maybe 5 levels of open hand monk then go rogue for sneak attack bonuses?

Leonin Conquest paladin has a built in synergy.

I love the idea of the roar as a role play tool. Do you find yourself using other cat characteristics as well?

I love to see a build around the Zephyr Strike spell. Only rangers get it but a 2 level dip and any class can have it.

So if you're using the Pushing Attack, you'd want to push them only 5 feet away, so you could still get your opportunity attack, right?
You get an opportunity attack if they choose to run not if you push them away.
