Stoked about Leonin and the Theros setting! The idea of being a lion person sounds like so much fun and the cultural notes really just plays into the being big and breaking things achetype. Nice video, fellas!
Daunting roar has quite a few factors that add up to make it great. - keys off of constitution so it can be moderately effective on any class - recharges on a short rest so it can potentially be used several times a day. - is a bonus action to use, so it can be used first to set up effective actions that make use of the fear condition. For example: grappling, shoving, lowering creatures passive scores, imposing disadvantage on spell checks. - it isn’t a spell or magical effect, so even creatures with magic resistance won’t have advantage on its save. - boosts defense of the leonin since creatures in that 10ft radius that fail have disadvantage on attack rolls too. Mechanically it’s similar to a conditional bonus action dodge that has a chance of failure. - the fear affect lasts until the end of your next turn, so you could use it at the beginning of a turn, and it would last until the very end of your next turn. You could try to bait out attacks of opportunity to take away reactions if you needed to for some reason, or just be more confident of leaving a creatures reach without disengaging if you really needed your action. - probably be really cool to do as a beast if your a moon Druid, if the form is capable of roaring. Radius would grow to cover a bigger area if the creature you change into is large or bigger.
Looks like i'm early. Something that seems odd about the Leonin mechanically is that their power budget seems lower than some of the other races. I would say that the Satyr is way stronger (and also very, very fun as a player character. Works good as an ancients paladin too).
@@daniellambeth6769 I disagree. Satyr are actually a really well designed race in my opinion (definetly a very strong race, but not overloaded). Most of their abilities are really flavorful, and having magic resistance means they can spend their build choices on more interesting fluff feats. Also, the race's flavor is not for everyone, so it's not a must-pick, it's not something that makes them completely out-shine the rest of the party, and advantage doesn't stack. The only thing that i would perhaps homebrew change about it is making it advantage on saves against all spells, and magical effects that charm, as to keep it a bit more focussed (just "magical effects" is really broad. A dragon breathing lightning sounds pretty magical, do they get advantage on that?).
@@vindex57 I feel like magical resistance does refer to magic status effects like charm/fear/sleep. It seems like a poor wording on their part, but as someone who wants to play the Satyr, advantage on all magics seems OP. Also of they needed, perhaps add a -2 to stealth checks due to having hooves to make a con
Honestly I wish they had been +1 strength, +1 dexterity, +1 charisma (making the roar use your charisma). There are already so many strength/con bonus races and they really don't offer that much compared to most of them. Like even though lions can climb trees they don't even get climbing speed.
That's a really good point. I could see the Con being nice for spellcasters though. Having that Cha bonus would be great to get a sorcerer going as well. I personally like to let players forgo something their race might get to allow their class to supplement it, so I would let someone go +2 Con, +1 Cha in a game I run.
I like them, but I wish their stats were +2 Strength +1 Charisma with their Daunting Roar being Charisma based since it's intimidating the enemy targets. The reason why I think that should be their stats is cause they'd be the more muscly cousins of the Tabaxi.
So one time I played a leonin who didn't admire or worship his god, but rather saw his god as a teacher or a friend who is wiser and should be listened to so he followed his gods teaching which was or course the teachings of Kord which go something like hit things in the face with weapons and lightning bolts in case your wondering my DM let me swap the radiant damage the zelet barbarian gets for lightning damage

Production value, most likely. RUclips is an audio/visual medium. They need better lighting and microphones, and a higher def camera. Look at the production value of a nerdarchy video by comparison.

Do A Tabaxis Vs Leionin Race Report...That Would Be Hella Dope
+ it’d be fun to see a Leonin Cleric- following under the gods despite their background and everyone looking down on their choice
Thundercats?? lmao, could drop them on Faerun with a Starjammer ship crash lands in some remote part of the world, lol,

Satyr is overloaded as hell, don't use that as a benchmark.

Serious question. What font do you guys use for your thumbnails. They're some of the best DND thumbnails ever. Plus your content is informational.
We use Canva.com for our thumbnails and the main font is Anton. The other font in the character catalyst is called Abys. Thanks for watching!
@@URGE haha you guys are awesome. Sharing this channel with my D&D group
If I had to build a Leonin character, I wonder how much fun it would be to build a Leonin “Path of the Giants” barbarian.
Satyr next tho right
Keep an eye on the channel ;) thanks for watching!
Why does this channel have so few subs?
