Great video, I’m playing a Redemption Paladin who himself is seeking Redemption; he made a deal with a devil in order to save his daughter’s life. He had to choose between family and duty, and so no matter what he chose he would have been damned. He is now exiled, tasked to find a myth with no hope of returning home unless he discovers that the myth is real. It makes for very interesting role play to have a Redemption Paladin that has direct experience with falling and failing. It creates this aspect where the Paladin is not necessarily as judgemental or forceful about redeeming people; redemption has to happen from within, and playing that kind of character is fun and complex.

That's a complex journey! I hope you have a good time! I really like the idea of having to find a myth which means proving that it is real. It makes me think of the bigfoot hunters who spend their lives chasing proof and they stay motivated because just because they haven't found it yet doesn't mean its not there!

I'm playing one with the Failed Merchant background. He cheated his customers and scammed his suppliers until he got caught and spend some time in prison.

Reading this back story made me feel so casual that I haven't made one for my own paladin.

I’m playing an arch devil who renounced evil, losing all his power in the process, but gained humanity- becoming a tiefling.

My paladin Gentle oath was in the curse of strahd campaign his goal was to redeem strahd towards the end of the campaign he knew he couldn't redeem him so he believed freeing him and the land of this curse is redemption enough for his crimes and that if oath faild he knew someone else would take up his mission even if it takes years

made a character, figured out divine sorc 1/redemption paladin of tymorra 4, fit the character the best. He's immaculately conceived, never given a name, and a tortle whi doesn't understand how young he.is.
your ideas are great to balance off his build

Man, never had the chance to play DnD before, but if I do I would like to be a Redemption Paladin. Trying to control and buff instead of just smashing might be interesting, and if there is no hope, divine smite is the answer.

I'm currently playing an Oath of Redemption paladin for almost one and a half years now. It can be fun and yes it's a tank and support type of class.
Roleplay wise she became the face of the party and she has to deal with most of the conflicts which can be draining for a long game.
Also for this type of character, you have to have the correct story. Rn, we don't have anyone who needs redemption. We met a few demons who needed to be killed but not anymore so now she really feels like just a support tank with a useless oath. The only flavor is that she is not allowed to hurt people or the oath will be broken.
I'm looking for a better reason for her to stay with the party but it's really stressful.

May I ask for an update of how things are? My level 7 rogue is about to go on the path of paladin and she's stressed mostly on what to do. But out of character wise I'm stressed trying to figure out which oath she'll take character wise, she a "false" folk hero she got credit for something someone else did but for the sake of those around her she took the credit. I have 3 choices for her, redemption, crown, and watcher maybe vengeance too for an indirect reason

@David Harris hey, I think a goblin paladin seeking redemption is an interesting idea. I'm assuming you want suggestions on the role-playing aspect of the clas rather than gameplay.
If I was me RPing I would spin it around a smaller scope like, for example, the fact that goblins are stereotypically cowards and the paladin doesn't want to be a coward anymore for some reason (a serious motive or even a silly one if you prefer). IMO something as grand as trying to redeem the bad name of all goblins doesn't fit with a race so divided and individualistic. Additionally, tweaking the motivation this way leaves you room to avoid the holier than thou clichés than afflict some paladins and make an interesting and flawed character. Of course those are all suggestions, there's no best way to RP, do what you think is more fun.
