Good morning Tom, I was just sitting here having coffee with you . When I was young we used to dig holes in the ground and store things like apples and many of our vegetables only we used leaves between the layers and they stayed fresh for a very long time. It sure was a beautiful day at camp. Have a great one brother and I will see you on the next adventure. Dwayne
Hello my friend, And Welcome back! It funny you talk about how the Viking use to do this and that, I'm a little older then you are And from Indiana ( U.S.A. ) And i remember how we use to cure meat over the winter, And the storage house is what we called ( root cellar ) and the salt on the fish sucked all the blood out plus cured the meat. And to smoke meat or fish it didn't need salk the smoke cured the meat and it wouls last for 8 month or more!. Hey buddy I love all your videos!!! Thank you so much......
Appreciate that a lot Richard 🤗👍🏻and it’s always a great pleasure when you drop by in CimbrerCamp 🏕🔥🌲 And thanks for sharing your knowledge with us brother💪🏻 Tom
I knew there was something called that other than the root cellar, I remember hearing my grandma talking about burying some vegetables and such un a shallow hole with straw and dirt to preserve it. Ive always heard of the root cellar tho and walked thru many plantations in south Louisiana with still working root cellars.
Hi Tom, nice video from the camp.. Yes, not only the vikings but also us can not only dry, preserve and otherwise store fruit for the winter, but also vegetables and what one has on hand.. Make jams and everything that can be stored nicely. Have a great time Tom, cheers to you and Cornelius! Cheers, have a nice weekend! 🙂🐕🌲🔥🙋♀Skål 🍻
Amazing Tom. Thanks so much. I took my daughters to a Celtic Highland Festival and they both kept saying, "Dad, this looks just like Viking Tom's festival he just went to." They wanted to put there money together and buy you a sword, but $10 of allowance money unfortunately doesn't buy a full Tang sword these days. ⛺🏴⚔️
Ahhh that is SO sweet Jonathan 🤗 and I’m deeply touched by the kindness your daughters are showing 😁 Give them a BIG hug from Cornelius and me. And thanks for the feedback and for watching my videos 🏕🔥 Tom
Tom👍👍 The Viking lesson was very interesting, many hardships were overcome in history by experimentation. Vikings like other cultures had their own methods that were specific to location and climate. The oat porridge looked good and the "old school" way it was prepared is cool. Cimbrer coffee😉put the finishing touch on the meal. Thanks for the trip to Cimbrer Camp with you and Cornelius, great time. See you next time.
Always good to see you there Terry 😉👍🏻🏕🔥🐕 and glad you enjoyed your stay Thanks for being a part of my crew on my Viking longboat here in Danmark 🇩🇰🐕🏕🔥 Tom
Tom Hello again, that lil furball is such a cutie..yes Cornelius I am talking about you. I have noticed the lack of salt in the coffee, did you change brands? Thank you for the tutorial. Take care and have a great week. bye Cornelius
Hello Tom thank you for sharing your breakfast today. I enjoyed learning how the Vikings preserved their food for the winter. So glad you had such a beautiful day to be at Cimbrer Camp.

Hello Tom , another great and instructive video , thoroughly enjoyed watching , Good to see that the Camp seems to have been left alone , no roberies ! , Be Well my Friend , Best wishes to you and the Family , Strength , Honour and Respect .

Very interesting video Tom, it strikes me how important the cod fish was for everyone living around the North Atlantic. Seeing how it is preserved there and having seen how cod is preserved in Labrador myself the methods are pretty much identical. Really like how your camp is evolving too. Thank you Tom!
Hi Tom, it is such a treat for me to watch your videos. I've been locked up indoors this week since we've had 119 degree weather this week. We don't dare go outside. Thank you so much!
Ohhh yeah that’s hot 🥵 Craig … so stay cool my friend and take care. I’m glad my video could help you getting through the isolation Atb to you and your family 🤗 Tom
The Kules, Clamps in English, I have tried in the past, with varying levels of success. For root crops left in the ground, a generous amount of straw from the corn fields, then earthing up to cover the draw was a success. Being able to harvest ad-hoc throughout the winter. Another sort of clamp, boxes with sand and the root crops laid out uniformly, between layers of sand. Just to the north of here are the chalk hills, corn/grain was buried in pits hollowed out of the chalk, then a cap of chalk and clay sealed it. That however was a practice that went back to the Bronze Age.
Tom and Cornelius … Another educational, informative and entertaining video from Cimber Bushcraft!!! Learned some new things earlier this morning from this video. I guess an “old dog” can learn new tricks. I always enjoy the interaction between you and Cornelius!!! He is such a great animal and pet!!! Thanks again for the video; can’t wait for the next one. Until then, take care, be safe, best wishes and God bless!!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 👨🌾✝️🙏🖖👍🏼

With the consumerism as it is in the world (I appreciate we are all guilty to a greater or lesser degree), it's so refreshing to learn how all of our ancestors lived and survived. Great, interesting and relaxing videos. Thank you
I love your Viking cabin! Everything looks so nice! Great lesson on food preservation too. And that porridge looked delicious!! So nice to see Cornelius again, too! Very enjoyable video!👍
Sitting in my living room at 530 in the morning. Excited to see another of your videos. Very informative. Drinking my coffee with you Tom!! Jim in California
Tom you are very special person your videos are great even though I really don't understand the viking age they are very informative I wish I could come to cimber camp with you you are a great inspiration! 👍 Thank You
Very interesting video Tom! We call the Kule, a Cold Cellar! Often dug into the ground inside the house. I was wondering about spices in the. Viking age. I know the Vikings were great travelers and traders…. So I imagine they brought different spices home. Maybe touch on that when you hit “S”!!!!
Great subject Tom. Nice to see you back in camp. That fireplace seems to work well. Tarp was a good addition Another great video. ATB to you and family.👍🏻🏕
Tom it is a very informative video that gives a us a deep insight into the food preservation of Vikings Era. Buy the way i was wondering when were you born & how old are you, as you look very fit and in perfect health?
Thanks for your feedback Zahir 😉 I’m glad you found my video interesting 👍🏻 and I was born here in Denmark 🇩🇰 and so many years ago that I can’t remember when 😆😇 Tom
Another AWESOME upload from our favourite Norseman 👍👍 very informative Thanks for sharing your knowledge ☺️ Much love from your friends in Wales UK Ritchie veteran and Raven xxxx
I once accidentally dried some fish in my freezer and turned it into klipfish lol. I bought a frozen pack of cod, opened the bag to get one piece and put the rest back in the freezer. Since they weren't individually vacuum packed they dried out completely.
Good job with the historical food preservation instruction. We used to clamp (kule) potatoes when I was young, not sure anyone does it these days in the UK.
Hej Tom and Mr. Cornelius,🐕 from N.S Canada. Your Viking series are always interesting and educational. Did the Vikings use the method of preserving their meat in lard? Atb my friend.💪
I’m glad you like my series Daryl 😉👍🏻 and appreciate that you are watching it. In my research I haven’t found anything about preserving in lard 🤔 but that doesn’t mean that the Vikings didn’t do that 😉. Thanks for visiting us again 🏕🔥🐕🇩🇰 Tom
Well Tom, another fantastic video! There was a time when these skills were practiced and known by most people. To me, its sometimes sad to realize the old ways are becoming lost to modern society. Growing up my grandparents lived with us and they used to tell us kids stories about living when they were young. I really wish I paid more attention. Now, they are gone and that generation has passed on and taken valuable life hacks with them. Its a pity. However, people like you keep the old ways alive. Keep up the great job. I'm appreciative there are people like you who take time to make these wonderful videos. Peace be the journey.
@@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag Tom, I did a DNA ancestry test and I found out I am 16% Denmark and Sweden! It brings out the Viking in me! Northwestern Europe 44% and Germanic Europe 22%!!
Hello Tom, very informative video! Thank you for this beautiful presentation. I look forward to more videos from you. Greetings from the Kiel Fjord Stefan
Hello Brother @Tom @CimbrerBushcraft-Viking , I pray you are in good health my Brother . I have enjoyed the video very much . Growing up I had Oatmeal almost every morning . I am now down to 400 1/2 lbs. Brother , That makes 73 1/2 lbs. I have lost in 6 months , I am already feeling like a new man , Feel almost like a rutting Buck . LOL , You take care Brother , I will catch you on the next one . May you always have the wind in your sells , And good weather Brother . See you then on the next visit . Thank you for letting me come along with you again my friend .

tom, cornelius viking friends interesting history lesson, the kules and the other buildings remind me of root cellars that people still here in the states in alaska they still salt, dry,and smoke fish but alot of the modern world has lost this knowledge. what a shame people are to use to going to the supermarket love the vid take care🐉🐕
Wow you’ve made some awesome changes at camp, I’ve missed many of your videos as I’ve been out camping, kayaking and hiking nonstop for weeks , I’ve missed a lot lol. I’m going to have to play catch up on your videos Tom… great stuff as always.👍👍yea over a month ago since I saw your last video…
I'm an old woman now, but when younger I did Viking Age reenactment (which is why I love your videos). I remember my favourite beer, onion and cheese soup...probably sounds disgusting to non reenactors but it was always delicious. Many of the ways our ancestors used to prepare and store food are making a comeback, for probably obvious reasons. Foolish, it is, to always rely on electricity for everything. I also remember my grandmother cooking and preserving beef and pork in crockpots of lard. It was always delicious, and kept in the cold pantry lasted at least the year out.
PS I ate salt cod for many many years. The secret to making it edible was adding a little vinegar to the soaking water and changing it often before cooking. :)
Thanks for the tip 😉👍🏻 and your nice comments. I’m glad you enjoy my videos and can relate to it from your past 🤗 Appreciate that you want to follow me on my adventures here in Denmark 🇩🇰🏕🔥🐕 Tom

Great idea Chuck 😁👍🏻 thanks … Hope you and your wonderful family are doing well and that you all have a great week ahead 🏕🔥🐕
Tom

I once accidentally dried some fish in my freezer and turned it into klipfish lol. I bought a frozen pack of cod, opened the bag to get one piece and put the rest back in the freezer. Since they weren't individually vacuum packed they dried out completely.
Ha ha that’s great 😁👍🏻 and I hope it was delicious 😋🐳
Atb to you my friend 🏕🔥🐕
Tom
Good job with the historical food preservation instruction. We used to clamp (kule) potatoes when I was young, not sure anyone does it these days in the UK.
They still do it here in Denmark 🇩🇰 … so probably also in your country 😉👍🏻
Thanks for your feedback and support 🤗🏕🔥🐕🍻
Tom
Hej Tom and Mr. Cornelius,🐕 from N.S Canada. Your Viking series are always interesting and educational. Did the Vikings use the method of preserving their meat in lard? Atb my friend.💪
I’m glad you like my series Daryl 😉👍🏻 and appreciate that you are watching it. In my research I haven’t found anything about preserving in lard 🤔 but that doesn’t mean that the Vikings didn’t do that 😉. Thanks for visiting us again 🏕🔥🐕🇩🇰
Tom
Learned a lot need more videos
That’s great Isaac 😁👍🏻and thank you so much for the feedback my friend 🏕🔥🐕
Tom
Well Tom, another fantastic video! There was a time when these skills were practiced and known by most people. To me, its sometimes sad to realize the old ways are becoming lost to modern society. Growing up my grandparents lived with us and they used to tell us kids stories about living when they were young. I really wish I paid more attention. Now, they are gone and that generation has passed on and taken valuable life hacks with them. Its a pity. However, people like you keep the old ways alive. Keep up the great job. I'm appreciative there are people like you who take time to make these wonderful videos. Peace be the journey.
Thank you so much for your kind words 🤗 and for sharing some of your life stories with us
Glad you found my video interesting 🏕🔥

Kule in English out here on the high plains would probably be the “root cellar”. It doubled in the summer as a tornado shelter. Great video as usual.
Thanks Gary 😁👍🏻 I’m glad you came along again and appreciate your info 🏕🔥🐕
Tom
I’m glad you enjoy my videos and can relate to it from your past 🤗
Appreciate that you want to follow me on my adventures here in Denmark 🇩🇰🏕🔥🐕
Tom
