@@TheAlja But after that widened screen part the rest of the song gets a new context and even the phrasing changes. After you hear about how her mother died and how she wishes she could show the mom her new apartment, job and lovely boyfriend and that her daughters is not a bad person, the following Instagram posts are about at least trying to think about the well being of others even if failing (the misguided political posts and quotes), buying stuff for her apartment and about her marrying the boyfriend she loves (it is not just "a glass of wine", but "a simple glass of wine", and not "a ring" but "a ring from the man I love"), which are the things she is sharing because she can't show them to her mother. I always feel compelled to make this point on White Woman Instagram. Bo makes fun of these women yes, but the part about the dead mom shows that he is fundementally empathetic towards these people he is making fun of. We all cope with the difficulties of the world in different ways, it just so happens that society denigrates the hobbies that women use to do it.

I couldn't for the life of me understand how they had come to such a different conclusion than me and it's nice to see other people saw it the way I saw it.
Bo has always been a decent singer, but it’s much easier to tell how good it is on “Inside” when he’s in a more controlled environment and gets multiple takes and post production to clean up the track. He still sounds pretty great in “Make Happy” live on stage
Your infectious enthusiasm was just what I needed tonight, so thanks Also the bit in white woman's Instagram always hits me in the heart as someone who has lost a parent, which is why it's my favourite song of his.
Bo is a genius. Welcome to the Internet is so true, and so creepy. Like, what have we done? And the serious part in the middle of White Woman's Instagram makes me tear up. I'm not a woman, and my mom's not gone, but the delivery of those emotions just really hits hard. I think that was his way of saying yeah, we laugh at the dumb stuff people post online, but they're still real people with real issues. Beyond that the song is absolutely beautiful. The music, his vocals, the video itself, all perfectly executed.
As others have mentioned a few of the songs from this special are almost necessary to react to within the context of the special and not independently. All Eyes On Me being a big one, probably Bo’s finest work but loses almost all of its weight without being viewed as a part of the full special
One of my favorite parts of this is the cinematography where he pans out from portrait view(like a phone) to landscape view and you can then see the mess in the room when he is talking about something real in life like loosing a loved one. The symbolism of how life really isn’t about the curated version of ourselves we put out on the internet for the word to see is powerful.
Honestly “Welcome to the Internet”, “All Eyes on Me”, & “Goodbye” are my faves from Bo Burnham (you should check that latter ones out too btw, I think you’ll like them!)
I'm so so excited for more Bo Burnham reactions! They're all such good songs! But my heart, thoughts, and prayers go to everyone out there in a tough spot right now! I had no idea about the intense rains and flooding in Australia right now! 💚
I was so looking forward to this! I was not disappointed! It was delightful to see you enjoy it as much as so many of us have. All of Inside is amazing. And yeah - his eyes are very blue AND he's...um..."blossomed" rather positively in the last 5 years in many ways. Lol. I was only guilty of maybe three things he mentioned, but it was absolutely spot on, right? He didn't really disappear nor have a breakdown which would preclude him from acting in a few movies and writing/directing one of his own. Only his live performances were on hold. You might want to watch Promising Young Woman. He plays opposite Carrie Mulligan and is really impressive as an actor as well! Yes, go Patreon. I'll be there! 💕
There’s also the line “it’s been a decade since you’ve been gone” while earlier there’s a balloons which say 27 which means she lost them when she was 17 or even earlier
The explanation for the difference in his singing voice compared to his previous specials may be that 1: he's older, so his voice has matured more since then. He was only 16 when he started on RUclips, 18/in his early 20's during specials, and now he's 30. Not much changing would happen at these ages, (at least not compared to 12 to 16) but your voice still changes a bit. 2: He's always been good at singing and had a good voice, he was just kinda out of breath while performing live from going non stop and his anxiety. I know from experience that those two things make your voice sound less good lol
His voice has definitely improved. I'd say it's probably a mix of things. Probably vocal lessons, but also his voice maturing. I also think his songs often really pushed his vocal range farther than he could comfortably go, and now he's had time to improve his range a bit, and also more of his songs are in his comfortable range.
He's been doing theatre most of his life, so that's why his voice and performing is so amazing. Loved your reaction...you should do more Bo! You won't regret it and it would be great to watch.
Going from Make Happy to Inside you can definitely appreciate how his voice has both matured with age and the work he's clearly put in over the last 5 years focusing on developing his singing more than creating comedy so that he can come back and give us these gems
BTW: Can't Handle This is one of my favorites by Bo. I have always had trouble with anxiety and depression and I cried the first time I heard it (and have been unable to see it without tearing up ever since - especially when he sings "and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself " at the end).
Welcome to the internet is VERY inspired by Dany Elfman's work. that evil and unsettling but also whimsical and fun feeling you mentioned. This entire comedy special touches on cognitive dissonance which this song causes in us. it is incredible. That all said, if you enjoy this kind of music you should check out natewantstobattle as well! Specifically Phantom by natewantstobattle or Twisted from his Ocarina of time inspired album. :)
I am sure he has had voice lessons, but he is a professional singer. It would be strange if he hadn't ever had training. Even when he sings with autotune on his voice, people underestimate how good your voice and control have to be to make it sound as good as his songs usually do, especially since so much of his work is recorded live. Also 14:25, I thought it was great that Alice proudly announced she doesn't yet have a dog (with or without a "flower crown") or posted about avocadoes...with a plush octopus in a flower crown and an avocado on the shelf behind her.
Great video! Awesome to see you react to these songs in particular, I think welcome to the Internet is one of my favourites. Hope you'll also put "we think we know you" on your list, first time I saw that I was blown away!
Ok after REALLY overindulging my nostalgia by watching WAY too many of your reactions to people I've loved watching over the years, YES you should do a reaction to inside... in as many parts as you need it's amazing :)
HOLY SHIT!!! YOU GOT IT IN REAL TIME!! You're my new hero. (talking about the internet song). As a content creator or reaction video person, I can only imagine how this song hits.
Haha loving your Bo Burnham adventure! Looking forward to seeing more! A good way to react to his specials are to watch them all the way through and then break out the reactions per song/skit.
Bo's always been sharp and funny. But with Inside, he unleashed an insurmountable amount of pure genius. Which is why I strongly recommend watching the whole special from start to finnish. It really is a masterpiece. All the songs hit harder in context. Anyway, nice video!
Not gonna lie, our last flood here was '98 and I still remember it vividly, and it's a big part of why I'm a Community Emergency Response Team volunteer
I love the many layers to the Instagram song, because the screen moves from the square of Instagram shots to more of a real video ratio when the song gets “real”/the hypothetical woman says something sincere… then right back to square and things either meant to appear a certain way.
So. There's some songs that are perfect to listen to in context of the special and just good outside of the context. While, obviously, after listening to them once (or hundreds of times) before it'd be less exciting to watch the special. Hence I'm gonna list the songs that are, imo, are ok to listen to out of context even if you don't want to make 112% great impression into 104% (or something more like 80%), and that won't ruin your impression of the special, that songs being: • Comedy • FaceTime with My Mom (Tonight) • How the World Works • White Woman's Instagram ✓ • Unpaid Intern • Sexting • Problematic • Welcome to the Internet ✓ (Don't remember every song you've seen so far, but it's hard to miss those two))
You are missing the context of the pandemic special by eating random chunks. Inside was filmed, edited, and performed ALL inside a single room at Bo’s house during Covid (inside) - he explains it all in the special. It deals with depression and isolation and art and anxiety. You can’t tell both songs you watched already are from the mid section of a masterpiece and hold a lot more weight as part of a whole. Realizing the process behind the construction of these clips is where most of the magic is.
All Eyes On Me and That Funny Feeling were my favorite songs from Inside. Both of them just broke me. Watching the special was truly an experience I won't forget for a while.
Would definitely pay to watch your reactions to the specials on a patreon! Also You should wait and not react to All Eyes On Me until you watch the special. There is so much context from the entire special that is crucial to setting the tone of the song
Also as a fan of his and of how your geeking. He was Nominated for 6 and won 3 Emmys for his show Inside. He's an award winning artist I'm sure I'm not the only one who's proud of how he's grown I've watched this entire Playlist of Bo. Lol keep it up
just do what my 2 friends and i do: one pays for Disney+/Hulu, one pays for HBO max/Netflix, one pays for Amazon Prime/Peacock. and we all share passwords lol
Yeah with regards to the Instagram song. I believe the point is that while their account may present them as 'basic' or cliche and also while they may present the idealised version of their life, behind all of that is a real person who's life is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. Perfectly captured by panning out to wideacreen during the sad part and showing that beyond the lens there's a lot more going on. Dudes a fuckin genius what can I say.

6:08 I haven't received one, in that I wasn't the intended recipient, but when I was ~12 we went to Delaware for a wedding, and I was forced to let one of my Delawarian cousins borrow my phone. He decided to use my phone to take roughly twenty pics of his trouser tadpole, and sent them to _every girl in his class_ through their _student email._ He then proceeded to not only _not delete the photos before returning my phone to me,_ he also *_made my phone's wallpaper his junk._* Needless to say, there's a reason I've never gone back to the East Coast.
I really enjoy your energy in your videos and your sense of humour. After you live with someone for years who doesn't laugh at the things you do, its refreshing to find someone I can relate with while enjoying a joke. I was married to a Swede for 6 years, I loved her dearly, and she will always be a part of me, but man... ever watch your favorite movie with a friend and a really good part you like is coming up and you're waiting to see their reaction, and in the corner of your eye you see them on their phone instead or they leave to the restroom while saying "You don't have to pause it.) (sigh+sad face) Yeah... Anyways, on Bo. His music is always layered. On the surface he'll be funny, but somewhere in a song he'll bring up something that makes you think. In this one, delving deeper, this whole bit is about a single woman who's living life. Lost her mom at the age of 17, its been a decade since she died, at some point dad also died, and as song progresses you find that she eventually marries and is still moving forward. Even from here I'm sure one could dive even deeper and pull something else out of it.

When this first came out I would see so many people like "the point is about how the woman is oversharing and putting serious personal things next to frivolous things. isn't she so stupid". I couldn't for the life of me understand how they had come to such a different conclusion than me and it's nice to see other people saw it the way I saw it.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only male compelled to mansplain white woman's instagram.
Bo has always been a decent singer, but it’s much easier to tell how good it is on “Inside” when he’s in a more controlled environment and gets multiple takes and post production to clean up the track. He still sounds pretty great in “Make Happy” live on stage
Your infectious enthusiasm was just what I needed tonight, so thanks
Also the bit in white woman's Instagram always hits me in the heart as someone who has lost a parent, which is why it's my favourite song of his.
Also important to have seen his Kanye Rant before All Eyes on Me
I love your reactions to Bo. Also Alice, you do totally have an avocado plush behind you on the shelf. Bo gets us all, even if we don't realize it XD
Seeing your expression change so quickly so many times is an accurate representation of this song 😂
I've seen some piano instructor's reaction to Welcome to the Internet, he said that it has a traditional Jewish melody, which is just brilliant. 👌
Sad is also grate!
I'm so so excited for more Bo Burnham reactions! They're all such good songs! But my heart, thoughts, and prayers go to everyone out there in a tough spot right now! I had no idea about the intense rains and flooding in Australia right now! 💚
I also noticed that his singing voice has gotten much better now.
(Side-eyeing the stuffed avocado right behind you)
I was so looking forward to this! 💕
"Give a hug and kiss to dad." Losing both of them must have sucked.
I would hit that big red subscribe button, but for some reason it's greyed out.
There’s also the line “it’s been a decade since you’ve been gone” while earlier there’s a balloons which say 27 which means she lost them when she was 17 or even earlier
You literally have an Avocado plushie over your left shoulder...
Alice; there is literally a plushie avocado in the background of the shot you posted whilst saying you don’t think you’re an avocado girl. 😂😂😂
It's just looking off camera like "this is fine."
And a flower crown on that purple octopus
The explanation for the difference in his singing voice compared to his previous specials may be that
1: he's older, so his voice has matured more since then.
Welcome To The Internet is like a Disney villian carnival barker origin song. Evil and vaguely seductive. So good.
He's been doing theatre most of his life, so that's why his voice and performing is so amazing. Loved your reaction...you should do more Bo! You won't regret it and it would be great to watch.
Thats cool info but if you listen to his previous songs before this special his voice isn't nearly as nice. Im sure that's what she was talking about.
She seemed to miss the really deep part of the White woman's instagram song.
14:33 - "Never posted about avocados" Has avocado plushy literally less than a meter away.
Going from Make Happy to Inside you can definitely appreciate how his voice has both matured with age and the work he's clearly put in over the last 5 years focusing on developing his singing more than creating comedy so that he can come back and give us these gems
15:03 well…you do have an avocado on the back shelf 😛
BTW: Can't Handle This is one of my favorites by Bo. I have always had trouble with anxiety and depression and I cried the first time I heard it (and have been unable to see it without tearing up ever since - especially when he sings "and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself " at the end).
His laugh in Welcome to the Internet always reminds me of Jafar from the original Disney's Aladdin
His voice has definitely aged like wine.
Jesus, it’s like australia is either dealing with fire or water. I don’t know which is worse.
Thats what happens when the Fire Nation Attacks.
The avocado in the background while she’s saying she’s not like that 😅🤣
Bo's always been sharp and funny.
“Groomers, predators, just stop it, y’know?”
-Alice
I love the many layers to the Instagram song, because the screen moves from the square of Instagram shots to more of a real video ratio when the song gets “real”/the hypothetical woman says something sincere… then right back to square and things either meant to appear a certain way.
don't forget his first special isn't even on netflix, and his second is here on youtube in full
"What" is on RUclips and Netflix. "Make Happy" and "Inside" are only on Netflix.
@@5stardave his first special was "words words words", which isn't on netflix OR youtube. I think it's on prime video
You have a compelling camera presence, great content as always, thank you!
" I don't think I have those things" - Sitting in front of all of those things, lmao. Great reaction
So. There's some songs that are perfect to listen to in context of the special and just good outside of the context. While, obviously, after listening to them once (or hundreds of times) before it'd be less exciting to watch the special. Hence I'm gonna list the songs that are, imo, are ok to listen to out of context even if you don't want to make 112% great impression into 104% (or something more like 80%), and that won't ruin your impression of the special, that songs being:
• Comedy
• FaceTime with My Mom (Tonight)
• How the World Works
• White Woman's Instagram ✓
• Unpaid Intern
• Sexting
• Problematic
• Welcome to the Internet ✓
(Don't remember every song you've seen so far, but it's hard to miss those two))
The way he drops in that part about her mom and dad being dead for 10 years and then immediately talks about goat cheese salad. 🤯
Right!? Only Bo can put us on emotional roller coasters like that.. hahaha
You can really tell how much he cares about and empathizes with my generation (gen Z), especially in interviews, just seems like a great guy
The new special is rly worth to see fully with all talks
Would definitely pay to watch your reactions to the specials on a patreon! Also You should wait and not react to All Eyes On Me until you watch the special. There is so much context from the entire special that is crucial to setting the tone of the song
If Disney made an R rated sequel to Wreck-It Ralph this would be the song that introduces the villain.
Great video! Really enjoyed it, especially the editing
She NEEDS to watch All Eyes On Me. It's a great follow up to Can't Handle This
I agree we are so lucky to have Bo! He is totally healing the world with comedy 💖
Making a literal difference (metaphorically).
😂
😂
😂
😂
I think I remember Alice and Gingerland from a VHS tape I got in the 80s .. there was a black curtain hiding this particular video section. ;)
Avocado. Flower crown. Novel. Neon sign of a flamingo. Three little words. Your shelf is the song in a nutshell.
😁
Burnam needs a Dr. Suess style cartoonist to do his videos.
Yer i live in the goldcoast.
but in the mountain area just inside Goldcoast.
the floods have completely locked us in havn't being able to leave the Suburb.
But thankfully we live safely at the top.
have a few friends and family in Really Bad areas.
Thanks for the Thoughts, Awesome to see your Content as allways.
Update: i have now Escaped to Adelaide and no longer locked in from the flooding..
Glad to come rewatch some more Gingerland content and remember the good vibes.
Hey Alice, he got you good! Absolutely happy to see all the specials on Patreon, bring it on! Can't wait 😁
Thanks for your dangerously appropriate interpretations I've heard so far. I enjoy your channel and can't wait for you to BLOW!💯🤙
If you didn't know, "what." Is on youtube.
Damnit, you finally got me to subscribe. So damn happy and positive and all that shit. You're good for the world.
"I've never posted an avocado," she said, while having an avocado plushie sitting in the background, porbably crying tears of neglect 😢😆
Great video! On the note about Patreon, if you don't like the idea of taking money for your videos(which i would gladly pay for) you can always choose to donate all your earnings to the flooding going on or other good causes :)
The theme of this song is a circus freak show. He is inviting us in to the craziest freak show of all time. The internet ropes us in. Pretty crazy fro the people who don’t what regular life was like before.
You're laughter is so infectious 😂 love these reactions!
11:41 “B-o lingers and it makes ya think.”
and completely baffles you 😂
if you haven't seen him yet, you should check out a singing comedian named Stephen Lynch.. i really think you would enjoy him.. a couple of my favorites are "Craig", "Special Ed", and "Divorce Song"
its probably impossible with copyright but would love to see you watch the whole Inside Special.
6:08 I haven't received one, in that I wasn't the intended recipient, but when I was ~12 we went to Delaware for a wedding, and I was forced to let one of my Delawarian cousins borrow my phone. He decided to use my phone to take roughly twenty pics of his trouser tadpole, and sent them to _every girl in his class_ through their _student email._ He then proceeded to not only _not delete the photos before returning my phone to me,_ he also *_made my phone's wallpaper his junk._*
Needless to say, there's a reason I've never gone back to the East Coast.
Even from here I'm sure one could dive even deeper and pull something else out of it.
you expected a gradual development, but surprise, he suddenly got long hair and beard in his new special
"i just got goosebumps" meanwhile i'm here like, maam calm down, you didnt even get to the villain laugh yet
Alice: What a creepy vibe!
Also Alice: 💃
I am one minute and four seconds into this video and it’s just a plug, for yourself. This is when I switch videos. Good luck.
Two great songs from the new special. White Woman's Instagram almost requires the video to fully appreciate the song, every shot is gold.
Love your reactions!! Just a suggestion if you do more from Inside, and I have seen other reactors do it this way: watch all of Inside and then break it into chunks for your reaction videos. If you’ve already reacted to something it would still be worth seeing you react again with it in context! (Often when people break it up they include the bits before or after)
The entirety of "Welcome To The Internet" comes off as a Disney Villain cackling like a mad-man at the fact that he just won.
I would be happy to subscribe to your Patreon for the full special reactions! (And some of the other videos you couldn’t post because of copyright)
It’s so awesome to see someone react to Bo from his start up to now. I usually see people react to his newer stuff and then maybe discover some of his older stuff. But it’s really nice to look back at how he’s grown and changed.
Been waiting for these! Would 💯% pay to watch you react to the specials on Patreon. One that I already subscribe to is only $1 a month, so it doesn't have to be much. You could also do reactions to Eighth Grade and Promising Young Woman that way too!
It happened when I was live on Instagram with my best friend we were both dramatized I'm still traumatized this day
After "I can't handle this" he went on hiatus for 5 years.. it was kinda a cry for help.. but then he came back with netflix special..
I was very amused about you saying how you've never posted an instagram of/with avocados. While literally having a plushie avocado just behind you in the video 😂😋
I discovered your channel a few hours ago. I'm on a binge. Please someone stop me :')
Yo, low key, if you need a Netflix log in, I'd be chill to throw you mine. I'm all about supporting fellow creatives, and that'd just be an extremely easy way pitch in. Also, Bo Burnham is my spirit animal, and your reactions are high key low key S tier.
I love how she was like I don’t think I e ever heard him really sing and then the next song he actually sings and she doesn’t really react lol
I really like your editing! Keep it up! awesome
