My goodness, I've seen a lot of sweet old movies, but this isn't one of them. I found it as sweet as sour milk. I wasn't convinced by any of the easy resolutions and sudden changes of heart left and right. It was as heartwarming as, "Oh, well, since this is how things are, guess we'd better resign ourselves to the circumstances and make the best of them." I suppose, though, compared with the movies of today, almost anything might look sweet in comparison.
The characters are adults in adult situations. I can't think of any of the current stars with enough apparent maturity to put over characters like these.
This movie had a great storyline. I am always amazed how they could make movies back then that were barely an hour long and yet they could tell a complete and really entertaining story.
I loved the 30s portrayal of a single father. Most films back in the day, if they depicted single parenthood, the focus was always on the mother. This was unique in that respect. And my, he was a sweet dad! 😄 An all around enjoyable film with likeable characters.
I loved that there was a lone father who clearly adored his baby and was doing his best for him, and that he had his male pal baby sit him. It was different I agree and made it charming.
Thank You. Another wonderful experience. I must say, I really appreciate you taking the time to find these and to put them in a place where we can find them so readily. Much gratitude.
Wow, that was great, really good, snappy writing, actors enjoying their parts, and decent production values. Interesting, twisty plot too. Thanks for posting!
Loved this! Something different and sparkles with characters that feel real. They develop & grow as individuals. I could practically watch it all over again. Thanks for a terrific upload. 🙏
Good Depression era flick. Rags to riches to rags and all that. At first, I thought it was going to be a silly melodrama about A loves B loves C, but it turned into something deeper. Thanks for yet another gem, Pizza.
Oh what a lovely story. It took me by surprise & made me cry & cry. I do love a happy ending though 🤗 Those Depression times were awful all the way around ☹️ Thank God for good friends !! ❤️💖💝
This is really a cut above. You might need a hanky or two. There were several moments when a character took it to the limit - no matter the role, so often these small-studio films did a top-level job. Very uplifting. Thank you for posting it!
Thanks for sharing this delightful movie. It is a treat to see John Qualen in a non-little guy or Swedish little guy role. And Ann Doran is quite good in this as well.
Yes. Agreed... many of the early sound films are excellent. Character motivation, plot, acting, and music are all just a pleasure to watch. Thank you ,PizzaFlix." Sorry, movies are made for voyeurs to some extent. The plot happened to me. I can relate...😢 Oh ,"pride comth before the fall." And variety too.
Reminded me of Gone With The Wind, how there is one miscommunication right after another. All because people don't have the courage to say what they mean and mean what they say. Do not assume that your lover has any idea what you are talking about because they almost certainly see things very differently than you do. So spell out your point of view very exactly, and don't leave out any key details. Just be as kind as you can, your goal is to improve things, not end them. BTW, the book, Gone With The Wind, was published the same year this movie was released.
I actually found all those missed cues and miscommunications absolutely maddening and almost stopped me from watching the whole thing. lol I was very frustrated with all of them
I find a lot these old dramas start of slow and always after 5-10 minutes it's absolutely great , and I say to myself I was GOING to switch this movie a few minutes ago ! Glad I waited , now I always go edit ten minutes, ❤️🙏🏽🇨🇦
If only every hard-luck story (of the Depression) ended so positively romantic. It's the lolly-popsicle for the 'down and out'. Still, better than nothing, I suppose.
Copyright 1935, in the cast is that wonderful Canadian actor John Qualen, who would be years later in The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and in The Searchers (1956).
Girl: "How's the bank-roll holding out" Guy: "You should speak with more respect about the departed"... lol A few other funnies out of a bunch... "(I) never drink while I'm not working". "May we never get what's coming to us". This is a really fun movie, thanks!!
Donald Cook didn't disappoint in this film. I've seen him in earlier and later movies, and he always comes across well. Erin O'Brien-Moore plays a character strongly similar to 'Freda' in 'Dangerous Corner', 1936, and is coldly selfish and shallow. Douglas Fowley is seen in a role showing his versatility. And Ann Doran comes across as the girl any healthy man would want. Considering that this is by Chesterfield Studios, a 'poverty row' outfit, the plot, settings, and video quality are surprisingly good.
Donald cook, Erin O’Brien Moore and Ann Doran are in this movie 🎥 about a romantically confused news reporter caught in the contrasting love ❤️ affairs of a wealthy debutante and a working class girl! It takes time for him to find out who was the right girl and the ending was good! Ann Doran, who plays Gloria, portrayed James Dean’s mother in rebel without a cause! John qualen was great, too! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I read the book this movie was based upon awhile back.the book was good.i got this movie on dvd recently from alpha video.this is a remarkable movie.the cast is superb.what a surprise to see mary maclaren as the woman who tells gloria she must leave her position.i did not know that mary maclaren was in this movie.imdb does not list this movie in her credits.mary maclaren was a star in silent movies for a few years.she declined in popularity and left the screen a few years before talking pictures came in.she returned to the motion picture industry in the 1930s and played bit parts and minor roles for years thru the 1940s.
ANN DORAN....JAMES DEAN'S MOM IN "REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE"...SHE WAS IN MANY FILMS...DIDN'T KNOW SHE WENT THIS FAR BACK...REMEMBER HER DOING CEREAL COMMERCIALS IN THE EARLY FIFTIES....
Vistula Gibson Cooper : Sharp observation! It looked to me like the same film footage of the baby in his carriage was used more than once. The babbling seemed the same note for note. But it’s the sort of thing that makes me grin and doesn’t spoil the movie at all.
These characters (at least in the first half of the movin picture) all take action before havin full intel, then find out later that it was the wrong action.
Teen life everyone goes through this when he says that on the telephone and with what’s happening 3/4 of the way through this everyone goes through it I’ve been through it at least it wasn’t yeah with maybe I don’t know not quite but someone’s been ripped off one way or another at one time
Well now, >>>> *the HEEL turned HERO and fell in LOVE (For Real and True) with his very own BELOVED angel...the angel found out that he needed her as much as she needed him!!!!!!!........AWWW!!!...I'm a sucker for romantic films and I still believe in TRUE LOVE.......whether society wants to try to twist it...then slay it...LOVE ALWAYS WINS!!!!!!!*
The ending had a twist for me. I so wanted Kate to end up with her man, since they loved each other so much. But what an interesting story. We can't imagine a rich lady ending up malnourished and on the street. The movie was good entertainment.
Prepare me, O Lord, for my future state. Work in me now to teach me Your ways and Your truths. Move me to serve You with joy and determination. I will serve You forever in Heaven and in the Kingdom of God; let me begin that service even now, today. Amen.
Above the cut🍿 appreciate the movie 🍿 may God add years to you and multiply good people in your life 🕊️ which you rich in love and good friends, family 👑 Amen
one of the sweetest old school flicks i ever seen. dang near making me cry. i just love these old movies. this was fantastic
Had me in tears at the end.

Fun to see a platinum Ann Doran cracking wise! She had a very long career in Hollywood.
They do not make movies like this anymore. I loved it.
The characters are adults in adult situations. I can't think of any of the current stars with enough apparent maturity to put over characters like these.
The baby was more than cute . Thx for the download .
The humorous touches are very witty and welcome!
That was a lovely, sweet story. It was just the right escape from the horrible harsh reality of today.
I pray that your day goes better tomorrow.
It is so benign of Hollywood to produce these movin pictures that teach, to us, why we ought never to touch alcohol.
This movie had a great storyline. I am always amazed how they could make movies back then that were barely an hour long and yet they could tell a complete and really entertaining story.
Wow! Almost skipped this gem. One of the best movies ever! Thanks!
Very nice old drama ,thank you so much for the work you put into getting all your great dramas out to old B&W dramas ! God Bless .
How I love happy endings. Thanks for making this gem available on RUclips.
I knew Gloria wasn't so bad! So sad, but a wonderful surprise too. Thanks 😊
The baby stole every scene he was in- he was hilarious! especially in his last scene lol.
I loved the 30s portrayal of a single father. Most films back in the day, if they depicted single parenthood, the focus was always on the mother. This was unique in that respect. And my, he was a sweet dad! 😄 An all around enjoyable film with likeable characters.

Thanks! I really enjoyed this fast paced, snappy patter newspaper man flick!!!

I especially liked the man and his funny baby!
Good story. Good cast. Thanks again PF.
Loved this movie...I'm glad he went back and bought her home back that was so good..❤
"I think you're swell"! :) I enjoyed the movie. Thanks for the upload.
Good Depression era flick. Rags to riches to rags and all that. At first, I thought it was going to be a silly melodrama about A loves B loves C, but it turned into something deeper. Thanks for yet another gem, Pizza.
I thought the same at first but the characters all had more depth than you'd first think as the film went on.
Oh what a lovely story. It took me by surprise & made me cry & cry. I do love a happy ending though 🤗 Those Depression times were awful all the way around ☹️ Thank God for good friends !! ❤️💖💝
Yes, I was surprised, too. I had forgotten how good it is to see a movie with a happy ending.

Beautiful movie..so nice to see compassion for friends going through hard times.
Nice escape from reality. 👍Thank you for this nice sweet movie! 🎥
Just think, that baby is someone"s great grandpa now if he is still living.

I agree about John Qualen.
He is a consummate actor and it's nice to see him in a different role type.

Thank you Pizza Flix this was a good one. Very funny dialog and nice ending.
Love classic movies such as this one!!
Absolutely wonderful!
(and it doesn’t even matter that baby doesn’t age at all!)
I noticed that also!
Great dialog and delivery. I think I'm going to borrow some of those lines.
A plausibly beautiful yarn where all is redeemed.
A tough, old-style newspaper reporter sort of fairytale that ends like a peach!
This was good, thank you.
Excellent film and acting, thank you so much!
Thank You😊
Thank you , thankyou for this!
Thank you so much 4 the movie. It was fantastic

Yup story of my Life.
I think it’s about having too much pride and lack of courage and communication.

It's hard to watch, and since it's supposed to be for entertainment, there's no reason to keep watching after you decide it's annoying.
This was a sweet movie. Grand actors and plot. The baby 'Old Timer" is adorable.

At the engagement party, she asks Ross “Why so 10-20-30?”
Great (old) phrase, I had to look it up. It refers to cheap theatrical productions.
