I only just noticed that Morgan Freeman never makes direct eye contact with John Doe, but only looks and converses with him through the rear view mirror, whilst Brad Pitt tries the face to face confrontation.
"For the rest of what life I have allowed you to have" hahahahhahahaha, I can't just feel like anything else just laughing cause of the scene that comes up...
I was watching the interrogation scene in "The Dark Knight" and everytime I watch it, it reminds me so much of this scene, you see the villain dead to rights yet still get the feeling of them being in control over the situation. It's amazing.
"Only in a world this shitty could you even TRY to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face..." Scary thing is...he does have a point 😥😥😥
@@lordgoro He WAS right....until he murdered Tracy Mills. Then he was shown for the murderous scumbag he truly was all along. He was also a lowly rapist..."I tried to play husband." What do you think that meant? He raped Tracy before he killed her, a completely innocent woman. John Doe was an absolute scumbag.
Just to clear up the murderer’s bad theology: Jesus infamously said, in the cause of sparing a whore who by Jewish law was legally *required* to be stoned: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Meaning all Humans sin on some level, and therefore none have the real authority to judge one another as far as killing one another. The murderer later admits he was envious, and besides his murders which were already sinful in of themselves, it could be said that the murderer’s sin prior to his murders was envy. Or something else even more trivial and inconsequential. The fact being though that it is impossible he was without sin before casting the first stone. Of course this is a very literal interpretation of Jesus’ original teaching but the point is if the fool had actually read his Bible he’d have been spiritually convicted to be a much more forgiving and tolerant person.
Freeman doesn't have the theological belief. Being a detective over the years seeing horrible thing after the next shows how bad the world is. This man must have lost his as well. With all the bullshit he saw in the world, he knew the world was rotten just as Freeman. He gave up on this world. Not necessarily a contradiction.
@@christopherbownes494 What's ironic though is that The Bible itself supports Freeman's view of a world itself tainted in some form or another by sin, however great or little it might be for a person, it's always still there. The difference is that the Bible actually gives a solution to that problem.
@@emarceeqem4715 what is the solution to that problem? Indifference as we all have committed sin? Isn't that John Doe's point? He's sick of people being indifferent?
@@christopherbownes494 Well, to put it bluntly, turning to a higher power, and working tirelessly to improve oneself and to resist the temptation to do wrong. In other words. Even if the world is corrupt, you can find salvation by being repentant and choosing to live a better life.
@@emarceeqem4715 We are much like Sisyphus. Endlessly pushing a boulder up a hill, only to see it tumble back down. This is our lives. There's no point in improving oneself in a world that's so shitty. The bar scene with Pitt and Freeman really speaks to me. Freeman becomes apathetic. He says he wants out because this world is rotten. Pitt says he's gunna keep fighting. He doesn't care. His wife ends up dead while nothing bad happens to Freeman. Improving ones position in life and continually striving only sets you up for bigger falls. The one thing I don't understand is why Freeman at the end, says the world is worth fighting for. Why? He hasn't changed his position on the world being garbage. So what is his incentive for pushing forward now?
Nothing. Her death, caused by John Doe, marks his deadly sin - envy. He admits in the end that he envied Mill's simple life and so he murders his wife, knowing Mill would fulfill the final deadly sin, wrath, to complete his "work".
