House's Therapist is easily my favourite character in the show. An intellectual equal in a field House isn't an expert in that can verbally spar with him and not only keep up, but also keep ahead. Outstanding performance from Andre Braugher. (RIP)
I wish the show had ended with this season. You knew given their way the writers would never let him have what he wanted in the end. The cases over the last few seasons were very interesting but I didn't like where they brought House.
Gotta love how people can't even have an observation anymore without someone making fun of them. Because yes: Despite the observation being obvious, there's still no reason to make fun of it.
Calling it an observation is a stretch, they took what the (I am assuming) therapist said word for word. That's what people are making fun of, imagine if everyone just commented the very sentence of a video.
Yes, but in reality, they never do. They are brainwashed with self-deception. And none of them have ever helped anyone but themselves financially, temporarily.😂
I think many people forget the offensive, ableist connotations of L**E when it is used to mean "pathetic", "unworthy", or "pitiful". There are other words that don't disparage disabled people to mean "poor" or "ridiculous", "miserable"; 'crappy", "cheap", or "third-rate". @@DSBCode Plus, even being clean for 18 years, I still have my addict brain that I was born with and I still turn everything up to eleven. Not with drugs but everything else. Don't ask me to make a pot of coffee because it will be so strong that you can't drink it. If it says take 2 Advil, 6 sounds better to me. If you aren't an addict you can never understand.
The whole of season six is a great season but the first half until house quits therapy is really where we can see a new house that is more balanced clean person without compromising the core character of house
Addiction is confusing by nature. Your brain is messed with so much that when you try to quit, you think that everything in your life COULD have been a trigger. Therapists will often let you explore this because often a change in your life is a great way to exercise that new free will to help you make decisions rather than fall on habits. However, addiction drives you to want to go back to normalcy, to maintain homeostasis. So you often desire to go back to what your life was like and are afraid to do so at the same time. The key here is to remember 3 things: secrecy breeds relapse, being alone will breed depression, and denial of what you want to do will perpetuate self deception. You must be honest with yourself, trust others will be willing to support you regardless of your falls and faults, and be open to sharing when you are tempted and when you fall. For those supporting those with addiction, its important for you to remind those in addiction that you will not shame them for falling. That you will not treat them differently just because they had a relapse, and that the sooner they tell you about it, the better the experience will be (with a caveat that even if they wait to tell you, you will still celebrate that you told them). Everybody in recovery has the potential to relapse and its not a reflection on their overall commitment, but rather the reality that quitting is hard and they have never truly done it before. Even if they have stopped before, there are things they will experience in each recovery that they hadn't before because life changes so much, from day to day, from hour to hour, and sometimes from second to second. The habitual need to escape, to feel ok, to feel the release... its important to know that this desire is not evil. The actions they take are unhealthy and if left unchecked will harm not only themselves but others, but that will NEVER be the reason somebody fully quits. A person in recovery must learn to face reality and that takes baby steps in order for them to trust that each step they take is not going to hurt them more than they can bare. It won't last forever, but it will last as long as it takes and that's ok. They will continue to grow as a person and they will change into something else multiple times... just like everybody else. So make it clear every day that they can confide in you, that you will not leave them, that you are committed to facing this reality just as much as they need to be.
“Relapse is part of recovery but I have limited personal bandwidth for watching you break, and my health and safety will come first. Plan accordingly.”
This season was amazing honestly. The deconstruction and development of House's character made this the best season when binging the series during Covid. I really dislike season 8 because it set back all the development and drama to have old House back.
Maybe. But it's also realistic. When it comes to addiction, relapse is extremely easy. House beating his addiction just because he tried really hard was a little too one-note for his character. I don't think this season was meant to show House's redemption. It was exploring what motivates the best Diagnostician in the world. Narcissism, addiction, lies and pain are all core parts of his character. And this season shows us that while removing these things makes life better for House as a person, it ultimately obliterates the character the show has been built on the back of. We can have small lulls in certain aspects of these flaws, but the removal of them spells the end of the show. You can't have a show about House if he overcomes his struggles, because the struggle is what drives his character. Which explains why the show only lasted a couple of more seasons after this. This arc really lifted the veil of mystery surrounding his character and it left little room to continue exploring who he is.
Like a lot of my favorite shows, I just pretend that this season's finale was actually the series finale. Did the same thing with Castle season 7 instead of season 8. I considered doing it with Elementary's final full length season....but I really like some of the episodes from the shortened final season.
@@JasonJones1162 Actually, a lot of people consider House leaving the psychiatric hospital the true ending of the show, even though the ending of season 8 was also really good, it's everything that happens between season 7 and the ending of season 8 that sucks.
