I disagree. There are plenty of psychological thrills out there that I think are better than this. Also many crime movies that have better commentary on real social issues which I find to be more important.

there is something i never realized until today when it clicked. one more aspect of what made training day such a masterpiece was it's turning the the premise of "two detectives, one rookie one veteran" from this masterpiece on it's head, giving it a polar opposite end result

Wrath dying doesn't exactly fit, rather the death of his wife and him killing in a rage is. Besides, death wasn't a requirement. Sloth survived, Pride had the option to survive, albeit maimed. John Doe just had to take away/punish each sin (even his own as Envy).

Upon watching this movie for the first time, I believed the killer did not actually kill the wife and it was all a trick to get the young detective to finish his plan in an effort to show how wrath is a double-edged sword that dulls the brain to logic and reason. After killing him, he would look in the box and realize the head was just a good fake and that his wife was safe at home.

Also, the serial killer is smart enough to trick the police at every turn but couldn't make a convincing decapitated head? Once the final scene ended, I realized I was wrong but still thought it would have been an interesting way to end it. The best villains are always the ones that make the most sense, but with the ending we got, I don't think it was all that great because there was no real point or meaning behind the killings other than... he crazy 😂

This movie is good to the point that i enjoyed every single scene. I mean the light, the ambience is the definition of suspense, just like " The Bone Collector" and "Heat". Regarding this gender (gory), Joker is the one that stands out for me.
