I love exploring Shrewsbury. This is one of the walks I do. You have unravelled a few of the many questions in my inquisitive mind. This was excellent.
Interesting, I was born in Salop and played darts for the Prince of Wales pub, played in all the pubs. I had an uncle who lived in North Street, across the road from the pub and down from the canal tavern. Happy days
Brilliant video. Watched every minute. So many memories: My grandad (Glyn Wills) used to drink in the Dog and the telegraph. I used to knock off a bird (Angela) that lived in a big house right next to the telegraph! Also, those steps at the back of the New Park Road housing estate where the old bowling green pub was.... I've not seen those steps for 40 years! You were standing right outside, in fact may have been leaning on the wall of my uncle and auntie's house! Me and my cousins would play hop skip and jump on those steps and draw with chalk! That would be nearly 45 years ago! Wow!
In Severn Street the tallest house was the Plough pub the one that has the ground floor painted yellow in your video (number 45). It had huge bay windows that came out onto the street (you can see the little walls where they came to). These were still there when our family lived there and you could just make out the pub name on the window. Enjoyed the video by the way, very nostalgic 😊.
I used to drink in the Dog and pheasant circa 1974-75. They had an electronic organ and after closing time a few of us stayed behind and I played the organ and drank quite a few pints. I loved the place but had no idea of the history which you have provided. OYou brought back memories.
Recollections like these really do add to the film so thank you for taking the time to recount. Do you remember if the landlord was the chap we showed in the photo?
@@thirdratecontent585 i' don't think so; I was friends with a lady who served in The Yorkshire House. Her name was Norma and on her days off she would go to The Dof and Pheasant with her husband who flew DC 3s in WWII, Sadly he died of cardiac disease. We used to kick on there until 2.00am. It was great fun.
Cracking video Dan my younger brother lives right at the end in a three story house of seven street lovely houses and the dog pub never knew it was still running wow , 1987 I think was the last time I sat in there lol keep up the good work superb history I never knew👍 phil
I used to hang around Castlefields a lot in my teens. If you did a paper round from the post office did you know Doreen Ashley? I used to kick about with her son. Small world. These videos are great mate, really appreciate them. Found the Dog and Pheasant nookie tokens absolutely fascinating! Keep up the great work.
@@thirdratecontent585 looking forward to The Dana video whenever you get round to it. Never been there myself which is a real shame (as a visitor or a prisoner I mean haha). Proper piece of Victorian history. I was under the impression it was getting turned into flats at some point? All subbed and notification bell on. 🔔👍 All the best buddy.
I wondered if you could do a show on live music in the pubs. A friend of mine who lives Shrewsbury says there seems to be a lot of live music an open mic venues. I would love to learn more about that. Thank you.
Enjoyed this! It’s one of my favourite areas of Shrewsbury as it’s so close to the river! The pub looks quite nice actually, I might have to take a trip! 😊😊

Great pub!
I attended services at that Church (All Saints?) It was High Anglican- Anglo Catholic and the priests were more Roman than the Pope.
Interesting information John thank you for contributing
