    Personally I think art has exhausted itself, speaking as someone who went to Shrewsbury Art School from 73 to 76. All of that 'modern' art could have been done 100 years ago when it had real shock value and wasn't used as happy-clappy decoration as it is today. It's just a way of living off Arts Council Grant money imho. There! You've set me off on one now! Naughty Mr.ThirdRate!! 🙂

    Until April 2024, my 'family' home had been Colemere. My father's grave could just be seen in your video. As you looked across the fields towards the end of the programme, one of the wet pastures was said to have been bombed during WWII, and there were several quite large indentations in the bog. As we moved to Colemere in 1961, only 16 years after the War, the story is probably true.

    how often does shrewbury flood generally speaking and how badly does it effect the main parts of the town centre like around Pride Hill shopping centre? ive been considering moving to shrewsbury but only thing that stops me is alot of flats and stuff like that in the town centre are normally in the parts where it does flood

    • @thirdratecontent585
      @thirdratecontent585 6 дней назад

      I would say it’s a tiny single digit percentage of Shrewsbury that actually gets flooded. The worst hit areas are all low lieing. The parts of Frankwell near the river are usually effected like wise St Jullians Friers and Ravens meadows. Pride Hill and all the main streets don’t get flooded because they lie on the top of two hills. The disruption to roads can be fairly severe 👍

    I dont know where Wats Dyke starts or finishes. I do know it runs through part of Oswestry near the Old Oswestry Hillfort. It is also around Morda, running near EreWen and The Terraces . I went to Morda Primary school after we left Meifod and recall mediaeval pennies being found by kids in Ere Wen. It was all fields from back lanes from Morda to Oswestry, past an old water mill. There was another water mill in the centre of Morda near the Brook, which was swampy and overgrown and ancient in its ambience. Im referring to the early 1960s. The whole area swapped polities between Welsh princes and Saxons Just near Morda is Nant y cws. There are hills there and old earthworks , greenways and overgrown mining works, clay pits now flooded from the early Industrial. Revolution Gobowen is a fractured settlement , cut up by railways and other development, its decentralised. Morda is another example of a village localised integrity. The Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital is outside Gobowen and was a teaching hospital with many international student surgeons.

    Massive thanks Third Rate Content, I visited Halston Hall Hospitaller Chapel, and Earthworks, then Whittington Castle, only paid for the car park £2, and then as you showed the history of Oswestry, I photographed the old timber framed buildings, went up the medieval motte, saw the guildhall, and wow the church, sadly only outside, but what a robust massive stronghold that is a church tower!!! I grew up in hodnet and my mum and dad still live at the top of the village. I remember playing out with my mates and people from all over would come to the church even back in the late 90s. I remember three men once who were in the church yard and they asked us if we knew anyway to get into the church from the underground via the bear pub. Apparently there's catacombs or a tunnel that link the bear pub with the church.

      @@thirdratecontent585 Nah. A few kids say they found there way in but reckon they were having us on. Apparently there used to be a way in through the hundred house at the top of the hill as well. My mate used to live there and we could never find anything that looked like a way into it. If it was ever true it has probably been lost to time now. My mum reckons it was an escape passage for priests who were being persecuted back in the day but who knows. It was an interesting place to grow up.
