Stunning Hi Res video and really good editing. I just had to keep pausing to admire the scene. World class. Thank you for this wonderfull video. You'r best yet. History is awesome and captured here.
Always wanted to visit Richards Castle. Summer comes sooner to Hereford than Shropshire. The Marches are so full of heritage refuges, that plug the canny explorer directly into the so called past. Ireland and Cornwall are similar. Parts of Tasmania as well. Churches often represent powerful Theocracy. Always full of stern commands and humiliated sinners. Though I'm glad you felt it serene. I like overgrown churchyards and yew trees. I like the footworn stone steps and the handworn doors.
Being in these places is like walking through the ages. I can imagine many things happening here. Medieval churches in summer can have a serene atmosphere, tho it’s always at the back of my mind when exploring, that there would’ve been a kind of serenity when the Black Death was visiting (in the summer months) and the church bell could toll no more. Thank you for this stimulating comment 👍
Cornwall. I lived near a village called Luxulyan, I suppose it is not that remarkable but an old oak tree, hundreds of years old has grown over a a churchyard wall..! The wall was there first..! Little things we do not see in New Zealand where i live now. I love these "walkabout" videos.
I'm certainly not correcting you Dan but I always thought that Richard's Castle was in Shropshire! On investigation I find that the boundary cuts through 2 parishes one in Hereford and the other in Shropshire. Whilst spatially the Hereford Richard's Castle is larger, by population the Shropshire one is bigger. The Castle is in Hereford and the Church in Shropshire.
All Saints Church (Victorian) is in Shropshire, while Saint Bartholomew’s (Medieval) is in Herefordshire. The castle is right next door to Saint Bartholomews. I should’ve explained this in the vid, 😂however I do on the next video. Richard’s castle does feel disconnected as a village, as All Saints seems to be quite a distance from Saint Barholomews. Thanks for the thought provoking comment. 👍
