A year after the mysterious disappearance of their 8 year-old daughter, grieving Olivia and Ray return home with friends and family from her memorial service in their small town. Suddenly strange lights appear in the nearby forest and everyone is exposed to inexplicable phenomena shaking them all to the core. The origin of these weird incidents seems to be visitors from another world intent on terrorising the family. But what they don’t realise is that these visitors will eventually lead them to an unexpectedly dark and disturbing truth - one destined to impact on their lives forever.

I just watched this. Literally half the film is directly copied from Close Encounters, ET, or Poltergeist. This film wants to crawl up Spielberg's ass so badly, I'm surprised they didn't put a Saving Private Ryan battle scene in there just because.

Potentially good movie ruined in the execution. Waaaay too much copying Spielberg. Waaaay too much "characters stand staring at scary alien stuff with scared expressions but don't actually do anything". Seriously not one character has any kind of growth or change, not one has any kind of character arc, not one has any kind of effect on the events of the movie. Every single character is there to just watch what's happening and look scared or awestruck by it.
Shame, because the "twist" is a good idea and could have made for an interesting film. And even more of a shame because this is very competently made on the technical front. They had money and talent at work here, and it's such a shame to see it come to basically nothing.
How much change is a character supposed to go through over the course of one day?

This film is cinema worthy. Was totally mesmerized by it. Utter brilliance.
The ending was incredible and really profound, so much more impact than every other "alien" type movie I have ever seen

This movie took me by surprise. I was prepared for a classic alien movie with action scenes but it was something completely different altogether. Very unique twist on the alien trope. Loved it.

This film is pathetic I've no idea what the people who said it was brilliant seen, poor story line nothing captivating about the characters Not scary and all just stupid, after an hour I'm done watching it.

It somewhat has the vibe of The Lovely Bones, mixed beautifully with The Sign. If you liked both the same, you are bound to thoroughly enjoy this one.

The movie was outstanding until the 3/4 mark then the story abruptly changes. It's like the writer was way past deadline, panicked and copy/pasted in the last part of a trauma drama.

Well, it's too bad that the Media has brainwashed this current so called Marvel/ DC fan generation. So much so that they don't even realize what's good cinema anymore. Why don't u go back watching those so called cheezy & gimmicky commercial/ mainstream Horror/ Sci-Fi films like Star Trek or maybe Aliens Vs Predator. Sheesh!

Pretty good movie, but I felt it was draaaaGGING a lot of times. I think the director must be very very fond of looks of confusion on his actors faces accompanied with dramatic music because that was 2/3 of the scenes in the whole movie…It was supposed to be scary and suspenseful right? But to me it was just annoying and brought me out of the story. But other than that, it was an interesting story, plot and twist and the family drama was spot on, I cared a lot about all the characters.

..meets Interstellar. The peering back into time part. Literally the exact same as Matthew McConaughey yelling through the bookcase at his daughter.
The takeaway of this movie for me is - the encounter of higher being unite humanity with profound equanimity.
Sadly there will always be some people whom may never get it, in this lifetime...

I've never known a movie to move so slow, it gives you a strong want to play with your phone or pet and even if you did you wouldn't miss anything, it would literally still be on the same frame if you left to make a sandwich
This is why I always have a fidget spinner with me at all times. This got me through multiple movies, dates, job interviews, vacations and even my wedding.

This movie is absolutely incredible. A hidden masterpiece.
Think about it, if you had some highly advance technology you'd most likely want to have fun with it and if you come from another planet and are curious about a species that is somewhat inferior to you, then you'd most likely want to see what their made of just for the hell of it. You don't have to special, or hold some significant for them to abduct you and experiment on you. Maybe the Grays once encountered us when we were still monkeys and we evolved and now they want to what's different in us. If The Grays have all these technological resources at their disposal and see us humans as merely guinea pigs/labrats, then I love the idea that we should remain alone in the universe.

Watched this with family tonight. Aside from some less than great acting and dialog it was a really cool movie. The aliens remind me a lot of the ones in the film Knowing with Nicolas Cage, basically acting as angels in both films.
STUPID...STUPID...STUPID...dnt waste ur time. Everything you see in the trailer, is everything that happens.
wow this film was such a hidden gems, the music, shots, ambiance all perfect it feel much different than recent blockbuster
The story is sad but also unique in the way it makes you think differently about aliens and (h)umans. The filming locations and VFX are perfect for its vibe. I would have directed it differently with a more signature soundtrack, but overall it's worth wathcing. I think many can agree, the cinematographer is telling the story and not the director.
Watching this now. It has a good feel and is high budget (except the alien crafts) and all but come on, no ideas. It is a mashup of other films 🤣 first bit is exactly like encounters of the third kind, then it is ripped from signs, then on to dark skies and that’s the first half hour. no reason for the people in this film to have guns, one of them a pathetic cop and all scared of everything when they are not limited 😂 like come on I doubt they can take a shotgun. I can see why it got 24% on rotten tomatoes from the viewers and 75% from the pc idiot reviewers. It even copies the basement bit from signs and Using the knife to see the alien 🤣 then the alien reflection in the photo in the living room like wtaf. The young lads weapon of choice against the alien? Baseball bat 😂 Then the same hallway scene from dark skies with the kid attracted to the aliens followed by the same shooting the door ffs. This is a rip off of dark skies and signs but the aliens use smoke grenades. This is a hilarious at this point. Honestly I have no idea what the other comments are about but maybe they haven’t seen dark skies or signs. Even so, there’s no excuse for the low budget on the ufos, just lights and has cheesy music that implies this is an adventure film for the young ones. The aliens themselves didn’t look good either. Don’t waste your time, the reviews are accurate. I love alien films but this is 😂

It's interesting how the end of the film shows how small we are to the aliens, as small as atoms and how insignificant we seem, yet interesting to the aliens, otherwise they wouldn't come to Earth and make contact with us.
So, humans can't figure out for themselves that the people that we love and trust the most are the ones that will and do hurt us the most? It really takes aliens to teach us that? hmmm...
Sooo... what if the aliens in Close encounters of the third kind - were assholes?
The other question, of course, is why there is no film called The Light Encounter.
