      @@rosepole7554 Hmmm…Exactly “which” older people?
      If ANYTHING Isabel Wilkerson’s books “Warmth of Other Suns” & “Caste” have shown is Northern America (especially the US) has a social value structure that is horrific (right now while the lights are on, and the water’s running) for those deemed at the bottom.
      It will be * *dystopian X’s 10* * all ways round-more so for them.
      Not to mention the ageism to boot.
      This was a Canadian production, and their social ranking system is not so dissimilar from the US. This movie (and IRL) show how dreadful a homogenous group of people will devolve to survive.

      @user-gh9il4le9d Same age, same sentiments.
      We’re left with the “feel-good” ending of a teen & parent reuniting.
      Conveniently we’re forgetting “Gran” was the first to go-with the movie only hinting at the physical/mental discomforts this person endured before dying-plus the death was (possibly) exacerbated by or being in proximity to the EMP event-let alone if medications were needed to survive.
      We have created an unsustainable system on multiple fronts.
      As humans we have adapted quite readily to the ease of our current environment, and possess little to no skills of survival, nor resiliency.
      The older I get, the less I want to be around for any form of “calamity/apocalypse”, let alone the aftermath.

And for those of you who don't know.....the reason the old Impala will still run (even though the battery would have been dead by then) is because the car doesn't have a computer and other electronics to make it run (like newer cars do). if you have an older car or truck, hang on to it just in case. ;-)

    • @PeterLawton
      @PeterLawton Год назад +3

      Why and how do you think it's going to be worse? My guess is it will be due to the high concentration of population in cities. The sheer numbers there, coupled with lack of prep (mainly food storage and water back up plan), will likely lead to death of that majority. Many will flee the cities, but, again, without a plan. For rural people, it won't be desperate as quickly, because of so many gardens already routinely planted.
      The Great Depression serves as a precedent: city people were most desperate and country people fared comparatively well -- many country children didn't even notice a difference.

We see it only in microcosm, and are left to imagine how badly things must be in society at large. Not many people would be as resilient and well-prepared as the protagonists. Several comments have been made about creating a film from the fabulous book One Second After, which gives a bigger, more detailed view about how such a scenario might play out on a larger scale. YT has tons of movies, you have to dig to find a really good one. Like E.M.P, which is about the fall and decline of civilization. A quiet tragedy (with some pretty harrowing moments), beautifully filmed and acted.

      Thank you! Someone gets it! As a teenage girl I'm tired of unnecessary sex scenes! It doesn't further the plot at all! I watch movies with teenage/young adult characters from the 70s-90s on youtube sometimes, they were able to make their point without weird sex scenes. If there was a sex scene they lightly implied it and we didn't see it. Nowadays it's like they're trying to expose sex to younger kids on teen shows so they can become addicted. It's unfortunate.

    What a fantastic film.... I loved it. Treamendous production values and some wonderful, wonderful acting - from all, but especially Rosa and Liam. I found that it took 3 years to make; and with young people of their age you can see how they were 'growing up' faster than the film timeline. But an utterly charming and, in many ways, a totally innocent portrayal. Dad was lovely too!! Proverbs 27:12

      Pretty much how I envision something like that, yeah. It's about what I was expecting, so, pretty realistic. Surprisingly, yes, kids can do o.k., with the right group. There was a bunch of boys in a story here on RUclips I heard not long ago, who went to an island far out, somewhere in the South Pacific, Polynesia. And they got stranded on an island when the weather got rough. And lo and behold, it didn't turn into Lord of the Flies or anything, lol. The kids did quite well. Built a gym even, that's how above and beyond, they made their settlement, eventually. They had been missing many months and were assumed dead.
      The rescuers were totally impressed at how they had created their own highly functional system/society. Even with justice and they handled that well too. Punishments were dolled out, that fit the indiscretion, but not excessive or violent. And any fights were solved, by simply taking a good long time out, walk away. Everyone had a job/role, just like she said in the movie when she got to the settlement. They said, that in order to survive, they had to work together, peacefully. Smart kids, because even the adults who found them were totally impressed.

      1st, she hesitated to shoot the bad guy. That gave him the opportunity to grab the gun out of her hands and use it on her... The 2nd mistake she made, was she kept walking out in the open. She should have stayed off the road, but close by the road, and hidden behind bushes, tall grass and trees...
      The 2 mistakes the boy made, was 1st, he should have hidden the car off and away from the road, and hidden it in the bushes. The 2nd mistake he made, was staying behind, and separating from the girl. He should have stayed with her, and both of them leave the house together. Haul butt out of there.

      Read quite a lot of comments.Hope this helps : Kids need to learn how to wash clothes and have a bath with little water. Especially washing underwear etc. while on the move with little water and preferably with a bar of soap. Sponging oneself with a towel, a big mug of water and half a cap of Dettol keeps you clean while on the move or confined to last out a few tough weeks. An an Onion or an inch of ginger rubbed into long hair an hour before washing goes a long way in keeping hair clean and repels insects in the wild if you don't have shampoos. If they learn how to make Charcoal and use that in combination with sawdust and ash they can survive winter. Wood fires can attract unwanted people via smoke and flames. Charcoal fires last longer and little smoke.Slaughtering, Skinning and gutting a chicken or a goat are important life saving skills. Fishing too.

Ever since I found out what really happened during the 1860's civil war I see the world a whole lot different. I remember pay phones and nobody had cell phones. I now have the chance to kind of relive the 80's.

      I recall, as a boy, we had a family living in our street that didn't struggle as much as the rest of us.
      They had the first car, land-line, tv (then colour tv), etc.
      Nice folk.
      One of the two boys was my classmate.
      Me, I prefer living with tech, but can just as easily get by without it, as it always seemed a wise precaution, ie, don't get too comfortable.
      If S _did_ HTF, I'd get by comfortably.
      My guess is the vast majority, sadly, wouldn't.

    This was a delightful surprise!! I consider myself a tough audience. Bad acting & a crappy script will get your movie ended not much past the 5 minute mark. The lead actress was absolutely perfect. The actor who played her friend Will wasn't bad either. The look on her "dad's" face at the end looked like genuine joy. Whomever was responsible for the script knows a couple things about survival. The water would be done b4 day 7 but as far as making it those 1st few months, say to day 150 or so, it would be absolutely vital to stay inside & hide out. A few more flashbacks of her father teaching her some survival info would be nice but then again they might've overwhelmed things & it all turned out beautifully. Don't fix it if it's not broke!😊
    Well done to all the cast & crew! Y'all have done far better than many Hollywood films w/ enormous budgets!

      A single or several EMPs were mooted, back in the day.
      It was just one more potential disaster to add to the list, but it has been elevated in the public mind over the last decade, due to rapid advancement in technology.

    Watching a young girl forced to eat worms to survive while imagining it being pasta is enough to piss me off to the point where we gotta stop the evil elites and their puppet politicians. I have a 7 year old who knows how to safely handle and operate numerous platforms of firearms. She knows how to skin and process a deer and fish. She helps me garden in the spring as well as helps me with projects around the house as well as working on vehicles. Realization is a concept that is hard to believe. What also is hard to believe is how desparate people can become either good or evil. What is really interesting is that most people will succumb to EMP because they give up on the will to overcome and live. Some can't because of circumstances. Most because they quit. If you don't reach down and grab a pair you might as well as rollover and be taken.
