    An interesting post published a few days after releasing the video: www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/194tkjz/fsrs_is_not_better_than_supermemo_or_why_you/

    My take is a bit weird on all this: I simply don't care about learning method anymore. For me it's now all applying--even during the learning process. I still create items during IR, but much less frequent than when I got into SRS. I spent my most learning hours writing stuff, because I want to. I review my items occacionally, when I feel like it--I really don't care if my retention is low (btw it's still at ~83%, despite my indifferent mindset).
    All this is freeing somehow. I spent the free hours of my day practicing the piano, take long walks outdoors while listening to podcasts, and focusing on my "zen" collection. I guess somehow I feel reviewing items is not an organic way to review, expressing the concept in your own way is. Still, if I find doing cards pleasurable, I do it. No more rules. Only learn drive prevails.

      also my "zen" collection is pretty much a zettelkasten

      Applying while writing is what would count as a repetition. More implicitly, more creatively, more organically than doing items. In that sense, the scheduling for items is negligible indeed.

      I've completely stopped ever looking at the Ctrl-W calendar after I'd developed a huge disdain for SuperMemo about a month ago due to forcing myself to use it everyday.

      I never check that, the last time I did was during a video recording :)

    I sent them an email on oct 28 related to my licence. They answered yesterday. It's no way to run a business.

      Sadly that bas been always the case, so an awful customer service is not the reason people move on but rather one of the reasons people don't use it enough at the beginning and never get the hang of Incremental Reading.

    I also moved on since I moved to a Mac and didn’t want to setup everything again in a VM. I still think about building some kind of incremental reading/writing/learning software in the future, since nothing does it like supermemo and there’s a special magic to it.

    • @PleasurableLearning

      Did you convert or exported your collection to a different app?

    • @iulspop
      @iulspop 8 месяцев назад

      @@PleasurableLearning no, since the export didn't include item repetitions, I didn't bother. I started fresh in Remnote

    • @PleasurableLearning
      @PleasurableLearning  7 месяцев назад

      Ouch! I did a simple convertor with Python to get the media files and repetitions, with some adjustments to fit the anki format. I converted the English collection 2018 to anki. I have a video on that from 2022. I am review the cards in Anki since then.

    I tried to find an adequate and equally convenient replacement for the incremental reading process, as in SM, but I could not. Although it would seem that I want the banal in the application: taking notes; some algorithm that will give it for repeated review after a while; decomposition of the note; the ability to convert a note into a card for repetition; support for PDF and EPUB; work in WIndows, Mac, Linux; synchronization through common cloud storage. And in the end, everything turns into a multi-stage pain and fear that "tomorrow you won't be able to use windows and then what to do."

      Yeah the IR is really one of a kind. Accept no substitutes

    • @PleasurableLearning
      @PleasurableLearning  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, that is why people who mov eon usually replace the SM flow with multiple apps. About the fear to be locked-in, you can always export your entire collection. I actually moved my English collection to Anki keping the media files and repetition history (with some convention needed as it is not 1:1 equivalency of stats).

    How is remNotes incremental everything (added via a plugin) feature compared to supermemo?

    • @PleasurableLearning
      @PleasurableLearning  8 месяцев назад +1

      It's developed by James who is (or has been) a SuperMemo user. The approach is to mimic the features but Remnote is fundamentally different and hence the result is heuristic. I haven't used it personally, and based on the documenation is enough to know it does not satisfy the minimum definition of incremental reading accourding to its creator supermemo.guru/wiki/Minimum_definition_of_incremental_reading

      Some pleople usie wine and similar tools but images, sounds, videos etc does not work at all. You have more details in this page supermemopedia.com/wiki/SuperMemo_for_Linux

    The war is over.
    We lost.
    Even I, have moved all my items back to Anki.
    Sure + 1 year is a bit dodgy on FSRS but whatevs.
    I only use SuperMemo for incremental reading then move items to Anki.

    • @PleasurableLearning
      @PleasurableLearning  8 месяцев назад +1

      You were fast to comment :) Interesting flow. DO you export and import via file? Have you considered a fancier way to transfer cards to Anki? for instance by using AnkiConnect add-on?

    • @LukeAvedon
      @LukeAvedon 8 месяцев назад

      @@PleasurableLearning Its because I am a super fan! Yeah, I was doing that before - but manually copying it to Anki forces me to slow down and really make sure I'm making good items. So the workflow works for me. One day I will remake incremental reading inside neovim and then my life will be complete.
