It was built by a race called the Mazemakers but later conquered by Valyria. Jaqen H’gar was likely someone from there who was killed by the faceless men and his face was used by this assassin, either that or this really was his true self which I kind of doubt.

Please do more of this, (truly) full stories are more satisfying and interesting than starting one and then finishing half-way without ever touching it again. I'm not sure it's his honor that would push him. I think it's more his devotion to Death. He's basically a cleric, a priest, and he worships Death. Death demands a sacrifice. He has to pay it. He knows he's going to die, eventually, anyway. And when it's his time, he just hopes he goes easy. If he has to do himself, he'll make it easy. Doesn't mean he WANTS it, though. But then again, doing or giving what you don't want is the nature of sacrifice. I agree, though. He's been sizing her up as one of them, from the beginning. And this is when he decided, "Once we're out of here, I'm giving her a coin. She's got the right stuff."

I think Arya has become my favorite character. She is strong, determined, intelligent and unswerving in her quest.
