A friend brought this over to my house back in March 1994. When he left I begged my parents to get it for me as I was a huge Mega Man fan. I got it that summer and played it nonstop.
I’ve started a small tradition where I listen to this as I’m starting out my day, eating breakfast and whatnot. Makes it feel the different things I could tend to that day are different stages to pick from. It’s honestly amazing how much momentum such a repetitive theme has. One simple melody on repeat with a drum beat that comes in after a bit, and that’s it. Any other track like this would drive me insane, but I’m several minutes of listening in and have barely noticed.
i think the same. if you ever see someone running on the side of the road pointing their arm like an arm cannon while jogging intensely its me listening to highway level theme@@elka-nato
Remember the boss order, items, and Dr. Light capsules! Chill Penguin - Fire Wave/X Buster - Leg Enhancement - Life Up Spark Mandrill - Shotgun Ice - Life Up - Sub-Tank #1 Armored Armadillo - Electric Spark - Hadouken - Life Up - Sub-Tank #2 Launch Octopus - Rolling Shield - Life Up Boomer Kuwanger - Homing Torpedo - Life Up Sting Chameleon - Boomerang Cutter - Body Enhancement - Life Up Storm Eagle - Chameleon Sting - Helmet Enhancement - Life Up - Sub-Tank #3 Flame Mammoth - Storm Tornado - X Buster Enhancement - Life Up - Sub-Tank #4
This is the order I tend to go in. 1 - Chill Penguin - Leg upgrade 2 - Storm Eagle - Heart tank, Sub Tank, Head upgrade 3 - Flame Mammoth - Heart Tank, Sub Tank, Buster Upgrade 4 - Boomer Kuwanger - Heart Tank 5 - Spark Mandril - Heart Tank, Subtank 6 - Launch Octopus - Heart Tank 7 - Sting Chameleon - Armor Upgrade and Heart Tank 8 - Armored Armadillo - Heart Tank, Sub Tank 9 - Revisit Penguin's stage and use the Fire Wave to get the Heart Tank then exit. 10 - Revisit Armadillo's stage, Grind to fill subtanks and hearts from the bats at the beginning of the stage, jump off the cliff with the health capsule at the end five times with full health, go to the cliff for a sixth time to get the secret capsule, then exit. Boom. Now I'm ready to move on to Sigma Stages.
The order I’ve always gone is chill penguin, storm eagle, flame mammoth, spark mandrill, armored armadillo, launch octopus, boomer kuwanger, sting chameleon. There’s a tiny bit of back tracking in that order, the only stages I end up going to twice are chill penguin boomer kuwanger and armadillo, but they’re easy as hell, nowhere near as bad as the back tracking in X3.
Idk why but Spark Mandrill’s mugshot scared me the most as a kid. Just this mechanical monster practically staring you down as if you’re nothing to him, and to be fair without shotgun ice yeah he’s terrifying.
The amount of details in mmx's stage select...the small bios on each maverick, the map showing the stage's locations in relation to one another-none of it feels required, but it's definitely one of the things that makes this my favorite megaman game!
Best boss stage select theme ever!! You don’t get awesome sounding themes like this anymore. Makes you really feel like your back in 1993-1994, great times!!! 😆
1 - 4 are the best mmx games imho. One of the best series too imo. And definitely my favorite video game characters (X, Zero) along with mega man himself.
When your pain in the ass girlfriend begs you to run errands before her entire family from Indonesia comes to visit, and you’re at the stage select screen wondering which direction you’re going first.
I remember playing this on my Wii when I was about 2010-11 at 12 yo, I struggled beating each level at a young age so a lot of my time was spent here hyping myself for another run lol
Storm Eagle is first. That's the first boss I was able to beat as a kid. And sting Chameleon is the hardest boss. In this order he is last and you are fully prepared for him.
AMEN. I recently played through this game for the first time in YEARS and I went for Storm Eagle first after getting the Dash Boots in Chill Penguin's stage, mainly because of the Storm Tornado. That weapon is the BEST weapon in the entire game, and it majorly helps against certain minibosses like the one in Spark Mandrill's stage and the second submarine in Launch Octopus' stage. THAT WEAPON IS OP!

Heh, Elden Ring is more of a Megaman game then metroidvania of Souls past. Instead of getting powers to get past places, you decide which Lords' household you're going to fuck up next.
@@arturovaldez4751 However, after carefully analyzing the .spc files from the game, I've found guitars sound very close to a humbucker-equipped guitar plugged into (ironically) a Rockman X100 headphone amp from the 80s. So, it makes a lot of sense to me that they used the Rockman as starting point for the guitar samples, which later were processed and loaded into the SPC700.
That's just the "Stage Start" or "Stage Selected" theme. It's a recurring theme in the Mega Man franchise, originally composed for Mega Man 2 on the NES and it's been used in several others as well.

If I'm not mistaken, the instrument sounds are generated by the sound chip that Sony designed for the SNES (the SONY SPC700).
