When I was a kid, I knew which way storm eagle was flying in from because I played on an old mono speaker monitor. If the sound was loud it was from the left, if it was quiet it was from the right.
I've watched a lot of tool-assisted speedruns, so sometimes it's weird for me to see actual speedruns that have an occasional "mistake" here and there, but then when I see how a player can have a handful of mistakes and still set the record, it goes to show how hard it is to do a flawless run on this game. Unless those mistakes somehow manipulated whatever RNG's are involved and aren't really mistakes...
Some of the "mistakes" were to drop X's health to a certain point to trigger boss patterns, mostly against Vile, because he goes for the stun when you have 2 or less hit points, so if you start the fight like that, you just get hit with his electricity to get it over with.

Chill Penguin...crap..well..You'll never take me alive hunter! X...after all the people you've murdered...I wasn't planning on it.. Chill ...gulp... something like that?
I've beat this game up one side and down the other. Been playing it since it was NEW. Still do on emulation. I've never seen it done in this order, with certain bosses having mechanics I didn't know could be exploited. And THEN you don't even go after the heart containers or anything else but the leggings, wander into Sigma's place in that condition, stand on ONE damn platform with position and timing and take out the final boss with HALF of your original life bar like you belong there! I hate you. (lol)
So I guess this could be considered an any% run of this game... even still, keep in mind this is the original Japanese release, so some of these exploits may not apply to the USA release, especially when there was a v1.0 and v1.1 version of this game for USA

And the only difference in a speedrun between the 1.0 and 1.1 versions is that you can juggle items between boomerangs in 1.0 - and that's a mechanic only used in 100% anyway. So there's no region or version difference that applies to any% here.

That's exactly where my best run ended. I thought it was over after light sabre sigma, I had no idea you had another form to fight, lol. Of course, i played this for hundreds of hours before Google. I almost exclusively used the x blaster and not the special weapons.

She not only carried the entire score of Megaman X2 (the woman wasn't even CREDITED because Japan in the 90's was REAL shitty to women) on her back alone, but also wrote a ton of music for Street Fighter, the Marvel VS. Series, Final Fight 2, and Aladdin on the SNES. Truly a champ she was.

I'm about to beat it for the first time. I beat all the bosses in 5 hours. I still can't beat the last level which is Sigma. This is still my favorite game.
The hadouken doesn't appear until you have all upgrades and tanks, so it adds a lot of extra time(to an any% run) for a move that can't even be used on the final form of Sigma.

I played this game while I was a kid like if it was a sport. I could get all hearts, subtanks and armor parts and finish the game in under 1 and half hour. I felt like such a badass doing this.
Every main boss has a weakness which is one of the weapons you acquire from other dead bosses. You can cut off launch Octopus’s arms with boomerang so he can’t do energy drain
interesting.... when i play casually, i usually go for Storm Eagle second, because that makes the Spark Mandrill level much easier. the electrified floors are dead, and the sub-boss can't shoot lightning. i've also found that if you do Flame Mammoth before Chill Penguin, there will be lots of LAVA hazards, making the Heart almost impossible to get without dying, BUT, everyone does Chill Penguin first, to get the Dash ability. wow, i didn't know you could avoid Boomer's charge attack just by jumping! but he handled Chameleon just the same way i like to, except for the first hit, which saves a few seconds. PS: i like to get 100% as efficiently as possible, that is, re-visiting previous levels as few times as possible. i've worked out a route where i only need to re-do three levels, Penguin for the Heart, Mandrill for the heart and sub-tank, and Boomer for the heart. also, i keep thinking of a video i saw called "unluckiest speedrunners". someone trying to set a record for this game was very unlucky because Armadillo bounced around for a LONG time at the beginning of the battle! it's random...
IGN i like you guys but you need to label stuff better. this is an Any% speedrun. There are multiple versions of the world record out there not just this one. Any%, 100%, Xbuster Only. etc etc.
@@VinnyFonseca in megaman x its called zipless any% because there is no actual glitch just 2 zip skips 1 for armored armadillo in the maverick rush using a charged ahotgun ice shot and another one in sigma stage 1 with vile's dialogue. PD all the categories are: -100% -100% zipless -100% buster only -100% zipless buster only -any% -any% zipless -any% buster only -any% zipless buster only -any% low percent -any% med percent And they still get subclassifications depending on where you play it, emulator or corsole, also region usually JPN or sometimes USA

Part of what makes it a world record sometimes is getting a little lucky. Once the spider bot hits 50%, it has a 50% chance to throw spiders on any given pass. This wastes a few seconds each time. It is fully possible to get a zero spiders pattern if you are extremely lucky.

i've worked out a route where i only need to re-do three levels, Penguin for the Heart, Mandrill for the heart and sub-tank, and Boomer for the heart.
also, i keep thinking of a video i saw called "unluckiest speedrunners".
someone trying to set a record for this game was very unlucky because Armadillo bounced around for a LONG time at the beginning of the battle!

IGN i like you guys but you need to label stuff better. this is an Any% speedrun. There are multiple versions of the world record out there not just this one. Any%, 100%, Xbuster Only. etc etc.
How is this Any%? He didn't use glitches to skip any levels.
Lockard The GOAT he didn’t do any of the extras. He skipped several side portions. It’s not 100 percent complete.
This is a glitchless any%. No use of glitches and not getting all upgrades and extra items such as hearts and E tanks.
@@VinnyFonseca in megaman x its called zipless any% because there is no actual glitch just 2 zip skips 1 for armored armadillo in the maverick rush using a charged ahotgun ice shot and another one in sigma stage 1 with vile's dialogue.

-100% zipless buster only
-any%
-any% zipless
-any% buster only
-any% zipless buster only
-any% low percent
-any% med percent
And they still get subclassifications depending on where you play it, emulator or corsole, also region usually JPN or sometimes USA
@@lockardthegoat5157 any% because he didn't get buster, armor nor helmet upgrade, he didn't grab any hearts, and only grabbed 1 subtank, he didn't get the hadouken neither, so ye, its an any% run, specifically a any% low percent

Only one question, why in the level of the spider, the spider dont throw the little spiders??? 🤔
Part of what makes it a world record sometimes is getting a little lucky. Once the spider bot hits 50%, it has a 50% chance to throw spiders on any given pass. This wastes a few seconds each time. It is fully possible to get a zero spiders pattern if you are extremely lucky.
