Ah, I remember when my dad was playing new game + and I suggested he try going through the teleporter backwards because I saw something shiny on it. None of us expected to go straight to Lavos. Crono in this timeline: "I don't know why, but I feel a strong urge to drag a girl I just met to destroy an eldrich abomination I don't even know about."
It’s like you find the Exa Arcadia cabinet in an arcade with Dodonpachi Saidaioujou and you immediately decide to choose the “Inbachi” game mode, not knowing that you’re about to face what is hands down THE hardest boss in gaming history!
About that I only had Luminare top about 4000 damage Prism Spects/Masters Crown equipped and that's only because I wasn't even CLOSE To lv 80 + here I still beat this version with the exclusive content included and still ONLY HIT LV 65 in the process.
is the Luminaire animation normally cut off/sped up like that in the Steam version? That sucks! It's cutting off one of the best sound effects in the game!
I believe there are 5 ways* (See @veghesther3204 comment below for descriptions) to trigger the encounter with Lavos! This method is the fastest way to start the final battle and can only be accomplished after completing the game at least once. I really love all the options the developers included. It was absolutely cutting edge at the time of Chrono Trigger's release.
Lets see start of the game Bucket End of Time ( SAME battle) as the Black Omen Itself. Black Omen but its FIRST mode change form only has to be killed once so on NG+ run if you killed its mode change form via the end of time bucket you'll skip that battle entirely inside the Black Omen itself. Crash Epoch into it (fly it directly to 1999 AD). Ocean Palace boss required that makes 5 ways I'm not sure what the 6th one is.
That's a good perspective. I've never heard anyone offer that before. I suppose most speed runs are based off surviving and successfully completing the game, but it could be a new category.
I also saw that you were at level 83 with Chrono and there was an active time gate in 1000 a.d. so you were already at the end pretty much just without 3 party members. Nice trick.
um doesn't this lead to the frog royal family ending? Or do you have to do the time jump and back to get the frog royal family ending? Since this is the dev ending... Which how do you leave the dev ending besides by resetting?
Defeating Lavos immediately after starting the game leads to the Dev ending. To get the Frog ending or the other different endings, you need to play the game for a bit before going to Lavos.
I think the frog ending is just after rescuing Marle from the past, but before any other story beats. I think you still need to use the right telepad so that might be where the confusion comes from.
Yes, good observation. This is the PC Steam verison of Chrono Trigger. I've played it on SNES, DS and mobile. I think the Steam verison is the best verison.
I hate the mobile version. They changed the names of weapons and items for apparently no good reason. Tonics are called potions. The lode sword became the silver sword. It's a small detail but it becomes confusing at times
That purple orb is 1 of the POST game dungeons DS/Mobile/Steam remakes only so if you beat the game and do NOT start a NG+ run fly the Epoch next to those Purple portals they lead to 1 of the 3 Dimensional Vortex dungeons which are in 1000 AD 12,000 BC and 2300 AD respectively and the flying Epoch is required it ENTER all 3 even on a NG+ run.
i'm not familiar with 'speedrun etiquette' but i don't understand why the timer doesn't start during the game's intro. just feels like an artificial way to produce a smaller time. pretty lame but w/e guess it's been normalized
@@johnnydrama3829 I agree. This was my first time speed running and I watched a few others and didn't know why that's the standard. I think navigating the games menu system should be a part of the skill and familiarity of the game.
In the end, does it really matter? We are talking a about a chunk of time where you have zero control over the game. If the cutscene lasts 58 seconds, a time of 6:02 or 7:00 are the same with context. 🤷 It's just odd that some games do it and others don't.
It is a New Game+ save file. I did one full playthrough and enjoyed the story. On my second playthrough, I spent about 100 hours grinding levels. This footage is from a third playthrough. You can do infinite New Game+ playthrough in Chrono Trigger, stats keep carrying over. The best spots to get XP and TP: First: Mount Woe, Enemy: Rubble, TP: 100 Second: Blackbird, Enemy: Turret, TP: 100 Third: Black Omen, Most enemies give very much TP Fourth: Lost Sanctum, Enemy: Wonder Rock, TP: 200 The enemies keep respawning, so hit a near save point and keep repeating the same battles over and over until your party reaches level 67, that is max HP and MP for the entire party.
Once you get to level 60, all characters will have HP of 999. Chrono, Robo, Frog, Magus and Ayla get 999 HP at level 56. Marle and Lucca take a few more levels. You can reach these levels by doing New Game+ mode. I have done three full play throughs to reach these levels.
i beat this world record after seeing this. Got a 5:40 with not too much trouble and i could probably grind out an even faster one. All in all one of my easier WR in speedrunning
Calmest WR celebration I've ever seen. Bet this guy never tilts
lol no tilt. Clutch

That's a great memory! I really enjoy how the developers added in that opportunity to be able to challenge Lavos right at the beginning of the game.
It’s like you find the Exa Arcadia cabinet in an arcade with Dodonpachi Saidaioujou and you immediately decide to choose the “Inbachi” game mode, not knowing that you’re about to face what is hands down THE hardest boss in gaming history!
I discovered this on my first playthrough I got curious at the shiny thing on the other side of the teleporter 😂 and I was wrecked immediately
this is one of my favorite games ever
It's my favorite ever. It's perfect
I love how lavos is the tiny little bit. And when I was younger I thought that middle thing was.
About that I only had Luminare top about 4000 damage Prism Spects/Masters Crown equipped and that's only because I wasn't even CLOSE To lv 80 + here I still beat this version with the exclusive content included and still ONLY HIT LV 65 in the process.

How many different ways can you encounter Lavos? That one is right at the start of the game!?

@@veghesther3204 And there they are! 5 ways. Thanks for posting those descriptions. For whatever reason I was thinking 6 ways.
why wouldn’t just dying asap count as completing the game since the future failing to change counts as one of the endings ?
That's a good perspective. I've never heard anyone offer that before. I suppose most speed runs are based off surviving and successfully completing the game, but it could be a new category.
The battle animations are clearly faster than other speedruns on SNES, should this record be in the same category?
This is the Steam version of the game and it is in the PC category for speed runs, which is the appropriate category.
don't see what's so special about this lavos guy, he seems like a real pushover
Sounds seem kinda off from what I recall on my SNES.
Could be a little different. This is the Steam version of the game. I know some of the item and weapon names are different as well.
I also saw that you were at level 83 with Chrono and there was an active time gate in 1000 a.d. so you were already at the end pretty much just without 3 party members. Nice trick.
Yes, it is a new game plus save file. So technically I had beaten the game and carried the XP/items over into a brand new game.
um doesn't this lead to the frog royal family ending? Or do you have to do the time jump and back to get the frog royal family ending? Since this is the dev ending... Which how do you leave the dev ending besides by resetting?

The dev ending also is gotten if you take out ocean palace Lavos
What's with this game? Its different than the copy I had on snes. What was that purple glowing thing at the beginning ?

Is new game + declared a speed run now?
I wouldn't be surprised if ng+ plus was used for speed run.
how are you 999/999 to start the game?

amazing bro
Thanks bro
lvl 83?
Yes. I would like to eventually max level the party to 99, but it wouldn't help increase anymore stats.
How you got 999 hp? explain please
