The Mercury Capri was actually not a later gen Escort it was a different car. We also had those in Europe, they were Ford Capris. They were like the Mustang of Europe with the looks and all. I don't know what engines it was sold with in the States but in Europe they came with the 'Crossflow' inline 4 engine and I think there was also a V6. This is for the mk1 Mercury Capris. For later ones, they don't look like the ones we had in Europe and, according to wikipedia, were based on the Foxbody Mustang.
