Great tutorial, apart from learning how to spray a panel, another highlight I think most beginners should take away from this , is that you don’t need to start with all the high priced top of the range guns. This is a good brand , affordable spray gun that is versatile for a beginner to start with and know that it will last if you look after it , great video Tony !

That was my whole point in using a gun like this for these videos mate ain’t fair on beginners if I use a £500-600 gun to show this with so I thought sod it asked our sponsors they sent me out the one I asked for so I could show a good low priced gun suitable for beginners and as always they came through and then even put a deal up on it for you guys can’t say better than that

This video really helped me setup my gun and paint 2K clear on my first attempt at painting a van. Your vid was perfect, I definitely would have made some big mistakes without it. I did see a drip and tried to wipe it off, oops, that didn't turn out well 😆 But overall I am really happy with the result. The best time to remove masking tape from a hard edge would be great info too - the van I am painting has an unpainted rubber seal between panels. I removed the tape about 30 minutes after painting, I am a little concerned that the paint may flake over time...time will tell.

nicely done tony well explained. I need to make another video my first ones where I explained this were pretty lame. So I am going to make one with using Tamco USA made material. I haven't used roberlo clear but I have used their filler which is pretty nice. It poured pretty high solids to me. finish looks acceptable. I usually spray a bit closer and smash the dots just a smidge gets a wetter finish but that would be fine for the panel you are putting on.

Hi Tony new subscriber here, still learning to paint and having problems with my clearcoat, using upol 20:80 and fast hardener but I'm getting bad peel.
I have the devilbiss SRI Pro lite 1.2 with the TE5 cap and 2bar, I'm only spraying small parts that I fabricate myself but do need a good finish. I don't have a heated booth so it's around 10C in my booth, I've been heating my mixed clear in boiling water plus heating the parts with my IR before spraying to around 35C, do you think I'm over doing the heating stage causing my peel issue, should I just heat the part and not the clear.
I also find that the clear takes 4 or 5 days to harden, is this normal or is upol not a good make of clear, sorry for all the questions but I'm pulling my hair out trying to get a good finish, Oh an using Jet Black solvent basecoat.
    Thanks, John

do you add a drop of thinners into your clear mate , ive never used that clea or gun tbh but warming everything up like that is something ive never done and in this video we were spraying at 10c no issues and it shouldnt really take that long to dry either, im thinking warming it all up so much may be making it dry to fast so its go no time to flow out on the surface before it flashes off

Thanks for the reply Tony, I didn't add any thinners as the data sheet states its optional and its quite thin as is, I'll try again without the heat, as I'm using an extra fast hardener (5 to 15C) you are probably correct that its flashing off before its flowed out.

JohnWD40TC02 always try to rely to everyone fella if I can the help always expands further than the videos , and if you get stuck after adding a tad of thinner 10% I’d try personally I use that in most clear , then drop me a message on our Facebook page as it would be easier to chat in the future if you need some more focused advice

Hi Tony, just to let you know that I added 10% thinners, didn't heat the clear and only heated the panel to 17C (ambient was 7C), sprayed 2 coats one medium and one wet and the finish was like glass, quick flash off very little peel. Really appreciate the help here Tony, your advice was spot on. 👍👍

Also--Wear nitrile gloves not only to protect yourself from deadly isocyanates/VOC's but also so you don't contaminate the oils/salts from your hands onto the tack rag and then onto the panel.

Wrong! First coat do not need to spray the edges always the second coat, otherwise overbuilding the edges....

Personal opinion I’d say on that I’d rather have two coats of clear over a whole panel than one coat on edges and two all over so the whole panel has the same protection
