I remember back when I first found a Windblade at retail, I was ecstatic. That quickly turned to utter disappointment when she couldn't hold together in either mode. Maybe the overall fandom reaction was overblown, but I cannot say that first iteration is a good mold.
My Windblade (which I've had since release) has no issues staying together in either mode. It's only the heels that are a problem on mine. It's definitely not just Slipstream's paint holding it together.
it always weirds me out when something sitting on my shelf or in a shelf is now worth a good bit of money. i see those numbers, look at her on my shelf, and say "really?".
Your younger self was NOT wrong... the mold is flimsy. It doesn't hold together well, the robot mode doesn't balance well, and getting the alt mode to tab together in any way that resembles something solid is impossible.

While those heals can be a pain in the ass, shes easily still one of my most prized figs in the collection and i LOVE the character just so much. Really wish hasbro would give her character some more propper toy representation in the future tho.
I couldn't bring myself to get this figure, so I made my own....which is Studio Series Thundercracker with the Titan Master Overboard. It looks good, if a bit buff for the character. Although I think the Studies Series Blitzwing in Slipstreams colors and with a decent head would be great
1:12 disappointed you didn't say "expect when they didn't" and show an image of united thunderwing which was trying to more toy actual then then rather then the Hasbro release trying to look in-between his marvel and idw2005 colors.
Slipstream really isn't a bad figure. She has just enough remolded parts to differentiate her from Windblade. My only gripe really ARE those annoying heels.
Ngl Im so glad that were getting a Slipstream retool from the pretty good Legacy Windblade mold later this year, Ill definitely pick her up, do however wonder how much theyre gonna retool tho, really hoping that it wont be a Shadowstriker/Sideburn situation where its just the head that gets changed, and Im hoping that itll be more of a Scraphook/Axelgrease where theyll retool not just robot mode but also alt mode bits, but only time will tell I suppose.
I didn't read any comics but I heard a lot of people call that version of the character a mary sue for some reason also i really liked her in Rid 2015 honestly the only character in that show that doesn't make me cringe
She was a bit of a Mary Sue in RID, but in the comics the story was about her using her intellect and communication skills to rise above in an oppressive society. She had faults such as her own confidence and a lack of physical strength.
As someone with both windblade and slipstream yeah those heels can fuck off but I like the actual asthetic of the mold though. So much that I am currently repainting my windblade into a proper decepticon colors so I can throw her into my decepticon squad.
I actually quite like the Cyberverse Slipstream -- I forget what exactly they called it, but the 7" one with the silly flip-out spinny thing gimmick, that unlike any other spring loaded gimmick ever didn't cripple it in either mode, or force some awkward proportions or huge chunk of back or arm kibble. It could have used a bit more articulation and pinned ankles instead of the easy to pop out molded joints, but that's just the Cyberverse line design philosophy, and getting a VOY size figure for a DX price tag was a delightful inversion of recent trends.
I'm gutted they didn't do a more extensive collector lineup for cyberverse, because those designs are amazing. Hopefully we get more character redos after Shadowstriker in legacy evolution
We are due for a new Generations Windblade. They can do better than the original mold. I also wonder if they can do a new specific slipstream mold, the current ER seeker mold is probably too bulky but they could easily do a new fembot jetformer mold that's up to WFC standards to reuse.

Honestly, for her moldmate, even if TAV55 Windblade is good and much more accessible, the Takara version of this mold still has the best feel in terms of its look (though the head would have to be replaced with TR Windblade's face to make it truly perfect for comic or Prime Wars look, at least personally), especially the wings and jet mode. We'll see if I'm that crazy to hunt the Legends figure down or settle with the TAV one, or see which one's actually available. I hate how Takara Legends finally gave us representation for those Decepticon fembots, and yet the manga turned them into giggling clumsy fanservice moe secretaries for Megatron. No, that's not a matephor, guys, they are literally secretaries.
@@DrLockdown Right, I'm normally not the sort of person to xomplain about this, BUT I genuinely hate how these strong and characterful women have been degraded to purely sexual objects with no personality outside of looking cute and ditzy for the men, and how these powerful, dangerous characters have been casted as secretaries in the office enviroment, because they're women. Yeah, Blackarachnia was always sexualized but there is a difference between sexualized and objectified. Blackaraxhnia was a character. Threated like a person. In the Legends manga she's a vehicle for fanservice.
I dislike this figure because it has made hasbro think its ok to make Slipstream out of Windblade Slipstream is a Seeker, she should be made from a Starscream
Odd, I found when Windbade was first making the rounds I was one of the ONLY voices of dissent. Where was this supposed outcry against Windbade that I completely missed!?
"Better" paint job. 80's sunbow accuracy does not always equal "better". Sadly, I was never a fan of this use of Windblade. I prefer Slipstream be a seeker mold.
It wasn't always better, but often Takara just had more paint. It being better was more attributed to that than the specific source material. If Takara did toy accuracy I have no doubt it would look even better than what we got, but they went for what they went for

What kind of ads are playing on these?!
@@DrLockdown That’s what I want to know
Welp, RUclips will be RUclips
I hate how Takara Legends finally gave us representation for those Decepticon fembots, and yet the manga turned them into giggling clumsy fanservice moe secretaries for Megatron. No, that's not a matephor, guys, they are literally secretaries.
I know. It makes the suit and tie torso even funnier
I dislike this figure because it has made hasbro think its ok to make Slipstream out of Windblade
Slipstream is a Seeker, she should be made from a Starscream
First
Odd, I found when Windbade was first making the rounds I was one of the ONLY voices of dissent. Like most people I knew were chastising me for thinking her entire concept from top to bottom was abhorrently awful and that she stood only as a tribute to why fan polls are always a bad idea... and I still am, but that's not the point.
