If you can do good with degree with graduation and mba, etc then you will good decent job too on land along with staying with your family.
Guys it depends on fleet and company. Basically when u start as deck or engine cadet intial salary would be ranging from 400 to 800 dollars approx. After that exams and exams and lots of courses and trainning and sail experience and risks so to become Master or Chief engineer.. say around 7 to 10 plus years . Believe me sometimes on vacation u would mostly spend it on studies and trainning.. so dont think easy money and join.. yeah good money (based on your fleet and company)when you progress in your ranks but responsibility u carry over rough seas with million billion $ worth cargo.. not just travel so dont say just to travel get such money coz it s disrespectful to any profession to comment or ask such manner..salary is still more than what he mentioned.. most of the times..

One of my reletive is Cheif Officer in Teekay Tankers and he told me that its not that difficult to get a job in merchant navy but it is a hell lot of difficult to survive in merchant navy.... 35% quit their job whitin 4-5 years of experience and rest 45 % quit within 5-7 years of experience.... Because this job is all about mental and physical strength

Also one of the thing is u have to lose family, friends and be alone with a group no matter what. Tell me would u lose social media? I would rather not.
