Having the Caesar Style fries from the Frittenküche and the Dönertasche from Oliv Grill for dinner and a belegtes Brötchen from Lidl for Breakfast you would have enough money to split a Schnitzel at Schmackes for lunch. That sounds like a reasonable approach to a touristy budget day for two.

Bread. Dense rye or pumpernickel. These are hard to find in the US. Or cakes like D&P have in German cafes. These may be hard to carry on a plane without them getting smooshed or stale, but perhaps you can find smaller sizes in more durable gift packaging.

@@Mirabella492 Those flat round cookies in a tube are common in Eastern Europe and probably in Germany but not in the US. They're sometimes called Marie biscuits but also have other names. Some have a chocolate filling. They're wider and thinner than Oreos and less sweet; some people dunk them in tea. I found them easily at Russian supermarkets and kiosks and they were made by Turkish and maybe German manufacturers. You could get a few of those for little money; their packaging is durable; they won't go stale; and Americans will find them an unusual treat. especially if the packaging has foreign language(s) on it.

Nordsee used to be my go-to for inexpensive lunch, but then recently the bread I got had freezer burn, so that put me off of it a bit. There's a really nice place near Uni Wien that sells different curries every day and rice for less than 4 euros. Combine that with Anker or Ströck and a salad from the grocery store for dinner, and that's what I typically do, and it's usually a lot less than 20 euros. You two have inspired me though, so I am going to do this for my Instagram stories with the ten euro challenge finally since I have a month-long break coming up.

The best thing for me is a plain croissant with a nice espresso-based drink. Buuuuut, when I am really sick and have no appetite the only thing I can get myself to eat are Semmeln (Kaiser rolls for Americans reading this) with butter and honey. A cookie for breakfast?! LOL. But then it makes sense. Like how people eat crossiant for breakfast in europe. But the irony is that crossaint evolved from a austrian COOKIE called Kipferi. Although most people will called a kipferi a bread roll but to me it is more of a cooke. And from a GERMAN speaking country(Austria). So people in Germany should be happy with eating a crossaint.
