I really like being able to see Deanna ordering like that. Im supposed to visit Germany in a couple months and im nervous about ordering things and stuff since i dont ever get to practice german in Indiana but it’s comforting to at least get an idea of what’s appropriate way to ask to order something! :)
It's amazing that people from US (Deana) could prefer Matjes over the cheaper option (probably breaded and fried fish). I haven't had Matjes in a long time, I crave it.
Brothaus for breakfast. I typically get the Mohnschneke 1.95, Doner for lunch 6.50, Doner for dinner 6.50. Total= 14.95 Doners all day if you find a good one. I know Phil would agree.
So very nice to watch the two of you 'almost' live again! You have become a part of many peoples vicarious lives through the years, mine included. We understand completely the necessity for a break from the hassle of entertaining us, but we are happy that y'all are back! Had the opportunity to live in Dortmund for most of2006, was great to see familiar locations, if not the same restaurant names. The work and stress that you both face from making these videos is appreciated by all of us, appreciate each one!
Having the Caesar Style fries from the Frittenküche and the Dönertasche from Oliv Grill for dinner and a belegtes Brötchen from Lidl for Breakfast you would have enough money to split a Schnitzel at Schmackes for lunch. That sounds like a reasonable approach to a touristy budget day for two.
Very nice video! I asked that already a few weeks ago but can you please make a video or tell me what (food) presents would be nice to bring to America from Germany for when you’re visiting? Like what isn’t available there and would make a special present? Thank you 🙏🏻
Bread. Dense rye or pumpernickel. These are hard to find in the US. Or cakes like D&P have in German cafes. These may be hard to carry on a plane without them getting smooshed or stale, but perhaps you can find smaller sizes in more durable gift packaging.
My American friends always buy many different sweets like white milka and kinder products! And they also bought many packages of Knorr "Würstchen Gulasch" 🤢😂😂😂 they tried it once at a friend's place and loved it forever 🙈🤷🏼♀️
@@IT-fx6fk and sorry to bother but what Sweets exactly? Because I saw on some American RUclips videos that they do have stuff like Milka and Ferrero and I even saw an American ad for Kinder bueno… but yeah, maybe not the special kinds…🤔

Hi Guys, great video! Phil, you mentioned the store Lidl. We had one of those near us in Charlotte NC, absolutely loved that place. Keep going with the videos, love them.
Small world, while visiting Germany I ate at a Chinese restaurant in small town and talking to the owner I also ate at his cousins restaurant in Sacramento.
On a Crossaint there is no need for Butter underneath the Honey. But it's oretty useful on a slice of bread, to prevent the Honey from just oozing through the pores ^^ Oh und 1 Brötchen bei Backwerk mit Karte zahlen ist auch schon wild. Oder eher noch. Wir schließen, was Plastic Money (Wie Falco gerne sagte) angeht, ja langsam zu z.B. Amerika oder Japan auf
Yeah, that is a recent thing. It is absolutely insane how much prices have gone up at the bakeries in the last year or so. A simple sandwich at the bakery has gone up from like 3.50 Euros to 5 Euros or even more. This breakfast would have cost the same 6 Euro, but INCLUDING the coffee a year or two ago.
100%! We did this 10 Euro challenge half a year ago. It seems like we can only buy the same food 6 months later, because prices have increased so much!
I would go to the Metzgerei and buy some Aufschnitt, then to a Bakery to get Wasser Brötchen for my first meal of the day. Imbiß Stube for half a roasted chicken and Gemischtes Salad and then if the Open Air Markets are open, finish off the day with fresh fruit. That was a typical day of eats for me, while visiting Hildesheim or Freiburg im Breisgau or Bocholt.
So good to see you back. We missed you!! We had a lunch yesterday at a local Italian Deli. We each had a sub (grinder) sandwich and a pickle and chips for $21. We are in Florida
Ooh...I've always heard about the currywurst in Germany. My friend visited there and said it's so good. I can't believe the Euro is equal to the dollar now. What happened? 1 Euro equaled $2.50 the last I heard. All of the food looked good. The Egyptian rice bowl; well, you got quite a bang for the buck there. It had a lot of nutritional value.
Nordsee used to be my go-to for inexpensive lunch, but then recently the bread I got had freezer burn, so that put me off of it a bit. There's a really nice place near Uni Wien that sells different curries every day and rice for less than 4 euros. Combine that with Anker or Ströck and a salad from the grocery store for dinner, and that's what I typically do, and it's usually a lot less than 20 euros. You two have inspired me though, so I am going to do this for my Instagram stories with the ten euro challenge finally since I have a month-long break coming up.
I try to eat mostly orange and reddish food *lol* This made me realize that my two favorite foods, Doritos and Watermelon fit that as well as all the curries and tomatenmmark based sauces I eat. However I hate red tea. I just had half a Laugenecke with butter and tomatenmark, they should sell them like that.
I eat my croissant with butter and with something hearty instead sweet, i like salty spicy things on it 😂😂 but in the netherlands normally its croissant with butter and jam or chocolatespread
AAAAAAAHHHH!!! I've actually been to Dortmund! :DDDD And I'm not born in Germany. But I think you are both somewhat right about the butter and bread thing. I don't need anything on my croissants. The best thing for me is a plain croissant with a nice espresso-based drink. Buuuuut, when I am really sick and have no appetite the only thing I can get myself to eat are Semmeln (Kaiser rolls for Americans reading this) with butter and honey. It's the simplest comfort food I've ever known.
Don’t get me wrong, my love for German bread runs deep but mein Gott(!)… so many carbs. If you’re getting proper exercise it’s not an issue when you’re young but after 40 years old, your doctor will definitely give you a dose of reality.
Just honey for me! I agree that is the way to cut your roll. But just to shock people, I would cut it the ‘wrong’ way. I would also cut my pasta with a knife in Italy and I would also explicitely ask for pinapple on my pizza in Italy. 😊
