Salep is the main ingredient of a widely consumed beverage in Turkish cuisine. Salep is a powdered substance obtained from the root of the Salep orchid. This plant usually grows in the natural regions of Turkey. Salep powder is mixed with milk and sugar to create a hot beverage. It is particularly preferred during cold winter days. It has a sweet and creamy texture. Salep has a long history in Turkey due to its delicious taste and nutritious properties.
It’s also used to make Maraş Dondurması (Turkish Ice-Cream)!!! The salep mixed with fresh Goat Milk gives it that beautifully thick and chewy texture ❤
What good memories seeing your trip. Turkish and espacially Istambul is one of my favorite capital in the world. Turkish people are so nice and kind. The old city and the Sultanamet district are awesome and so beautiful
As a Turkish boi, this is affirmative that we are so friendly and kind! Sometimes we help people and animals as well! Thanks to you guys for making this good videos!
I am from Turkey and THANK YOU guys presenting true food with your natural beautiful humor sense.. My friends are arriving from Cape Town and i just forwarded this lovely video.
You have described Turkey very well. Our people are friendly, our food is incredibly delicious and clean. Thank you. You are a very sympathetic couple. I wish you happiness.
Why do I think Turkish food is the best? I was born and raised abroad and have traveled to many different nations. I believe that the simplicity of the food is to thank for this. Unlike the French or other well-known famous kitchens in Europe, we don't use sauces to top our meals; instead, we use only spices, and the flavor is still out of this world. Although Istanbul is undoubtedly a fusion of Turkish culture, I believe that the best way to experience local cuisine is to visit the city where it is produced.
I am Turkish and constantly travelling abroad for work. I can surely say that the number 1 thing I miss when I am away from home is all different kinds of our food 😍 We basically have 7 main regions in Turkiye (1-Marmara, 2-Black Sea, 3-Egean, 4-Mediterrean, 5-Inner-Anatolian, 6-Eastern-Anatolian, 7-Southeastern-Anatolian) which all have distintc characteristic of cusine. All has fantastic dishes. You really cannot finish trying them all by eating 3 meals a day in a year long total, I can say! Thanks for the video. 💙
It's great that you add in the prices of everything you try. It drives me nuts when vloggers don't do that in their vids :-) I'm heading there next year !
Going to Istanbul alone as an American in a month and have honestly been terrified of not being able to even order food from anyone because I don't speak the language. I hate being 'that tourist' but I honestly don't have time to learn conversational Turkish before I leave. Thank you for this video, whether or not it ends up actually mirroring the experience I have, if only for easing my fear for these 20 minutes. Cheers.
If you pay attention to the rules of courtesy and are polite, everyone will try to help. But you should still remember that not everyone you will encounter may be Turk, even if they live in Turkiye.
absolutely unneccessary Ryan most of the business people in touristic areas speak basic English. Except you do not have a strong accent or slang and speak slowly and mindful they will help you by anything.
As long as you stay away from Arab, afgan refugees, you will not have any problems in our country dude, its very safe place for tourists and you dont have to be afraid of the language barrier
wow! I absolutely love your channel. You provide great historical information and also bring a great personality to your videos. The food looked amazing!
Thank you for coming to Turkey and evaluating our delicacies. We have full confidence in our food! I think it has the most important place in world cuisine.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Afiyet olsun. ^^ And about the hills, Istanbul also as known as "the city of the seven hills." It's a bit fancy, in Turkish you could hear that only in songs and poems though, nobody calls Istanbul that in daily language. Yet, the hills are there, all seven of them, as you have noticed. xD About döner: the working guys there were calling it as "et" which means simply meat. There are two types of döner meat in common, chicken and beef. We call the beef one simply as "meat döner" :D And the other one is "chicken döner, obviously." And that famous Iskender kebab, you should try that as well, has also döner meat on top of it, but the meat there is tend to be mixed beef and lamb. Just some little fun facts for anyone interested, thanks for the great video. ❤
You're correct but that was Döner meat wasn't on a plate or in a traditional Turkish Bread or Tombik Ekmek. The one Claire got's Dürüm. I've seen Claire and Rhett's first day in Istanbul video last week. I think it was one of the fist things Claire realised how hilly Istanbul was. I's going to tell her then ( but forgotton ) through Roman and Ottoman Empire era have been mentioned in poems, songs and stories that Istanbul's built on 7 hills.
thank you very much for both of you guys.. you show and tell the world about our priceless culture and seems you also enjoy.. thanks for your visit and hope you come again..

Randomly came upon your channel and this is the first video iv watched. Great content and as a turkish person it delighted me that you guys had a great time in Turkey. Cant wait to watch your other videos!
In this part of the video what I find most interesting is the fact that the people in turkey are very polite and very respectful to all people, not just to the locals, but the tourists as well and the Turkish people actually speak English, which really is very surprising, and the variety of different types of foods available is outstanding, and this video with this couple is very educational, and it's these types of videos that would prompt many Americans to travel to this country, for leisure or a vacation, and given the dollar, they wouldn't hesitate to welcome our currency, as many other countries would, and when I was in the Army, stationed in Korea and Germany, they all knew that we were 1st AMERICANS and in the military, as we were very much welcomed, and usually they wanted to know where we were from, and when I said Hawaii, they literally were in SHOCK, and to a certain degree explained Hawaii, in a nutshell, and they were very excited to go to Hawaii, and I explained to them the DO'S AND DONT'S,when they get their, and recently I have talked to different people and they told me that they have been to Hawaii, and they just loved it, the people, culture, history, and the various types of different foods. But I say KUDOS, to this video BRAVO!!!!!
You guys have such a great vibe ❤🤍By the way you guys made a cute mistake 15:00 it is not "Ayram" its "Ayran" 😄Also 20:46 we call this one "Kaymak" and there is honey on the top of it because most of the people eat kaymak with honey in breakfast. It is basically the thing on the milk when you boil it. I wish you guys the best trips.
I'm incredibly happy that you like our food and hospitable people. You chose a nice city for both site seeing and eating different types of food. However, what we are really proud of is that we have different specialities for every region and even for different cities.
The salep mixed with fresh Goat Milk gives it that beautifully thick and chewy texture ❤
actually, salep is the reason for entire exitences of cafes such as starbucks worldwide. But the story... it is kinda long.
Maraş dondurmasınin aromasinda etkili rol oynar salep teşekkürler
What good memories seeing your trip. Turkish and espacially Istambul is one of my favorite capital in the world. Turkish people are so nice and kind. The old city and the Sultanamet district are awesome and so beautiful

Welcome to Istanbul. As a Turk, I watched the video with pleasure. Have a nice holiday.
I am from Turkey and THANK YOU guys presenting true food with your natural beautiful humor sense.. My friends are arriving from Cape Town and i just forwarded this lovely video.
Our pleasure! We're sure your friends will have a great time!
Hello from Eastern Europe, Türkiye 🇹🇷🌟
Strange, Turkish cuisine doesn't use a lot of spices compared to other cuisines.
This is exactly what i am thinking.
@@i.k.8868 He means (dried) herbs actually
Afiyet olsun dostlar. :) 🇹🇷 Those are only small part of Turkish Street foods. I hope you've tried many more.
Thank you so much for Turkiye and Turkish people. I became a fun of you two in the first video :)
Thank you! 😃
Turkish food the most delicious and beautiful food in the world for sure 💯
Hello, I am a Turk, I am very happy that you like our country, I wish you a happy holiday.
It's great that you add in the prices of everything you try. It drives me nuts when vloggers don't do that in their vids :-) I'm heading there next year !
Prices change constantly, but you can still get an idea.
Prices now is something like Rome/Parise
Going to Istanbul alone as an American in a month and have honestly been terrified of not being able to even order food from anyone because I don't speak the language. I hate being 'that tourist' but I honestly don't have time to learn conversational Turkish before I leave. Thank you for this video, whether or not it ends up actually mirroring the experience I have, if only for easing my fear for these 20 minutes. Cheers.
You’ll be absolutely fine! Nothing to worry about at all😁🙌🏻
If you pay attention to the rules of courtesy and are polite, everyone will try to help.
Nasıl geçti tatil 😂
As a Turk, I am very pleased that you have introduced Turkey so well. Thank you very much for this
Turkish food is so delicious that you can't get enough of it, there are many other delicious dishes too.❤
wow! I absolutely love your channel. You provide great historical information and also bring a great personality to your videos. The food looked amazing!

I love Turkish food. Great content in this video. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber.
Thanks for subbing!
Afiyet olsun. ^^ And about the hills, Istanbul also as known as "the city of the seven hills." It's a bit fancy, in Turkish you could hear that only in songs and poems though, nobody calls Istanbul that in daily language. Yet, the hills are there, all seven of them, as you have noticed. xD
About döner: the working guys there were calling it as "et" which means simply meat. There are two types of döner meat in common, chicken and beef. We call the beef one simply as "meat döner" :D And the other one is "chicken döner, obviously."
And that famous Iskender kebab, you should try that as well, has also döner meat on top of it, but the meat there is tend to be mixed beef and lamb. Just some little fun facts for anyone interested, thanks for the great video. ❤
Interesting!
As a Turk, I really enjoyed watching Istanbul from your perspective. Glad you enjoyed Turkish food!
thank you very much for both of you guys.. you show and tell the world about our priceless culture and seems you also enjoy.. thanks for your visit and hope you come again..
Welcome to the most beautiful city in the world, you made it even more beautiful with you, thank you 🇹🇷🌺

The lemon juice alchol thing you are talking about is called "lemon cologne" 😊 and yes every house have that.
Bence İtalyan limoncello demek istediler
Turkish people and their food is always varied and the best.
The most beautiful city and natural world in the world
You guys have such a great vibe ❤🤍By the way you guys made a cute mistake 15:00 it is not "Ayram" its "Ayran" 😄Also 20:46 we call this one "Kaymak" and there is honey on the top of it because most of the people eat kaymak with honey in breakfast. It is basically the thing on the milk when you boil it. I wish you guys the best trips.
basically fat of milk.
