In n Out double double animal style with a little extra salt and extra onions and peppers, Carls Jr Western Bacon Cheeseburger, Goodtimes Big Daddy Bacon Cheeseburger. My top 3 fast food burgers. Too bad i don’t eat fast food anymore, this video is making me hungry :(
The best one is McDonald's. First of all the price is the best. And the beef is good. But what's good about it is, it's not too thick or thin. And not too messy to eat in the car. Good value. That's why it's the largest burger chain in the world.
I was thinking the same thing, plus Deana might have to literally roll him on to the plane back to Germany with how rotund he would get😂. I do feel though they need to take a trip over to the Atlanta area and try this area’s The Vortex (also their chili), and Grindhouse Killer Burgers (Grindhouse also has some truly awesome hotdogs and shakes). Also as for BBQ, Atlanta’s Fox Brothers is great, and not from this area try BBQ from City Lights BBQ is very nice. Three other burger restaurants to try, that aren’t exclusive to the ATL, but aren’t found everywhere are Yeah! Burgers, Farm Burger, and Bad Daddy’s. There also some great burger and other food restaurants especially in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur, GA.
OK, so you missed the golden opportunity here. For McDonald’s, you should’ve done the quarter pounder with cheese deluxe. That would’ve been more comparable to the rest of the burgers that you tried. If you’re going to do the Big Mac, then you have to compare that with the Big Hardee and the Big King as they are all similar with their signature secret sauces.. I suggest a redo. 🍔🍔🍔👍🏻
Was ein super video! Habe die Tage noch an euch gedacht ("hab ich in der letzten Zeit eig mal wieder ein Video von denen angezeigt bekommen? Was machen die wohl so?) :D Ich bin auch total fasziniert von der amerikanischen Fast Food-Kultur, keine Ahnung woher das kommt. Super Video! In Deutschland ist Five Guys auch mein Favorit, wobei ich sagen muss, dass ich Burger King schon immer besser fand als McDonalds und tatsächlich liebe ich da den Whopper :D
Hardee's is Carl's Jr, in the western half of the US, and there are minor menu differences, but still they are very similar. This is one of the few chains that flame-broils (or char-broils) their burgers over an open flame (also competitors The Habit [served fresh], and Burger King [which then ruins them, by placing them in warming trays, instead of serving fresh]). Most other burger places use a flat top griddle to cook their burgers.
Oh Woodruff Road. It’s always nuts but definitely on a Saturday. Hardee’s is great for their breakfast biscuits. Both Hardee’s and Bojangles are the fast food biscuit kings in SC. Curly fries are far superior to regular fries. Other than maybe Five Guys fries.
I second Shake Shack (although I prefer their Shroom Burger) and In-n-Out! As far as I know, Shake Shack started in NYC so they likely have gone down the East coast by now.
I can't believe you have not taken Phil to the famous seafood buffets in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. We love them. Take him to Captain George's to start off with.
The best burger at McDonald's - the only one made fresh without previously frozen meat - is the Quarter Pounder. Not having cheese on a Whopper is your own fault. Onion rings are Burger King's sides advantage over McDonald's. But the best regular sandwich at Burger King is the Original Chicken, although I prefer it with bacon added. I love Dave's Triple with bacon. Wendy's fries are great with ketchup. Their chili is very tasty to me. I used to go to Taco Bell's drive-thru for a chili cheese burrito and crunchy tacos, then to the following drive-thrus that were all next door to one another a couple blocks away: Burger King for chocolate chip cookies, onion rings with zesty sauce, and a Whopper or Whopper Jr. or a barbecue bacon double cheeseburger, McDonald's for fries, Arby's for a jamocha shake (jamocha means chocolate and coffee flavors blended) and sometimes the seasoned curly fries, and Wendy's for chili with crackers and hot sauce (and chicken nuggets with chipotle sauce back when they still had their delicious chipotle sauce).
Woodruff Rd is the most crowded road in Greenville. Rest of the city is easy driving. I wish you visited Hans and Franz.... google them. German owned but South Carolina influence. Glad you visited.
Der Titel ist großartig! Aber mal ehrlich, so wie ich Phil durch Eure Videos kennen gelernt habe, ist er schon ein echtes Schleckermäulchen und die eigentliche treibende Kraft, wenn es um Burger geht! 😜
You guys were better off stopping at Persis biryani grill lollll pls do a video there soon! They have buffets on weekends lunch time also. Also jack in the box did have a midnight menu sandwhich thats made of croissant chicken ham cheese hashbrowns but I am not seeing it on their menu online so unsure if they still have those or not 😭 which sucks bc that was soooo delicious and id been wanting one for awhile now you would have LOVED it.
My Girlfriend and I just had the Best Fast Food Burger discussion .... we agree that Carls Jr / Hardees Bacon Western Cheeseburger is the best ....Bacon , Onion rings with tangy BBQ Sauce and the flame broiled patty ....PERFECTION !
If you find the Whataburger chain, try their burger. My favorite! Also, they have the best fries, ever!!🍔🍟 Just found your channel today, you guys are so much fun to watch. ☺️
10:57 I actually really like the Whopper because it has no cheese 😅 it just tastes fresher and cleaner. Also, I'm not a big eater and cheese fills me up super fast. Also like BKs burgers better than mcD, as at BK theres at least some veggies on there, mcD basically has no burgers, other than the plant based one, with tomato, pickles and lettuce. Mostly they put 2 teeny tiny pieces of pickle and some lettuce.. At the moment they do have the chicken sensation back in the Netherlands, thats my favorite 'burger' at mcD. I love chicken burgers and this one also has the veggies 👌 my favorite item were the apple pies. I think Germany does still have them on the menu (the apfeltasche), in the Netherlands they only have them sometimes for a short amount of time and only just the tiny ones.
Burger eating life hack: take a bite, then turn the burger upside-down and take another bite. Because the different ingredients hit the different taste receptors in your mouth differently when you turn it upside-down, it causes the taste to change. (Also works on sandwiches!)
I think a 5 for McDonald's is spot on. In my experience, I've never had a bad meal from Mickey D's, but I've never had a great one. You go in knowing what you're going to get, and you're never disappointed. (It's also still one of the places where you can get a decent lunch for $5 - two McDoubles for $3.89 and a large Dr. Pepper for $1. Heck yeah.)
I like DQ and A&W for the American fast food chain burgers. Wendy's always seem bland to me. McDonald's, I won't touch with a 10 foot pole. We hardly have any Burger Kings around, same with Carl's Jr., Fat Burger, or Five Guys. You have to be in a certain area to find them and I wouldn't go out of my way to do that, Maybe I'll have to make a point of doing that sometime though. Did try a Way Out burger recently and it was okay, though I'd just as soon support a local burger joint, or better yet - enjoy (with a beer) = a great pub burger any day! Mahlzeit und Prost from Calgary, Alberta, Canada!
My very first job was working at Carl's Jr. They later merged with Hardee's. Carl's Jr. Is known for its Charbroiled Hamburgers. The beef patty is placed in a moving metal belt with a pan beneath to catch all the grease. While the flames cook the patty. This gives the burgers a smoky flavor. The thing i like best about the Famous Star and Super Star is the sauce ratio. I hate dry hamburgers. So having the right sauce ratio helps ensure a juicy burger. 😊 Wendy's does not freeze their hanburger pattys, they refrigerate them which gives you a fresher tasting burger. The Parmesan fries are deep fried then covered in garlic butter with Parmesan grated cheese and chopped parsley. Those are the green bits.
Five Guys is my favorite and locally (Austin, TX) I like P. Terry's. I had no idea Hardee's had burgers! Last time I went was in the 90's for their roast beef sandwich. But I guess their roast beef sandwich was a bigger thing when I was little in the 80's and 90's. I thought Hardee's was just another Arby's this whole time. Learned something new! Thanks for filming this so I don't have to waste my time eating at those other places and just keep going to Five Guys. And Culver's especially for frozen custard 😁
As a German a enjoy your videos in the US very much. 8 burgers a day is a hard challenge. 😊 Would be great if you could do also some more road trip videos.
Back when Red Robin still had the 5 Alarm Peppercorn burger and their chili cheese fries, it was one of my all time faves (I am not sure if they put crack in those chili fries, but they were so addictive). Last time I was in the states I went to RR and they no longer had either the burger nor the fries on the menu... so disappointed :( The best burgers in the US can in my opinion be found at the little greasespoon diners and the bars (student bars and blue collar working people's bars) 1) Rodeo burger, swiss on rye, at the Peanut Barrel in East Lansing, MI 2) Firecracker burger (with added bacon) at a tiny place called Miller's Corner Bar in Columbia Heights, MN 3) A place called Clover Grill on Bourbon Street in NOLA (I know, don't go to Bourbon Street, it's a tourist trap, but that place was awesome, a little further up from all the booze joints) Honorable mention for weirdest burger: there was a greasespoon in Detroit on Cass, between the Labyrinth club in the basement and City Club (Shitty Club) on the 2nd floor, which had an ice cream burger on the menu... and it was just what it sounded like: a burger with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My then partner decided to try it out of curiousity, and then had me try it as well... it was weird AF but strangely awesome
If you do try it, be sure to get your Double Double _with_ onion. It needs it for balance. Ordering it no onion is a common mistake people make. Ask for grilled onion or animal style if you can't handle raw onion.
If you ever come to Portugal and want to try all the fastfood we have here at once, every big city here has one or more big shopping malls and the top floor always has lots 15-25 different fastfood stalls to try.
Das ist nicht nur für Phil gut, das würde ich auch mögen. Wir haben sowas ähnliches. Ich glaube deiner Idee kommt Krustenbraten mit Semmelknödeln und Rotkohl oder Schnitzelbrötchen am nächsten.
@@terrycarter1137 He said he would enjoy that as well, and that we actually have something like in Germany but not with a Schnitzel but with a Pork Roast and German potato dumplings. We also have Schnitzel Brötchen, it's a German Crispy Bread roll with a Schnitzel, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and some Mayo, lots of Bakery Frenchies place sell them.
As former Mc D’ employee (90’s) my time working there was an eye opening the cook would drop the frozen Pattie’s by accident to the floor & manager would say nah pick it up the heat will killed everything 😢 I was in charge of the fries and register so I touch money & try not touch fries. Burger King their patties are all ready made before you order & is keep in warmer bins ( like every fast food chain except Culver & 5 Guys ) that dry them out or in commercial microwave ( look at tik toks ) I feel for both of you eating BK 😢 I’ve been in Germany in 06’ & Germany have high standards in fast foods ❤ thanks for video my favorite so far is BBQ video because I live in the north and is not the same as in the south 😋
Big Mac sauce, mayo mixed with ketchup and pickle relish aka Thousand Island Dressing. White Castle is in SC... pure garbage but sometimes it fills a need
Carl's Jr (Hardees in the West - Denver, CO) had/has a Breakfast burger that's SO addictive. I think you can "secret menu" it at Hardees. Sadly, no In N Out, Whataburger, Arby's...but only Arby's is available in the South. Also Cookout (never been).
When I lived in the US Wendy's was my favorite. In Germany the Big Mac does not have cheese that's why I prefer the Hamburger Royal (quarter pounder) with cheese. Where I live in Germany (close to Cologne) there are only 2 Burger places: McDonald's and Burger King.
Every burger? I don't know, eight options in the U.S. seems like only the tip of the iceberg, lol. Looks like you likely hit up the most popular ones for this video, though. For the most part I agreed with your assessments. In Texas we have a chain called Whataburger that usually beats out the rest. Welcome to the US, Phil! Hope you enjoy your stay.
BK fries are way better than McDonald's, but Dairy Queen has the best fries, hands-down. Big Mac sauce is Thousand Island dressing. Wendy's has the best burgers, but if we aren't talking nation-wide, In-in-Out and Burgerville.
I was worried you guys wouldnt have Culvers on the list because it isnt as wide spread. The burgers are smash burgers(the best way to cook a burger imo) so yeah doubles are the best option
There's some decent burgers to be had here in the states in the mega-chains, but where the REAL flavor is at is the smaller and more unique local places, rather than the global chains. Just the "mom and pop's burger shack" kind of businesses. Where I live, you see a number of these places here and there that have been around for decades, and if you can find them, you will see flavor combinations you couldn't dream of getting from the likes of mcdonalds. Bonus if their ingredients are locally sourced from nearby farms, rather than the mass-produced factory stuff shipped in from out of state.
I live in a small town in Southern Illinois. Our biggest industry at the moment is Fast Food. It used to be Coal Mining, but you know how that goes, right? But the Fast Food Joints we have are Arby's, Burger King, Hardees, McDonald's, SONIC, KFC, Taco Bell, and Wendy's. We also have a few Chinese and other Mexican restaurants. Out of all the burger joints, i would have to say tge Hardees burgers are probably the best tasting. The thing i always have a problem.with is that the leaf lettuce is so slippery that the sandwich tends to slide apart.
You know what's wrong with a Big Mac is that slice of bread in the middle between the two patties and there Ketchup is never fresh tasting !! The ONLY BURGER that I get from McD's is their Quarter Pounder with Cheese ! Mmmmmmm! Yummy ! 😋😋😋😋
Still team Culver's and team Wisconsin! I know that you didn't rate Culver's as your favorite burger place, but it's still a great place to come and eat! PLEASE come to Wisconsin and explore! ❤
McDonald's quarter-pounder beef is the only patty they offer that is not frozen. When you're REALLY hungry, go for the double quarter-pounder with cheese. It sits in your stomach like a brick for at least 5 hours! You won't need the fries or drink unless you need something to "wash it down" with.
Their numbers may be declining, especially after COVID-19, but my favorite burger chain by far is still Fuddruckers! You guys definitely need to give them a try sometime.
In the world of burgers, McDonald's burgers get a generous 3, maybe, on a good day. Carl's Jr's/Hardee's is good if they have enough staff, a 7 maybe, but it's usually old, dry, and crazy expensive. Dairy Queen probably has the best ingredients, so it's a lot like a backyard burger, but it's made better, probably an 8, but again, very expensive. Five Guys is also an 8, if you eat in -- but they wrap in tinfoil, so it'll be a mess of goo from the steam before you get it home -- and it costs a fortune. Burger King is in the sweet spot of value and a good burger, a 6 or 7 imo, but far cheaper than similar burgers. Wendy's has the best fries, but really that varies between locations and the age of the oil. Extruded fries don't rate, cut potatoes only. Most local drive-in's or mom and pop burger shops do far better food at comparable prices. At the chain places you sacrifice so much for not being able to wait five minutes. It's actually a pretty predatory industry when you look at the development and marketing. Fast food companies operate like drug dealers as much as they possibly can.
The "Big Nasty" cheeseburger is always the way to go. Five Guys is awesome. You should try "Whataburger," and "In and Out." They're the closest to Five Guys, but CHEAPER!!!! (A #2 double Whataburger meal(or triple burger) with large fries and SWEET TEA is the best VALUE! 😁
My favorite is Smashburger, but they don’t have drive thru’s. Come to the West Coast and try In-N-Out. I haven’t seen a Hardee’s in the West, but could be wrong. Never been there, but you guys made it look good! And, McDonalds fries are simply the best!
Wouldn’t it be great if the USCIS would fast track citizenship if you could eat 8 fast food burgers in a day?! Haha. I enjoyed the video. Kudos to you both for indulging for a day.
1:50 Well, that's either brilliant or not. What I mean with the latter, is that my stomach can't handle the Big Mac sauce. At least I think it's the sauce. So instead, for me the Mac sig is the Quarterpounder. 12:49 Probably because eventually I just ordered a portion of onion rings and curly fries when I... pased at BK. That's what they do well. Just like nuggets at the Mac. 19:18 Yeah. To me American food is blueberry pancakes and jambalaya, for example.
I have to try Culver's! Five Guy's is good for me. I loved In N Out when I was in California. I've never tried Hardees but now I will give it a whirl. McDonald's is still fun for me because they had me when I was 7. Memories from McDonald's carry a lot of weight. Pun intended.
As a Wisconsinite, I love Culver's burgers. They're my favorite. I usually order the double deluxe butter burger without onions since i don't like them. Also it's nice that you can order a side of cheddar cheese to go with the fries. That's what I've started doing with mine for something different. Edit: Personally I think Five Guys and Wendy's is overrated, but that's me. Burger King is my second favorite after Culver's since I love the mayo in their burgers but everyone is different.
Yes, Culver’s is better…however a lot of us have to settle for Five Guys because we don’t have Culver’s yet! I do have to say though that the service at Culver’s, Five Guys & Chik Fil A simply cannot be beat!!! They are beyond excellent, & they always go above and beyond to help customers!!! 🥰💗🥰
Prices went stupidly high this year, including beef. In order to keep prices down, restaurants decreased the size & amount of beef in their burgers. I dont know if I would have eaten so many burgers in one day like you did. I salute you!
No in and out, no whataburger, no cookout, no krystles, no dairy queen, no white castle, no Jack's ( not the same as jack in the box), no checkers, no backyard barbecue
I had a Dairy Queen single burger with mustard, onion and pickle for lunch yesterday. I don't even remember the last time I ate a Dairy Queen burger. The one yesterday was so delicious. I loved it! Very good hamburger.
Absolutely correct. Most of the U.S. is one big street with every conceivable chain store and restaurant in the U.S. I mean there are some places that with nice towns or cities, but in between - it's malls, chain stores and chain restaurants.
Haha, anyone of those burgers will look like your Five Guys burger if you go inner-city. I stopped eating normal fast food except White Castle and the occasional cheese burger from McD's. I'd like to hear your take on White Castle sometime. Congrats on your citizenship!
5:15 Thankfully not all of the US is built with that suburban sprawl hellscape. Well designed, pedestrian oriented cities and towns can be found but you definitely have to look. Unfortunately, most modern development is similar to the hellscape seen here

The best one is McDonald's. First of all the price is the best. And the beef is good. But what's good about it is, it's not too thick or thin. And not too messy to eat in the car. Good value. That's why it's the largest burger chain in the world.
Best burger: Burger Nerds, which is a local burger joint. Meat comes from a local butcher and the buns come freshly baked from a local bakery.
We do roasted green chili burgers with a fried egg on it in Colorado and that's my favorite.
In Amsterdam you have halal fried chicken thay have great beef burgers
If Phil tried every burger in the US, it would take thousands of years.
haha probably!

Would be great if you could do also some more road trip videos.
Back when Red Robin still had the 5 Alarm Peppercorn burger and their chili cheese fries, it was one of my all time faves (I am not sure if they put crack in those chili fries, but they were so addictive). Last time I was in the states I went to RR and they no longer had either the burger nor the fries on the menu... so disappointed :(
The best burgers in the US can in my opinion be found at the little greasespoon diners and the bars (student bars and blue collar working people's bars)
1) Rodeo burger, swiss on rye, at the Peanut Barrel in East Lansing, MI
2) Firecracker burger (with added bacon) at a tiny place called Miller's Corner Bar in Columbia Heights, MN
3) A place called Clover Grill on Bourbon Street in NOLA (I know, don't go to Bourbon Street, it's a tourist trap, but that place was awesome, a little further up from all the booze joints)
Honorable mention for weirdest burger: there was a greasespoon in Detroit on Cass, between the Labyrinth club in the basement and City Club (Shitty Club) on the 2nd floor, which had an ice cream burger on the menu... and it was just what it sounded like: a burger with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My then partner decided to try it out of curiousity, and then had me try it as well... it was weird AF but strangely awesome
To bad no In-N-Out on the east coast.
We need to try In-N-Out and Whataburger!
@@DeanaandPhil Don't forget to look up the secret menu before going to In-N-Out :D
If you do try it, be sure to get your Double Double _with_ onion. It needs it for balance. Ordering it no onion is a common mistake people make. Ask for grilled onion or animal style if you can't handle raw onion.
Poor Phil! - I sympathize with getting FORCED to eat a lot of delicious burgers 😂
Forcing Phil to eat burgers is like forcing him to have sex. 😂
If you ever come to Portugal and want to try all the fastfood we have here at once, every big city here has one or more big shopping malls and the top floor always has lots 15-25 different fastfood stalls to try.
idea just for Phil,
a "Get Germanized " burger with a beef Schnitzel, a good German cheese, German mustard, red cabbage on a Bavarian pretzel bun.😅
Das ist nicht nur für Phil gut, das würde ich auch mögen. Wir haben sowas ähnliches. Ich glaube deiner Idee kommt Krustenbraten mit Semmelknödeln und Rotkohl oder Schnitzelbrötchen am nächsten.
@@Unomann translation, my German is very limited.
Poor Phil being forced to do this in the name of science. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten! 🤣😂
😂😂😂 You guys are such a great team and you help me leave the USA and eat without spending money awesome 😊
I saw Dave from Wendy's in a parade , on a float, in Savannah. On St. Patrick Days. He was waving and smiling. That was shortly before he died.
Thanks that I can my comments in German, too, because sometimes my English isn't good enough to express my self exactly.
I feel like your cholesterol is now American, Phil, if not your citizenship. 😂
He looks healthy to me…
Actually the worst thing is all the bread which makes you fat and gives you diabetes
Awesome videos guys. Would love to see a part 2 of America's burgers
I live in a Greeneville too lol not in SC tho
Thanks a lot for your hard work 😁
Thanks! haha never again 8 burger stops in one video!
You need a Whataburger
Any Shake Shacks near you? And looking forward to you guys trying In n Out. Next Local burger joints.
A Whopper is much better than a Big Mac. Judging on the bun *maybe* the McD bun is better but over all the Whopper is better
sounds fake but ok
And neither is any good.
I liked Jr. Meal with extra veggies.
“You shouldn’t praise the day before the evening” LMAO that is so German of Phil 😂
Hi Phil, once I read a review of Hans im Glück that was auto translated into English, it said the citizen was very tasty!
What burger is the best. Curly fries are the best as they are seasoned.
Supposed to be Whataburger. Dam auto correct. Lol
Tried Culvers a couple months ago -just not worth buying.
@@richardpare3538 It wasn't as good in my area the last time I went either, but probably much better in more populated areas like Milwaukee.
The drive thru's are hilarious. 😅
Not fast food
Btw, Culver's looks like the upgrade of a Whopper!🤣 EVERYTHING on it! Maybe fresher? Yes, Hardee's.
quite entertaining, thank you.
I actually remember when there was almost no fast food restaurants anywhere. I'm over 60 years old
MacDonald’s “secret sauce” is no secret. It can easily be copied….many recipes online….usually a mixture of mayo, mustard, ketchup, and relish.
you missed. checkers i dont know if you have it there
If you ever come west, the Hardee's franchises in the western U.S. are called Carl's Jr.
Burger King is my second favorite after Culver's since I love the mayo in
their burgers but everyone is different.
I went to Culvers three times, each time I tried different items. Everything I tried was terrible. Haven’t gone back
Prices went stupidly high this year, including beef.
I was thinking they should have went there the whole time I love Dairy Queen cheese burgers.
Absolutely correct. Most of the U.S. is one big street with every conceivable chain store and restaurant in the U.S. I mean there are some places that with nice towns or cities, but in between - it's malls, chain stores and chain restaurants.
Congratz Phil!! Welcome to America sir!
I saw a cookout and surprised you didn’t stop there for the burger challenge
I miss Culver's! We used to have one in my town but it closed :( Whataburger is my go to now.
Need to see In N Out and Whataburger!!
Hardee's is called Carl's jr. On the West coast
The Whopper is my favorite/my treat after a full day driving back from Atlanta to Gainesville, FL.
Haha, anyone of those burgers will look like your Five Guys burger if you go inner-city. I stopped eating normal fast food except White Castle and the occasional cheese burger from McD's. I'd like to hear your take on White Castle sometime.
Congrats on your citizenship!
I loved this review❤
However ironic that you chose South Carolina to post. Reason being said, historical roots come from Hamburg Germany. Hence, the name "hamburger." The very first restaraunt to serve the hamburger was a place in South Carolina. It was originally served with onion, pickle, and mustard on bread slices. Wendy's understood this and so
flipped it on it's head and © the meat in a square. There clever marketing department termed their phrase "never cutting corners." An ode to not compromising their burger product 2nd to none. Dankaschen❤
Loving your food-posts and cultural reports. More of these, please.
The mess at the end I can relate to.
"forcing you". Cmon man just say you really want burgers haha
5:15 Thankfully not all of the US is built with that suburban sprawl hellscape. Well designed, pedestrian oriented cities and towns can be found but you definitely have to look. Unfortunately, most modern development is similar to the hellscape seen here
