The amount of info in this short clip is amazing. My gen went off waayyyy earlier that expected. Saw that spillage. I thought I'd have to change parts but I fixed it all up myself
Many thanks for this. Fixed my leaking fuel bowl just as shown in the video. One thing to add, before you refit the float turn on the fuel for a second to flush the hole the pin goes in.
Thank you!!!! My onan 4500I started flowing fuel and would not start. After taking the side panel off, I found it was leaking from the bowl. I removed the bowl and found a tiny rock inside of it. The last fuel up I was suspicious about. It had a rotten smell. I think the rock came from bad fuel. I emptied all the gas and put the bowl back together and it fired right up. This was all done after watching your video. Great job!!!
I bought a new generator (Westinghouse) from Amazon and the carb is leaking. Amazon said they couldn't take it back because of hazardous material laws. They credited my account and now if I can fix this carb, I got a new generator for a little bit of hassle. Thanks for all your information. You taught me a lot.
Hurricane Ida and no power. Couldn’t figure out why my generator was leaking fuel till I found your video. I dismantled the carb, cleaned all the pieces, put it back together and it started on the first pull. 6 years without running and old fuel in the tank caused a massive lacquer buildup. WE GOT AC AGAIN!!!!! Heat advisory with 96% humidity to boot.
A HUGE thanks for the vid. Bought a darned-near new Toro generator at a garage sale for $25. Had spark and compression, but no fuel. Previous owner left gas in the unit for a LONG time, and tried to clean it the carb, but still no gas through the carb. I followed you vid; noticed the position of the float needle. Turns out, the needle was clogged and somehow installed upside down. Some carb cleaner on the needle and jet holes, reassembly, and it starts on first pull every time. THANKS!!!
Extremely helpful video! Despite it being different than the carb on a Kohler Series 3000 (on a logsplitter) I have that was leaking fuel from the carb, the visual explanation of the design helped me diagnose and fix a stuck float needle despite never having worked on a carb before.
Dammm thank you for posting this video. I was getting a major headache trying to figure out why my generator that I bought 8 months ago was gushing fuel from the carb. As soon as you said the floater sometimes gets stuck I lightly tapped the carb with a screw driver and bingo it started working good again👍😁
Hahaha I've been fighting with my generator for 2 days trying to figure out why it didn't start. I was holding a screwdriver when I read your comment, tried your tapping trick and it started right up! Thanks 👍
Thank you very much I was on the job site and my generator started leaking so I did your trick and it work instantly thank you very much! Save me a couple hundred bucks!
Mine was not leaking, but your video was very helpful!!! After taking it off and draining any fuel in the carb, I could tell there was a problem when I tried to blow air through the gas inlet on the carburetor and no air went through. The float needle was stuck up resulting in virtually no fuel flow. The float needle had crusty residue on 2 sides that needed to be cleaned to make it move freely again. Again, my problem resulted in virtually no fuel flow... some would trickle over several few hours (overnight) so it would start for about 30 seconds and then stall. By the way, I had to pull out my float pin with needle nose pliers because it was stuck in good and then clean it quite a bit before reinserting it. Thanks for the insight.
Always happy to help! Make sure you also clean the petcock bowl (at the bottom of most petcocks to catch debris) keep an eye on the fuel filter that sits above the petcock. This filter can get blocked and result in low fuel flow too! (Similar can be seen at 4:36 in this video: ruclips.net/video/ioAgCqPhUfg/видео.html) Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much for helping me out with the genny, its been sitting for a while bleeding gas from the carb, had it done while in the machine. Thank you great video, im a subscriber! 🍻😷👍
@Generator Guru Your carburetor looks similar to mine (small garden generator 900w). Where to buy the seal to the screw @0:17 and carb float bowl seal gasket @0.20 (which you didn't take out)?
They have them in their Carb Repair Kits. If not just ask them on their contact us page on the website. They were very helpful with my need for a gen they did not have listed. 1 email and they found me the part. I had looked for years before they helped.
Could not stop the gas from pouring out and about ready to take my generator to the shop. Followed your directions and yep, one tiny particle in the needle. Runs just find now, thanks!
Thank you Generator Guru! Tomorrow I'll be checking my generator needle, for a reason am learning I got a leak between my carburetor and the air filter so, tomorrow I'll take care of it.
Thanks for the video. I just took my carburetor out of my 15 year old yamaha EF3000iSEB. I pulled the float and needle apart. the needle clip has two small feet on it - is there a right or wrong direction when attaching the needle back on the float? unfortunately I haven't seen any debris that might have caused the float to stick. waiting on some other parts before I fire up the genny . take care
No the needle can go either way if I remember correctly. Sometime they stick on the plastic at the end of the needle if sat dry for a while. Glad we could help!
Thank you so much for demonstrating! You're a great teacher as well. I know nothing about generators and I'm a girl...my husband wants me to learn how to clean the carburetor and put it back in the generator... but I messed up and the bowl was very loose that gas leaked into the air filter. My question though is if gas and oil get into the air filter how do you fix that and does that mean the air filter is ruined completely if it's mixed with gas and oil?
No! Your doing just fine! The fuel in a FOAM air filter will dissipate and if it is the foam type, will not need replacing unless it was already ready to replace and falling apart or dirty with particles. If you have a PAPER filter, it will prob be ok too so long as the paper has not ripped and gonna allow a load of dirty air through. If you do want to replace it, that is ok too, and most air filter are not too expensive on generators and small engines. If you want to double check by sending us a photo we can get an engineer to have a look at a picture for you. We don not charge for advice, but you will need to contact us on our website so we can get the right engineer with experience of your generator or engine to assist you. :) www.generatorguru.com/need-help/ > Engineering & follow the questions. FFS! I was cleaning the carb on an old storm cat generator and NOT ONE video shows what that little pin was for. I thought maybe it was from something else in my garage. Time to reopen this generator and fix it once and for all. Edit: And done. You just saved a small generator from scrap. 👍
Whoop Whoop! Well done! So glad we could help. :) They are great little generators too. FYI, If you ever need parts in the future we sell them here: generatorguru.com/storm-cat/ If you ever need advice our engineers are happy to help and we have repair guides here: generatorguru.com/need-help/ Thanks for the feedback. Does this work for the powerhorse 4500 watt generator because it only has 50 hours on it and I already gave it 2 oil changes I did one with 19 hours and the other with 46 hours using synthetic oil
That sounds like the float needle has degraded if this trick didn't work. If you replace the needle (or carb) this will fix the issue. If iyou have any questions please contact our engineers on our website and they will guide you through it. :) Parts available here: www.generatorguru.com
I swapped tanks on my predator 212. Couldn't get the engine to fit into my Coleman ct100u. Now that I have swapped tanks, I'm having gas leaking from the carburetor as if it's flowing into the carb too much. could it just be the needle?
@@Generatorguru Damn bro! I changed spark plugs to an NGK from the old torch. And cleaned the carburetor and needle out and BOOM! THIS THING IS SCARY FUN!! lol!! Thank you!!!

Hello, is there a video about replacing a rotor or stator? My generac needs a new rotor, and I just bought the part.
Not yet, but Donyboy has a good one: ruclips.net/video/RsNJLd7j0Yk/видео.html

Will this work on a Powermate 9" Edger? Mine is leaking a lot of fuel from beneath the carb.
I should think so. But been years since I work on that engine. Please let me know how it goes. :)
How can i get carburator parts
We sell over a million parts on our website www.generatorguru.com :)
What was it that you changed or did to stop it from leaking? I'm missing the point. You took float and needle out and reinstalled.
Yes that is correct. They often get stuck so we released it and made sure the spring was returning the float.
When I turn the knob on the generator to “on” gas starts flowing from the overflow tube. Would this be an indicator that the float is stuck?
Absolutely. That's what my issue was.
Oh. It's a woman
