This TINY Part Can Cause Your Generator to Leak Gas from the Air Filter [How to Fix!]

  • This video will cover the primary reason why a generator is leaking gas from the air filter and how to fix it.
    As a general rule, a generator will leak gasoline out of the air filter due to the float needle and the seat having a compromised bond. This can be due to a deformity or tear in the rubber needle or seat, stale gas that has turned to varnish, or any debris that has gotten by the fuel filter.
    An improper seal will cause the gasoline to keep filling up the carburetor bowl and eventually overflow up into the throat of the carburetor and out the air filter.
    Replacing the float needle (or seat -- which ever one is rubber) and cleaning the housing for the seat with carburetor cleaner and a Q-tip should get you back in business.

    Legitimately, Cheers for getting straight to point instead of talking about irrelevant trash to make it a half hour video. Will subscribe because of this point.

    I can't believe that this video is from 2021 and is helping me in 2024. I'm dealing with this problem and your explanation was very helpful. Thank you for the very good tutorial and explanation.

    Have now used this to clean house siding and it performed well ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX I also bought some wand extensions which enabled higher washing without needing a ladder. I recommend both. This unit arrived quickly, was easy to assemble (only had to attach the handle), and arrived in perfect condition. The only very slight downgrade from a perfect score is the design has a low handle and requires pulling from the side. My old washer was an upright model, while this one is more horizontal. Other than that, it's perfect for my needs. It has a great deal of pressure and more easily cleaned the house siding, porch rails and concrete than did my older model. The engine is a bit louder, as well, but the total time to clean was reduced by the more powerful spray. Did I mention it starts on the first or second pull every time?!! I am definitely happy with this model.

    We have used the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    Is it normal for the crank case to be pressurized whereby when I unthread the oil fill cap, the gas-tainted oil shoots/flows out?
    Also, how many times should I change the gas tainted oil? Drain, fill, drain fill etc? Thanks!

    I wise thing to do is to add a shut off valve since those generators are rarely used.

    Great Video--Question for ya-- I have a 2 Westinghouse DuelFuel Generators that I use propane only. One never leaks and never has. The other one does exactly the same thing as described here. When running, it's fine, but if you turn propane on with generator OFF, the propane "weeps" slightly out the airfilter. I am 100% positive this is where it comes out. I used a sniffer. Initially, I replaced hoses and regulator. Could this be my problem as described in you video? Again, my other generator does not leak and propane is connected 24/7. Thanks in Advance!!

    My generator leaks gas inside that OHV cover and goes out through that hose into the air filter box and wets the air filter. What would cause that?

    I have a Predator 3500 inverter generator and I am getting oil in the air filter, it only has 600 hours of run time on it, do you know why

    • @HomeBatteryBank
      @HomeBatteryBank  2 года назад

      First thing I would check is the oil level while the generator is on a level surface. Too much oil in the crankcase can build up too high of pressures and the oil will work its way up into the valve cover and then travel to the air filter via the breather tube (the rubber tube that runs between them). Also, running the generator on really uneven surfaces or tipping it while moving it can cause it. If that's not the case, and your engine is worn down a bit (grooves cut in the cylinder, piston rings not making a perfect seal, etc.) then you could have blowby which will be a gas/oil mist that can work its way through the same tube. That's what I can think of right now without looking at it myself. I hope you get it fixed! :)

    What about a brand new carburetor leaking out the air breather? I can't imagine the needle or o-ring defective?

      May be the needle doesn't sit properly due to dirt or the rod and float not well assembled
