  • Rebuilding my own front calipers on my 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7 4x4, showing how I did it, I am no expert so use the information in the video at your own risk, I just decided to make a video of how I did it and the issues I ran into along the way.

Good job!! Showing your mistakes really helps too. The small seal that you didn't know where it went is when you take the four bolts that hold both side of the caliper together. There are two rubber seals in there to keep the fluid from leaking between the two precisely machined parts.

I kinda wished I had seen this before pulling the caliper off of my 4Runner. First thing tomorrow, it's going back together with the old rotor so I can get those other pistons out. Thanks for he video!

Thanks for taking the time in making the video. I needed to replace the seal on my truck and you just showed me how fairly easy it is to do so.👍🏽👌🏽

Nice job. It helped me that you didn't try to hide the mistakes and troubles during the job. I make mistakes all the time and wonder what to do next sometimes so that helps. Thanks for the video

Yeah I thought it best to leave them in, you don't learn much from perfection all the time lol

That o ring you didn't know what it was for is for between the two halves of the caliper.

I got to give you credit for showing your mistakes and admitting that you did it wrong. Great job for trying.

Yeah well I thought it was important to not only show the right way but things a person doing this for the first time might screw up like I did, but I do show the correct way in the video as well

FWIW, I think the little o-ring you were putting on the bleeder screw actually goes between the two halves of the caliper castings that seals the brake fluid. You didn't take the bolts out that hold the two halves together. I enjoyed your video.

Great job! I was thinking of freeing up the stuck pistons while on the truck too. Glad I saw this gonna give that a try. thanks.

    Does Toyota sell rebuild kit?

I never actually thought to check, most likely they do and most likely they are 10 times the price

So I’m changing the driver front brake pads and one of the pistons was stuck half way and while trying to even out the pressure one of the pistons fell out.
Would my factory caliper able to be saved and refurbished or did it break and needs to be replaced?

Dude thank you so much period and backyard. Carpenter. Capable human being. Language. I'm dyslexic so looking at things in books and shit unless it has lots of picture doesn't mean anything. But RUclips has been a God sent for me. Now I rebuild all the motor is on the neighbors and my own pit bikes dirt bikes. Mini bikes. RC cars. And BB guns. Remember back in the day if you bb gun went to shit Yad throw it away. Now you can buy an o-ring kit at Harbor Freight or at Ace Hardware store and fix 50 BB guns at a wac for about five bucks. It's been driving me crazy because the Sequoia has had a rattling every time you hit the brakes at high speed I put new brakes on it two years ago the mechanic said oh it needs new brake pads we put new brake pads in it and after they seeded it would still have that rattle. So I did the front brake pads in my driveway tonight because they were so easy it's unbelievable you didn't even have to take the caliper off and one of them was one like that just like yours on the outside. I hope that by decompressing them I would save it but I noticed that the robber looked a little shady. But I put the pads in. Drove around for 20 minutes stepping on the brakes trying to get them seated and burn off the first little stinky smell from my wife wouldn't bitch. I brought up to 50 miles an hour and slammed on the brakes after I felt that they were working well just to make sure if it's still drove straight when I hit the brakes and it did. But it still had that rattle. I'll get the kit and see what happens cuz like you said 80 bucks for a caliper plus the core charge. And everything is really expensive now so I know I can take care of this myself. Whatever kind of Grease you were talking about that they were using would have to be silicone base. Because it's touching rubber. Brake fluid is silicone based because it works with rubber. So that should be fine. You just don't want to use for trolling bass stuff with rubber because it makes it right that's why they use silicone. Anyways thank you for making this video you did a great job I especially liked the part where you left in the way you did it the wrong way so people would not do that. Up here in Massachusetts. We call that it looks so nice because we did it twice. Nobody gets everything right the first time and that's a fact. Love God bless. Bob Ross

lol hey thanks, yeah I thought it best to leave the mistake in and show that cause honestly without a pretty good explanation someone might do that as well and thought leaving it all in was a lot better than just removing it, figured at least someone wont have to do the "the only way you learn is by making mistakes" mantra, since I made them for you lol

    *Outstanding!*
When u buy an after market rebuilt one , they still cost $$$350 PLUS DOLLARS EACH.
*PARTS STORES , USUALLY GIVE YOU A CREDIT IF YOU RETURN THE OLD CALIPER*
BUT BY DOING THIS YOURSELF YOU SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EACH CALIPER, BY SIMPLY BUYING A LITTLE $5 DOLLAR REBUILD KIT, and of course BUY YOUR TIME TO PATIENTLY CLEAN IT UP GOOD*
*HOW MUCH EXTRA FLUID IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO GET THEM PUSHED ALL THE WAYNOUT. AND ALSO HOW MUCH TO BLEED THEM AFTER EMPTYING THE CALIPERS OUT?
