Love seeing more reviews with 90's LEGO. The best era in my opinion.
Nice details, like those flags on the crane. If anyone is interested they mean "I have a diver down; keep well clear at slow speed" The blue and white one is the international one, the red one is the USA version.
For a '97 set this is pretty awesome.
No I'm not. I am however saying that Lego has had a pretty big quality spike.
The old sets are good but not *as* good.

Wow, this must have been one of my first ever LEGO-Sets! It's sooo nice to see it again!
Fun fact even if the big boat does not float the base plate does, as a kid I had to hold it at the bottom of the bathtub with magnets.

man, love these 1997 diver sets, got one for my birthday as a kid and is to this day one of my favourite sets.

Jang I had this set when I was a kid. The torso you received for the blue cap guy was actually the correct one, with the big oval dolphin print and no sleeves, and not the one you replaced with (with the long sleeves)
Also the sub guy with the red cap has slightly different variation from the divers torso, without the pressure control print. He was supposed to have yellow hands actually.

Deep Sea Divers was one of my favorite themes from the '90s. Jacques Cousteau was one of my heroes.

a skeleton underwater? some sea creature died, sank to the bottom, and decayed. We're used to Lego being cartooney!
There are a few other themes that weren't all afraid to get gritty; Mars Mission, Aqua Raiders, Indiana Jones to name a few
I got this set for my birthday as a kid, it was awesome.
Really like the seafloor build on this set.

It looks like a bat ray, besides the spines. It could also be some variety of eagle ray, looking at how it moves above the actual seafloor. Hard to tell.
Ah, these along with Aquazone were some of the last sets we had as kids. Good times. Never had this particular set, but it looks cool. Boat bridge could probably easily be closed in with some modification.

This set is so cool! I love deep sea Exploration sets! and it is really great they used the big ugly rock pieces as caves. :)

You could use 2 of those stud with bar to display minifigs with flippers, since they have a hole at the bottom?

Seeing the thumbnail I actually believed that this was a new set! In conclusion the set have aged amazingly!
Cant wait to see this in jang city...
on the mini sub, it's not entirely set accurate, but the lights above, if you took the sane clip piece, and angled it downward on the middle bar, it may encourage the canopy to stay closed
or even swap the canopy out for the newer, notched hinge canopy

I have this set, well it was my older brothers, and it's in pieces
I really want lego to put more terrain into their sets, similar to what has been done in this set. It's fine to have subthemes within the city brand - such as the recent diving or volcano subthemes - but I think people have had enough of the same types of sets being released year after year. I'd love to see some actual CITY buildings in my lego city.

Oh, that's so weird regarding the wrong torso.
Only a few weeks ago I went through my old collection, including this set. And I had the exact same "wrong" torso for that minifigure. Maybe slightly different versions of the set were released?

I think all the sets in this series were meant to be played at the edge of a table or something. They work fantastic having the boats on the table and other stuff on the floor. Thats how I did it,

People could Just hace used a tower of brick to rise the boat from the base. I really like this set
does water ruin lego? Say you put this in water for a long time for realistic show, would it mess up the lego?
the lego itself should be fine, but the stickers might peel or come off
