I found something that will take advantage of all those megapixels. You will like it because it gives you more reach. I always used the "Sports Finder" mode with my X-T3 and my 70-300. It automatically crops "both" raw and JPEG 25%. The crop is framed so that you can see subjects as they approach from any direction before they enter the composition. With the X-T5 its a 29% crop. My 35mm F2 is effectively a 45mm F2 with the press of a button. Alternately, my 18mm F1.4 becomes a 23mm F1.4 and my 27mm F2.8 becomes a 35mm F2.8. My compressed lossless raw files are about 42MB regularly and 31MB with the crop, plenty of data left. I cannot see any image degradation in raw or JPEG. This means that for street I can use two primes and forget about a zoom entirely. It also means that I can reposition myself closer instantly. This capability along with the 3 way tilt screen makes the X-T5 great for street photography.
Nice video. I sold my X100V (which is a great camera) for the X-T5. I wanted to do a bit more video and feel it works great for my use. I have the 23mm F2 but find using the 27mm F2.8 WR perfect and still keeps that compact feel of the X100V. I also really like the 40mm equivalent focal length.
I was almost about to trade in my X100v and buy the X-T5 but due to the fact that I love the X100v so much, I couldn’t convince myself to part with it. I needed to sell it to be able to ‘afford’ the ridiculous price of the X-T5 and kit lens (almost £2,500) but ended up keeping the X100v, and buying a Sony @7 III instead. So now, I use a Ricoh GRIIIX, A Fujifilm X100v, a Sony @7 III and an iPhone 13 Pro.
A whole year later, but I'm evaluating this particular camera. One detail *really* stood out in this whole thing: we've probably got enough megapixels now. Half of what I do in post is try to fuzz down my photos, so yeah.
Wow... I don't know how I haven't come across your channel before but I'm so grateful that I did just now... the quality of your content is so good! The B-roll in this video and the way you edited it with the square format, the melody behind and your calm demeanour... I was hooked from the beginning and I can't believe how fast those almost 15min passed. Great work! New sub, all the love from Scotland!
Great to see someone celebrating the video specs of the X-T5. Most reviews dismiss them, despite the increased video spec over the X-T4 which was celebrated as a true hybrid when it was released. The reduction in the 4k 60p crop, addition of 4:2:2 10bit, flog 2, 240p and improved stabilisation, make it a very strong video or hybrid option.
Good one, Faizal. Thanks. Very chill, very specific, hands-on, helpful, encouraging. Turns out it was exactly what I was looking for today. Shooting on A7C and X100v right now and looking to upgrade on Fuji end. This could be it.
Man, Faizal, the photos you included in this video are so damn good. Your video style is as pleasing as ever but I’m really loving the photos you’re making right now. Hoping to get an X-T5 at some point soon. Thanks for adding to the craving. Haha.
Good video and nice voice. Background music was also good I'm considering to buy fujifilm xt5 . I have the Q2 but miss some lenses Do you edit your Raw files in LR?
Just bought an X-T4. My first intro to the Fujifilm Ecosystem. Arrives Monday. pumped. I had the Sony a7iii before and I agree, shooting images on it just wasn't my favorite and I was honestly bored with it. Great camera... just lacking flavor in my opinion in stills AND video tbh. Thanks for helping solidify my move even more with this perfectly timed video lol
If your main priority is just photography I'd say stick to the X-T4! The image quality of the X-T4 for video is more than enough for a lot of people too :)
I have an X-T3 and as a photography only Fujifilm user I can't justify the jump, though IBIS and honestly the Nostalgic Neg sim are almost enough. One thing that's tough for me is the move from photometry under the SS dial to movie-stills selector. I see why it's a must of you're a hybrid shooter, but I switch photometry all the time and I like the way all my customizable buttons are mapped - I couldn't bear to give one up for photometry! Anyways, great video and I'm glad you found a camera that is going to work well for you!
Faizal! Not too sure if you've found out the solution to separating the settings between video and photography... but there's a "Movie Optimized Control" setting under "Movie Settings" that allows you to override the current camera settings (ie. if you set your shutter speed to 1/125) and lets you change the shutter speed/ISO, etc via the command dials. Obviously not the same as having completely separate settings, but it's a workaround and it does work pretty well I hear.
I know it’s uncool, but I’d really like to see somebody test out the skin softening or skin smoothing whatever they call it. Everyone I ask just says I don’t care about that or I don’t shoot that way. I want to see if it works for video like it does on the zve10 and the a6700.
Good video! The only issue I take with your comments is about street photography. I’ve been a street photographer for over six years and using the XT4, I can tell you the lens makes a very big difference when photographing people. The older lenses left me wanting in their hunting and the unsharp images. And believe me, I have tried every combination imaginable to get my images sharp. So upgrading to the new 18 1.4 and 33 1.4 was an absolute joy, as my percentages went up bigtime on getting sharp images! Older lenses I had to use limit focus and still deal with slower focus problems. 🖖
To each their own! The 33 might be an exception since that lens is rather compact too. I just personally never felt the need to have more image quality than the images I’ve been able to get :)
I'm with you Faizal...no one asked for touch screen on a camera. Fuji I hope you are listening with the X100VI (Give us back the DPAD). Great video as always, Faizal! 🙂 P.S. Another thing no one asked for is Focus By Wire ;-)
Cool that it flips up for vertical. Wish the X-E4 did that. The X-E4 flip screen drives me nuts with how it uses the eye sensor to flip the screen and you basically can’t shoot from the waist.
I got a 2nd hand xt100 with a broken shutter button. The touchscreen feature saves my passion for photography. I can shot thru the shot screen button. Already asked how much for the button repair and I find it unaffordable 😢
Thanks Faizal. Love your videos. I’ve learned so much watching you. I’ve owned the x100v since it came out and just added the XT5 to my arsenal. Thanks for all you do for us hobbyists.
Well, I agree ! …. The f2 s are great … although I chose to upgrade to my 33 1.4 so I’m at 18 1.4, 23 f2, 33 1.4 and 50 f2 ./. That for me is the perfect setup … I can use it in lowlight and for easy light street setup
I learned to really like the offset viewfinder on the x-e4, and especially what it contributes to the flat top aesthetic and size. However, the sweet spot for the viewfinder on the x-e4 always felt a bit fraught - like looking into binocular, it wasn't as easy to look through as my x-t3 and I usually had to micro-adjust the position of my face to get a clear view
Hi, I love all your videos. Your style is very relaxing and informative. I’ve been a micro 4/3 user for over 10 years. A few years ago a also bought a Fuji X-109f. I love that little camera. Because of that I’m now thinking of selling my micro 4/3 camera and lenses to purchase a Fuji XT camera. I have never purchased used equipment so I’m leaning towards the XT-5. 14:54 What’s your opinion? Is this an over kill? I’m not a professional photographer, I just enjoy photography.
I've been going back and forth on this or the XH2s and this vid reeeeally helped me out, man. I'm moving to chicago and i'm stoked to get back into shooting photos for myself. As much as I would love the video capabilities of the XH2s... the price point is a bit much. It's crazy that I can get the Xt5 for $1600. I'm really stoked to get into it. Big love!
I hope they release an X-PRO4 with this sensor and this screen. I have zero need for the video features and absolutely love the form factor of the Pro series.
I thought I wouldn't need the new 33mm f1.4, but after trying it, the speed and image quality improvements are undeniable compared to the older generation of Fuji lenses. The size difference to me isn't a problem if it means getting more shots in focus at the end of the day 👍🏼
Hi! What do you think of the pancake lens 27mm 2.8? I wanted to get the 23mm for my street photography. I have a 16-55 which is way too heavy for that. I was quite sure about the 23mm but the I saw the 27mm which is more compact. What do you think?
The x-h2 has 5M dots - I have used one and the EVF is amazing. However for me the X-H2 body is too bulky and does not feel as nice in the hand as the X-T5 when I am out and about,, so chose the X-T5 as the 3.69M is enough.
I saw in some reviews that the Fujicrons aren't good for videos as the focus would sometimes hunt. Did you find this to be the case? I'm planning to get an XT5 and looking at getting either a 16mm f2.8 / Viltrox 27mm f1.2 or the Fuji 23mm & 50mm f2 as these combos comes to about the same pricing. My final choice is veering towards the first as I will be using the XT5 for videos, but truthfully, the Viltrox is a bit huge for me :(
Nice video! Keep ‘em coming. I am definitely curious about your further thoughts on xt5. Also, what I’ll be curious to see is what are you going to use for filming yourself if you want your camera in the frame and shoot yourself while for example, taking a photo if you’re only going to bring one camera body with you 🤔
A great question. Whenever I travel I just won’t have anything other than my GoPro or iPhone to film myself taking a photo 🥲 there’s gonna be trade offs somewhere and that’s one of them. If I’m home then I’ll just use my Sony since I won’t be getting rid of it
@@FaizalWestcott yeah that makes sense. I am having the struggle myself having to carry around 2 cameras… well more choosing to carry around 2 cameras. But it’s doable. What I need to work on, is trying to be able to match the clips that come out of two different camera bodies to look similar because I am using my iPhone quite a lot too.
Beautiful work once more Faizal. I am actually thinking seriously to invest more in Fujifilm, sell the XT-3 and get the XT-5 too. I am not sure if it is a big upgrade from the XT-4 but I think it has significant differences from the XT-3. Especially, in the auto focus area and of course image stabilization. Also, like you, I have been using Fuji for street and Sony for video. So, getting everything in one camera will help to minimize and clean up my kit a bit.
Loved your initial perspective of the X-T5. I just got mine two weeks ago and have been shooting with an X-T3 since 2018. I don't see a difference in image quality between the two yet. I skipped the 4 because it got bulkier and had the flip out screen and I don't shoot video. I agree with most of your wish list and would add a few things. The bigger front and rear command dials are easier to grab but the Menu system is still awkward in some areas. (Drive modes as an example) Also, the touch screen does not work to make menu choices and changes. As for the X-E4, better viewfinder with bigger eyecup, X-T5 LCD design and bring back some of the physical buttons... Great video!
@@karinjohnstone6690 Not sure what to recommend. So far, I'm not seeing a difference in image quality between the X-T5 and X-T3 but the AF on the X-T5 is definitely more robust than the X-T3. I'm not a qualified reviewer but I think you would enjoy either camera if you like the size, etc.
I enjoy your videos. I'm primarily a prime lens photographer (16 f2.8, 23 f2, 35 f1.4), but when traveling with my wife and others, when I don't have time to consider which lens I'll use and change to, a 'normal range' zoom might be handy. I see you were using the sigma 18-50 f2.8. I was wondering what you think of it. It doesn't have the aperture ring (which I would prefer), nor OIS (but I have the X-T5 that has IBIS). But it's small, light, the price is right and has the constant 2.8 aperture. Any opinions? Thanks.
I got the sigma purely for video and travel. I do wish it had the aperture ring but for the size and weight you can’t beat it when it comes to zoom lenses
Hey Faizal! Absolutely loved this video! Agree with a lot of your views. I do have a question though but about that sigma 18-55 2.8 I'm curious what lead you to use that over lenses like the 18-55 (kit) or the 16 -55 (red badge). and mostly how you like it! I've been considering upgrading my 18-55 for quite some time
How do you find the X-T5's video IBIS with the 18-50? I've been using the 18-50 with my X-S10, and I dont mind the shakiness of the IBIS as much as the wobble effect I often get on my footage when walking. The stabilization in your samples look similar to what I have on the X-S10, but I dont see much wobble.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Faizal. I'm considering getting an xt5. The xt3 was such a nice camera for me but I figured I wasn't using it to it's full potential, so I got the xe4 (which is a great camera of course). Now that I'm doing more photo and video combined, I kinda want something more secure. Maybe I'm going to pick one up, but time will tell. Looking forward to the video about how you set up your xt5
Good stuff 👍🏼 Making a camera is constantly finding the perfect balance. Better EVF and IBIS? Faster battery consumption, etc 😊 We are so spoiled today. I remember composing by looking at the top of my Hasselblad before digital times... Any EVF is 10 times better than that 😄
About the EVF, the XH2/S has the better evf, Leica's SL2/S has the better EVF. They just want to differentiate their product lines, both in function and price.
I create content for a church, and have a side gig making content for local businesses. I use a BMPCC 6K Pro for that. I love that camera. I’m always very happy with the images. But, I’m looking to get something that is more photography centered for creating stills content for those same clients. I’m considering the XT5 because I love my x100v but wish I had the ability to use longer lens with it. I am also considering jumping up to the XH2s for the addition of its video features. Having a camera with good autofocus opens up some different video options for me that are limited in a solo run and gun situation. Do you have any thoughts on this? Is the lower resolution of the XH2s going to be a bummer for photos? Will I find the video features of the XH2s compelling enough to pay the extra cash?
Great Video Faizal! On a side note, how do you feel about the Sigma 18-50? I’ve been thinking about getting one for my XT5 as the only zoom lens I have is the 16-80, but would like something with a lower f stop.
What do you edit your photos with? I’m looking to switch to Fuji, but I edit in Lightroom on my iPad and apparently LR’s sharpening ruins the fine details..
@@FaizalWestcott right, good to know! I seem to remember you have an iPad too. Do you use Capture One’s app on there too, or just never use it for editing?
Whenever I travel I mostly stick to a GoPro but if I’m back at home I’ll just use my Sony still! I usually keep video filming days separate from actual photography days
Hey Faizal, what a great review! I was just wondering if you think the Sony a7iv does anything better than the Fuji X-T5. By better, I mean anything which is less obvious from the specs like full frame sensor, or 10 bit colour, etc.
I do like the Sony video image quality, dynamic range, and IBIS better than the Fuji. Which if dealing with just video is reason enough to go with it. I also wish that you could program the video function buttons and photo function buttons differently on the Fuji like you can on the Sony.
Great video! Does the X-T5 have the capability to shoot video at low shutter speeds? (1/2 1/4 1/8 1/15 etc). I know Sony camera's can but I don't want to switch from my Fuji ways due to the photography experience you get from Fujifilm.
Nice vid….the off set viewfinder, I find doesn’t do much for me. Whether I shoot an Xt camera or xe camera or Leica…..after years of shooting I see the shot regardless. But what happens in the mind is where the perspective comes first.
Problem with those F2 primes is that they are a lot worse IQ-wise than the corresponding focal length of the 18-55. So if you're shooting at F4 or smaller anyway, which as a street photographer you probably are most of the time, just bring the zoom. And if you're a lens sniffer looking for 'character' just get an M42 adapter and try any old manual lens.
The 4x3 (or so) ratio of the video is so cool! Makes vertical images look better, and somehow feels calmer. Love it
I did exactly the same. Currently using the XT5 and the 33mm :)
It’s honestly the most versatile fuji that exists!
I also did the exact same thing. Absolutely zero regrets.
With the insane prices for the x100v you probably had some money left over after having bought the xt 5 🤣
I was almost about to trade in my X100v and buy the X-T5 but due to the fact that I love the X100v so much, I couldn’t convince myself to part with it.

HEY Faizal I wanted to know where did you get the square lens hood for the 35mm lens!! Thank you
Hello! What do you use to film this video/b-roll?
How do you get the achor link on the wrist strap so close to the camera? Is there a special trick to tie the anchor link to the camera?
Fantastic video mate!
great video! what camera did you shoot this with? did you crop or use an open gate mode for the 4:3 video?
Did this get answered in the comments somewhere?
Hi Bill, I can't decide between the XT5 or a used XT3. I have the x100v but find the focus not brilliant. Any advice?
@@karinjohnstone6690 Not sure what to recommend. So far, I'm not seeing a difference in image quality between the X-T5 and X-T3 but the AF on the X-T5 is definitely more robust than the X-T3. I'm not a qualified reviewer but I think you would enjoy either camera if you like the size, etc.
Did you shoot this in open gate on the XH2s?
I've been considering upgrading my 18-55 for quite some time
Great review. I love my XT5, so far. Weird question, what parka/coat are you wearing in the video?
The black one? It's from Uniqlo
Can I please ask what the opening effect is? It’s soo aesthetically pleasing 😊
Which effect?
@@FaizalWestcott The one at the very start of the video with the filmic blue and red everything with the squarespace text and your name
Thank you for your videos 😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Faizal. I'm considering getting an xt5. The xt3 was such a nice camera for me but I figured I wasn't using it to it's full potential, so I got the xe4 (which is a great camera of course). Now that I'm doing more photo and video combined, I kinda want something more secure. Maybe I'm going to pick one up, but time will tell. Looking forward to the video about how you set up your xt5
Are you gonna keep the xe4 btw?
any plans for reviewing the sigma lens? that would be awesome.
Yes please!
Is that zoom lens the sigma 18-50mm f2.8? If it is, how do you like it?
Love the aspect ratio, much better to include pictures ❤
Good stuff 👍🏼
Making a camera is constantly finding the perfect balance. Better EVF and IBIS? Faster battery consumption, etc 😊
We are so spoiled today. I remember composing by looking at the top of my Hasselblad before digital times... Any EVF is 10 times better than that 😄
About the EVF, the XH2/S has the better evf, Leica's SL2/S has the better EVF. They just want to differentiate their product lines, both in function and price.
Dope vid dude and asmr voice too 😅👌
Yes, that's why I said at its heart this is still a 28mm lens. You can't replicate a 50mm just by cropping into a 60 megapixel photo
Do you have any videos on older series models xt10 for example?
Great Video Faizal! On a side note, how do you feel about the Sigma 18-50? I’ve been thinking about getting one for my XT5 as the only zoom lens I have is the 16-80, but would like something with a lower f stop.
I use that, really like it can recommend
What do you edit your photos with? I’m looking to switch to Fuji, but I edit in Lightroom on my iPad and apparently LR’s sharpening ruins the fine details..
I use Capture One !
@@FaizalWestcott right, good to know! I seem to remember you have an iPad too. Do you use Capture One’s app on there too, or just never use it for editing?
I never edit them, fuji color simulations are amazing
How you gonna film yourself with out a second camera tho?? The best review of the xt5 yet and I’m annoyed how tempted I am to upgrade my xt3😅
Even tho I’m predominately a canon shooter, you have made me fall in love with fujifilms aesthetic’s 😂
Great videos dude, always a joy to watch
Great video! Does the X-T5 have the capability to shoot video at low shutter speeds? (1/2 1/4 1/8 1/15 etc). I know Sony camera's can but I don't want to switch from my Fuji ways due to the photography experience you get from Fujifilm.
Hi Faizal, love your video man! 🙌🏻 i was wondering what brand of the lens hood that you use with the 35mm? it looks sick man! love from Malaysia! ✊🏻
It’s from squarehood!
one day I'll get my own X-T5 I promise!!! 🤞🤞🤞
5:01 Thank you for gatekeeping for *all* of us.
Great video! Would love to hear your thoughts on the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8.
Great idea about having a QR code!
The new firmware has improved the AF tracking significantly imo. If u have an X-T5, def worth the upgrade
I got a xf16-55 & 23f2 with me(but no body now) and Im kinda torn between the nikon zf and xt5…
How’s overheating
Do you have a fav f2 lens wider than 23mm? 18mm?
I don’t own any fuji lenses that wide. Usually shoot with the 35mm f2 most of the time!
YES. Was waiting for this one, Faizal. Just sold my X-Pro2 and got my X-T5 to get a little more hybrid
Waiting to see your experience in Morocco
Finally 😎
I love your voice
I don't know why but I see marks of Saul Leiter in your photos.
one day I'll get my own x-t5 🤞🤞🤞
I be forgetting you live in Boston, which is the initial reason why I follow you lol
