How very articulate he is!, and what an attractive personality! As an amateur, however, I find some of the discourse about the ever-rising levels of performance rather depressing, for we amateurs are also fighting the good fight, making a contribution to keeping the love of music alive. I don’t particularly want to live in a world where if someone blows a shift he or she won’t be invited back to give another performance. I believe Fritz Kreisler said he was grateful that his career had flourished before the era of recordings, for perfection is alien to the spirit of performance. The mania for Perfection seems to me so joyless. This is not to say that we shouldn’t all try to play as best we can, only that the emphasis should fall on the pleasures of playing - on how much intellectual satisfaction exploring music can bring, and how much social pleasure there can be in playing quartets with friends, and so on and on. One of my mentors-a philosophy professor at Amherst College-was learning violin when he was a boy, and was taken by his father to hear Heifitz play. He gave up playing violin the next day. How very sad, this seems to me. And I suspect that this kind of daunting, frightening spectre of perfection or impossibly high standards has a stifling effect on many who would otherwise found their lives much enriched by music.

This was mindblowing, for real. I'm actually in violin, not cello, but the details about posture in the beggining of the video and specially the mid part, when you start talking about nerves and how to practice "performance" as in practice being calm... and not just "practice the piece without stops", that is what I used to do. This changes everything. I have realized a few years ago that the feeling of going on stage and being so nervous is lack of practice. I felt that. But I couldn't see where the problem was if I had practiced so much. Now I see it, it IS lack of practice. Lack of practicing being serene and practicing being on the day of performance... Practice the moment just before the performance. That needs preparation as well... of course! I was going to the stage unprepared, and that's exactly how it felt. Thank you so much. All the best!

Este video fue publicado hace un año, yo lo acabo de ver y puedo decir que fue tan increíble poder escuchar a estos ídolos hablar de sus propios ídolos, de sus miedos y nervios antes de subir a un escenario, cuando en realidad nosotros pensamos "puff son unos genios" o "se ve tan libre", "toca sin preocupación" pero en su cabeza es todo un mundo y un reto a la vez...
Realmente estoy agradecido con vos Pablo, te hablo como un amigo por que es tan personal y tan lindo ver videos así que simplemente te sentis cercano., este video fue algo increíble Realmente gracias por ello

I am a pianist, but I love hearing how you, as cellists, put yourselves into your music. I love how Moser talks of how the music comes from his whole body, and later, how he and Ferrandez talk about feeling nervous, about learning from others, and about being human!
I am now listening to the music of the cellists with whom you talk in this series, as I feel that I know more about them as people and that they are not just musicians! I wish that I could have learned to play the cello!

I can’t imagine if I was a kid and I got the chance to have you as a teacher?! Dude! It would be mind blowingly awesome please please please please do become a teacher! You are up there in talent and care; man you so could do it! 👍🏾
I think you shouldn’t tell students to accept feeling bad on stage.. I think it’s the opposite- learn to see this hypersensitivity as the BIGGEST gift of your body: it’s sharpening your ears,your eyes, gives your muscles almost superpowers xD ..and so on. Don’t call it nervous- call it “super sayan level 3”. Isn’t it awesome to be able to be like that? Wouldn’t it be kind of “empty” without this focus :) ? The mindset and words you use will establish your feelings for things. It’s ALL about your attitude. Came to learn this a little late- BUT learned it! :) But great talk anyways!! Thank you for these videos:D

This was an absolutely awesome interview! I loved it Pavo! I think he is one of the most preeminent cellist on earth along with yourself I want to see so much more of this kind of thing and have you and your guest, you know play a little bit with one another, working out some problems; and being able to articulate your emotions on what you feel especially during this time of pandemic. I think it is awesome! Kudos! By the way do you ever think you could actually land a Skype interview with Yo-Yo Ma?

This is so interesting and awesome and feels so honest! These episodes help me to understand the cello masters of our time as relatable human beings. I love that you are talking about so abstract things like energy and the history and future of cello, while still discussing concrete passages on the cello. These interviews will be invaluable for the future generations.
I really love the idea of experts interviewing themselves - such interviews are just on another level, compared to those standard question by journalists. I would love if this honest format would be utilized in other disciplines as well (like politics)!
I had a similar feeling when I watched Everyday Astronaut's interview with Elon Musk (ruclips.net/video/cIQ36Kt7UVg/видео.html). They went so deep, that they even forgot that they were recording an interview.

Estaría muy bien tratar con un cellista barroco para poder tratar las diferencias, la cuerda de tripa, repertorio, etc. Me parece un tema muy interesante que acogería a un grupo mayor de gente y sería una forma muy buena de acercar al mundo barroco a los que desconozcan de él.

Thanks Pablo for doing this. Interesting topics, though completely unnecessary, maybe a bit lack of class for J Moser to take a stab at Starker. He talks about legacy and the need to contribute to the cello world, well I don’t think he reaches the shoe lasses of J Starker on this aspect. It might not be his cup of tea, maybe it was a bad night for starker, there are definitely some of those from JM on the internet. Anyway, thank you again, refreshing!

Tengo una pregunta que creo que nos puede interesar a muchos: Muchos días por la mañana o al principio del estudio mi cuerpo, mis músculos y artículaciones están un poco agarrotados y me cuesta llegar a sentirme relajado y sacar un buen sonido en el chelo. ¿Te pasa esto? ¿Qué ejercicios recomendáis para acelerar el proceso de llegar a estar relajado y sentirte en el máximo de tu potencial lo mas rápido posible durante el estudio? It's called a posture peg
To avoid neck pains
It's a shortened peg, tightened with an Allen key. So that it doesn't stick into the player's neck. Or you don't have to sit awkwardly to avoid bumping it.

MikelsSlv It’s called a Posture Peg. Makes it so you don’t need to tilt your head to avoid the C Peg. Some players have them for both C and G.
