    Every review I've seen of the I30 N has men laughing and giggling with glee, that's never happened in a golf, or a Ford, or a mazda.. The last time I saw adoration this unanimous was when the original Type R integra stepped on the scene.. From what I've seen so far, the N is the clear choice . Once the after market gets a hold of it, this car could be a giant killer.. I don't believe the suspension is too hard, i think its overtired, it needs 18's 45 series to flow better with the road

    • @Warsheep2k6
      @Warsheep2k6 6 лет назад +1

      Bobby Bass i See People Constantly do it in the Polo though, its the immaturity with Fake missfires and a Bit more road contact also see old reviews of the mk5 gti

    • @thepeoplesaffronttojudea5280
      @thepeoplesaffronttojudea5280 6 лет назад +18

      For me, I could careless for the backfires, its the fact everyone who drives it drives the piss out of it the whole time, that mean its engaging, and invigorating to hustle. You can see it in this review, when he was driving the golf in the countryside he was poodling along like a grandmother. When he was in the N, the scenery in the window was a blur as the car encourage him to push.. That quality is only found in very few cars .. And the Golf no matter how far you go back into history, never gave that feeling .. The killing blow for the golf is you can't turn the stability control off.. And that is just plain unforgivable

    • @Warsheep2k6
      @Warsheep2k6 6 лет назад

      Bobby Bass you can say what you want but exhaust crackling and rougher road contact will get you going. BUT if I'd spent 35+k on a performance hatchback, that should make me giggle it would be the civic type r(for the added performance) or a Leon cupra 300 (for staying with the golf qualities and added performance) the i30n while being a cool car on it's own just doesn't kick it for me far enough in any direction. Too expensive to beat a polo or fiesta st for giggles/buck not refined enough to get into true golf territory, not fast enough to go with the type r or cupra r 290+. It just gets a bit overhyped imo for just being a 'better' golf gti when there are so many alternatives. Also I do think the upcoming Megane rs will outshine them all on pretty much every aforementioned position

    • @thepeoplesaffronttojudea5280
      @thepeoplesaffronttojudea5280 6 лет назад +12

      I hope you enjoy the dealer and your mechanically troubled type r .. The Type R is $50,000 where I live .. The N is $36,000, a $500 retune and the type r is toast.. I wouldn't buy a Leon if you payed me .. None of those cars are engaging or fun, the N sure seems to be.. Facts are facts , people are talking about the N, not any of the others ..

    • @Warsheep2k6
      @Warsheep2k6 6 лет назад

      Bobby Bass the type r is constantly talked about and where I live it's 36000 euros which is en par with both of them. You don't need to like the cupra r it's still faster at an equal price tag and as far as i could say the n doesn't feel that more engaging then a gti on a twisty backroad it's just that the golf is around for so long that gives you the craving for something... let's say different without straying to far . Like I said and that is just for me I'd go with a type r as it just isn't any more expensive here. And the fact that it's in everyone's mouth is just because of good advertisement.

    I work for a Hyundai dealership here in England.
    When we got our first demo i30n delivered, we took it straight off the transporter and out for a test drive on some country roads.
    I know it was a special car immediately, the electronically controlled LSD does an amazing job through the corners.
    Yes it's not the fastest hatch in a straight line, the interior quality is a bit low-rent, and it would be a tiring car to drive as a daily in many ways, due to it's back breaking ride and constant exhaust drone.
    But, the positives are many, and it does do a lot of things very well, while being great value for money compared to it's competitors.
    On top of that, 2 years down the line, we have not seen any common issues with these cars, just a few things wrong with individual cars, which happens with any brand or model.
    I am proud to say I work for a company that can produce such a great car, on it's first attempt at that particular market segment.

    In all fairness, the i30N wears 235/35 R19 P Zeros Vs 225/40R18 (probably Conti SC6) on the Golf. That makes significant difference in Golf's cabin noise reduction and more refined ride. Swap those wheels around ... and you will feel the difference on how much less refined the Golf will be. The P Zeros are noisier but real performance tyres with massive grip.

The engine's design is rated for 500 WHP. Detuned from the factory for legal reasons. Emission laws, a vehicle can't be sold in the US with a standard 400 WHP with a curb weight of 3000 Lbs. very well said. Everyone is so quick to jump on Hyundai's bandwagon because of a drag race on a video lol. GTI as a whole package all day every day. It's only a $500 tune away from being very very quick and even stock they are quick enough and the real world fuel economy is WAY better than the Hyundai.

    • @lelov1392
      @lelov1392 4 года назад

      Agree 100%. Comfort, interior quality, refinement is more important than track times! 👍
      However, you forgot to consider RELIABILITY! Its a big factor to consider in terms of ownership. IMHO, I believe that the GTI is one hell of a car! It’s the best daily in terms of comfort, refinement, performance, size and its understated look will age quite well. Two of me mates owns GTIs, so I’ve driven it occasionally. The car really impresses me every time!
      I was close to pulling the trigger and getting me own. Twice, I was in a VW dealership, ready to sign for one. Every time, I also changed my mind and walked off!
      The deal was, every time I thought of the RELIABILITY ISSUES they have to put up with over and over again, it just discouraged me. It’s no fun, and it’s not cheap!
      Over time, one can get used to a not so impressive and plush interior or a less refined ride, but one CANNOT just simply get used to something that gives you headaches and drain your wallet! The 362 days is unlikely for the GTi, cuz it will spend sometime in the garage coz of the reliability issues!
      Lesson learned: I like driving the GTI...BUT I wouldn’t to own one!

    I love the new i30N but were the driving conditions that bad? The GTI manual consistently gets mid/upper 14’s. 15.26 at 93mph is either awful launch, bad shifts, bad conditions (or paid advertising by Hyundai). The GTI still would have lost even with normal times but it would have been much closer.

    Nice Review. its just that the last line didnt go quite well. If one need every day car, why would one spend so much and go for GTi. Rather go for a standard Golf and they would live happily ever after.
    If one wants performance the N makes much more sense. It evoques yous senses with the bangs and pops and the noises, that makes one giggle. That is what i would call a complete package. The i30 can dial it down to be a every day car is a good bonus.
    So as i see it, the Golf GTi just plays too safe and to be throughly enjoyable!!!!

    I only sat in an i30N at a car show but I disagree about it feeling cheep inside. It felt solid and german and everything looked nice. I think Golf's interior has a nicer design but I'm not a fan of the hard shiny surfaces. Also i found both of their interiors nicer than that of the new Megane RS. Also regarding the pricing, not sure what's offered on the Australian market, but in the UK there are 2 variants i30N and i30N Performance (which is the one tested here) The cheaper one has 250 rather than 275 BHP, no LSD, no rear brace, and 18 inch wheels which brings it closer to the GTI and it's 6000 aud less which makes it cheaper than the GTI.

In canada we are not getting this model we are getting the Hyundai Vorster N with the same motor as this i30 so the Vorster is going to be lighter then the i30 so can't wait for that car to come in Nov 2018.

However, I love it reminds me of a modern crx also almost 200 lbs lighter and the veloster N just one the TCR championship in its first year of competition. The important thing is you bought what you like and are happy with it congratulations on your purchase. Maybe in a few years there will be people doing an engine swap into the Elantra GT and make there own I30N 👍

    Ill never understand why performance car reviewers these days will force a manual transmision show down just because thats all one of them offers. This applies to many other channels and comparisons than this one. Unless you state that the goal is to keep the price the same then you should be testing the highest performing version of each car. The GTI with DSG gear box and launch control may have still lost the 1/4 mile but it would have been very close and its .4 seconds faster 0-60. Its not the GTIs fault that hyundai doesnt offer such an option IMO.

    Hyundai is notorious for ripping off the design of its competition. Whether its BMW, Ford, Mercedes, etc. Just look at a Ford ST. Practically the same, except for the badge. Just get the real thing. I'm happy to see Hyundai making more reliable cars but they really need to work on originality. -- Besides, with an APR Stage 1 tune ($750) for the Golf GTI, you'll be over 300 whp and 350 lb/tq... which is plenty for a FWD car. EDIT: Just heard the U.S. will be getting the Veloster N. It's unique and original, unlike any other design on our market. I drove the regular Veloster and it was ok, a bit rough on the road, but i enjoyed it.

      If the sole purpuse of a car is to get you from A to B on a daily basis in relative comfort...you may as well buy a regular 1.5 TSI Golf. It will do that job just as good (if not better) as a GTI. The GTi is a as redundant as a daily driver as it is as a hot hatch. It's too fast for one thing and too slow for the other...aka 'warm hatch'.

    • @Shabec2982
      @Shabec2982 6 лет назад +12

      TheDudeInTheRedHotHatch that is true as well but... most people (80%) will take a 3-5 year finance deal on either of these. I just think for something you’ll be using for that time you’ll want the better interior and overall build quality of the VW. Not to mention a larger after marker influence IF... you decide to go that route. Overall the VW is the better buy.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +5

      What's the purpuse of buying 220 hp to use it on public roads only? Paying more taxes than you need to? Collecting more speeding tickets? The interior quaility on a Golf 1.5 TSI is exactly the same as in a GTI so that's not a reason to go GTi. What you gain in resale value you will have spent double equiping the Golf to modern day standards when you bought it. I understand Australian market is somewhat different, but over here in Europe EVERYTHING is an option on a VW.

    • @Shabec2982
      @Shabec2982 6 лет назад

      TheDudeInTheRedHotHatch that’s where you are. In the states, most of those options are standard. Can’t say I understand your market because I’m not from there. But where I’m from, there’s a reason you see VW’s everywhere.
