      The pops and bangs are real trough the exhaust, its a form of anti-lag to keep the turbo spooling. Check out the channel "engineering explained" on youtube. The exhaust has electronic operated valves so you can put the exhaust in quiet mode when driven around town and loud when racing down the country lanes.

      LOL the I30N looks like a station wagon. To each their own I guess. I drove the Elantra GT Sport the other day which is our version of the i30 - really a pretty terrible driving car with an awkwardly designed interior and an ok engine.

  • @e1337prodigy
    @e1337prodigy 6 лет назад +35

    If you can't live with the stiff ride, don't put it in sport/N mode. Those are too stiff for our crappy potholed UK roads yes; but there is a custom mode, so set that to soft suspension and change everything else to how you want. Sport/N mode are only for use on flat roads which we don't have here in the UK or use on tracks.

    • @ParkersTV
      @ParkersTV  6 лет назад +1

      Agreed, but it is still firmer and more uncomfortable than most of its rivals even in normal mode.

    • @Woudam
      @Woudam 6 лет назад +4

      Parkers
      But why would you have comfort in a hot hatch/performance car? It's like buying an Aygo and then complain that Toyota didn't build it big enough to transport your dinertable in it......

    • @robv1139
      @robv1139 6 лет назад

      We don't have roads at all there anymore, one pothole took the wheel out my hands the other day, and I was driving a double decker!

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh 6 лет назад

      Woudam it's a hatchback still, which means it will be used on normal roads often. If you drive a lot, you'll get sick of jostling suspension and hard seats. If you only want a track car, maybe something else than a fwd hatch!

    • @Woudam
      @Woudam 6 лет назад

      Rennie Ash
      Then again, why would you buy a hot hatch? You buy a hot hatch in the first place for performance and excitement, that's where the Golf loses a lot of points.

      @ "All I have to do is modify my car to be better than the Hyundai".. you just said it yourself... then what happens when you modify the Hyundai ? it will smoke the Golf.. let's be real, the only people who say bad things about the i30n are Golf owners.. because the Hyundai destroys the Golf in literally every aspect.. apart from price and that's because the Golf will cost you MORE to get LESS.

      Yep. So in N mode it was rock hard (no complaints there, as that mode is designed for track use). In Normal mode, however, it was still very firm and not as comfortable as the Golf GTI. Not intolerable, but probably one of the firmest standard rides of the current hot hatch crop.

      Golf is easy prey for the i30N in a drag race, it is simply way down on power. An Australian test put them at a proper drag strip and the i30N blew the GTi into the weeds.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +6

      Joe Maybe because a hot hatch is supposed to be a car you take to a track once in a while but is still practical enough to perform more mondaine tasks? Since you can’t take the GTi to a track for more than 15 minutes...if it was any other brand it would be cold a ‘warm hatch’.

    • @todddelgiudice8258
      @todddelgiudice8258 6 лет назад

      Have you driven one? If the Elantra GT Sport I drove is any indication, and it is because it's essentially one level down from the I30n as a "warm" hatch - you'll want to keep your GTI. You can tell a lot about a performance version of a car by testing the lower level of it. The base Golf is a great little car, the i30/Elantra GT is quite subpar in every measure.

    • @tubejorrit
      @tubejorrit 6 лет назад +7

      So not true, I've driven the GTI, Type-R and i30N all in one week. The GTI is a fast Golf, a Golf is a great daily, the GTI is just faster, can't do anything wrong either. The Type-R is pretty hardcore, loves to rev all the way to 7000, feels very fast and planted. But the drive modes are not customizable and rev matching only works in the firmest/race setting. The type-R looks like a spaceship and its a hate it or love it design. The i30N can be driven in different drive modes and all feel different plus you can have a setting where you can set everything yourself. When driven in normal its just like the GTI, a fast i30, but when put in sport, or N mode its a whole different animal. The steering is sharp and direct, the sound with pops and bangs make you giggle, rev matching works perfect everytime and if you want pops'n bangs but not the stiff suspenion you can set it up yourself in the custom drive mode, also the difference between soft and stiff suspenion is night and day and really makes it 2 (or 3 or 4) cars in one.

    • @todddelgiudice8258
      @todddelgiudice8258 6 лет назад

      Sadly the closest we'll get is the Veloster N which I will try to drive when it comes out but I think the I30 looks much better and is much more practical. I just can't daily a manual - I sit in too much traffic. I wish someone else would make a DCT as good as VW/Audi so we would have more options.

    • @tubejorrit
      @tubejorrit 6 лет назад

      Hyundai confirmed there will be an automatic (in DCT form) at the end of 2019 for the i30N and the Veloster N. I can understand that the i30N looks better then the Veloster but they should drive the same since its the same platform they are build on.

    • @todddelgiudice8258
      @todddelgiudice8258 6 лет назад +1

      tubejorrit - thanks for the info, that's really good news. VW is starting to hike up the price of the GTI to what I think is too high for 2019 (up another $1100 base price) - luckily I got a fantastic deal last week on my '18 so I'm good for now. I will definitely consider the Veloster N with a DCT when they release it. It does seem like it will be a fun car.

      Loko Motion it beats it by simply having for power.
      The current golf platform has been there since 2014 and at that time the power it had was really good.
      But then you can get dsg, which will compensate for the lack of power.
      Between you and me, would you choose the i30 n only because it can outrun a gti in a straight?

    The base I30N cost £24k and that's if you don't care about getting the electronic LSD, sports exhaust and an extra 25bhp but it has almost everything else the I30N performance has which has a base price of £28k. The best part is both come with loads of that standard equipment which would cost quite a bit on the golf GTi such as the satnav and apple car play and android auto. There are some differences in spec between the I30N and the I30N performance but they pretty well equipped. FYI the BASE Golf GTi 5 door manual without any options STARTS at £29K, the base golf GTi 5 door performance pack with a manual STARTS at £30K

    You all didn’t seem to mention the best parts of the i30. Did I miss the part where you can change almost every part of the i30 suspension, steering, exhaust, engine performance, and launch control. How about the crackling exhaust. Really you said none of this. You act like the i30 is just like a GTI, it’s sooo not! GTI is boring and acts like they did 40 years ago. Evolve VW

      Parkers I heard it, but even that was done when both the VW and i30 were both revving their engines at the same time. If you didn’t know the i30 sounds that way, many would think it was the VW making that noise. Mentioning the i30’s unique exhaust, launch control, and the 1,900 ways the engine/suspension/exhaust may be configured would have been nice. Look at the review by Straightpipes on the i30 for example. I did enjoy your video though.

    What about the CUPRA 300?! It's usually put in the same category. Isnt it adjustable suspension optional extra on the golf?

      Good point, but I suspect the other videos you've watched pick a manual Golf for the same reason as us - the Hyundai i30 N doesn't have an auto 'box option, so it wouldn't be comparing like-for-like.

    The Veloster N is going to be the i30N.5. I’ve heard they have tweaked some things they have learned since they released the i30 N in Europe. Plus it’s not even out till the end of the year so there is still room for improvements. Hyundai’s goal is to be the golf gti killer and I think they have done it. Besides the interior it’s kinda blah. The noises these Hyundai hatches make stock is pretty awesome.

  • @AkarZaephyr
    @AkarZaephyr 6 лет назад

    So, here's the difference between the two, in a nutshell:
    - Golf's for the city pantomime of starting from the lights, while at the same time being reasonably comfortable;
    - i30N is for track use and will eat Golf GTI after 2 laps with ease; not so easy to live with every day though.
    Personally, I would get the i30N because quality of the interior may be in Golf's favor, but quality aside the design is so boring that it's almost in contrast with quite nice exterior design.
    I don't buy this "slow evolution" argument if what it means is that the dashboard shape hasn't changed in 30 years. Enough with the old, it should stay in the past!

      SuperGeronimo999 the hyundai front end "is" outdate. Their LEDs are still doted like in the old LED's from 2010.
      The gti has smooth LED's.
      -outdated in my book
      The i30 front has nothing ground breaking. When you lunch a new model, it needs to stand out from the pack and the hyndai doesn't.
      -outdated in my book
      The interior is a total flop, it look old and seems to use old tech, old school gage cluster. Even the older gti has one.
      -outdated in my book
      The gti does not need to be flamboyant to stand out and not look outdated since it's a classic and a good recipe never gets outdated until it's not a good recipe. In the gti case, it's still a good recipe, it outsoles all of its competition grouped together.
