Great video. Dude you got to get ahold of ESP and get a zilla 2 chassis before he stops making them again. Love your channel. I've watched all your videos, in 37yrs old from ohio your videos take me back to my childhood...... Bennett Clod-a-lever then you got something
I’m thinking of getting this clod. I been wanting one forever. It will be my first one. I was wondering if you had the part number for the bearings handy.
Definitely get it while you can because it might be discontinued soon. Here’s a link to the bearing kit www.fasteddybearings.com/tamiya-clodbuster-sealed-bearing-kit/
😁👍 Sweet upgrade! Nice tip on taking the motors out easy. I would definitely get some steel Robinson racing pinion gears in it with those 15T motors that soft tamiya pinions will melt away like butter!
Kenny Radaich yes I did have a clod collection video but for some reason it got a guideline strike I have no idea why but instead of disputing it I just deleted it. I’ll make another one again someday
Hey man loving the videos. Just started to build my Super Clolodbuster black edition never seen one until your videos and I'm hooked. I'm reading a lot about the steering being weak on these stock. Is there anything I can do to make it better while keeping it as close to stock as possible. Also do you recommend loctite for the metal screws and nuts?
It’s funny you asked me that I’m actually working on a steering video right now lol. What I do is on the front axle steering bell crank there’s three holes, the manual says to use the middle position but I use the one that’s farthest forward closest to the bumper, it gives you quicker steering and a little bit more throw. Only thing is you might have to bend the tie rod slightly so the rod end doesn’t hit the bumper. The only parts I use threadlocker on are the three pivot ball screws on the trailing arm
I highly recommend the Holmes Hobbies “Retro Sport” motors for anybody with a Clod they want to keep brushed. These motors were specifically brought to the market by a small company just for Clodbusters. I can’t find much on RUclips about these, so I’ll try to make a video of my own while the snow is still deep and convincing. I just had a pair of 17t 5 slots hit my mailbox today!
It also bothers me that you still use a regular #2 Philips screwdriver on these trucks. They are JIS, not #2, and you do see a difference with using factory Tamiya screwdrivers, makes it that much nicer. It’s like the difference between using the right socket on a stuck metric bolt vs using the closest equivalent SAE size.
Have you considered running the stock motors on 3s? A hobbywing 880 seems cheaper than 2 motors if you already have the 3s, but I don't know if the stock motors would hold up to 3s.
@@hinnmanfamily I tried the hobbywing 088 with stock motors on 3s and it's a blast! I can really recommend that, not too fast and not too slow. Ideal for the clod

Yes that’s correct the front motor is supposed to be reverse rotation but if you get a zero timed motor you can just reverse the leads. I didn’t know tamiya made a 95 mustang I’ll have to check that out, those cars are cool

I would not recommend using the stock Tamiya aluminum Clod Buster pinion gears even with the stock 540 motors. I have never been able to get those to last very long so I do not even bother with them at all any more. Steel 32 pitch pinion gears with various tooth counts are not very expensive so I always just use them from day one in any new Clod Buster project. I'll let Clodbusted answer your question about using the stock aluminum pinion gears with these particular HPI motors though as I have no experience with that specific motor set up as shown in the video.
@@RC-ty5ym I run those too I have them in a few of my clods. My local hobby store usually has the evx2 in stock more than the hobbywing and I like to buy local but you’re right the hobbywing is awesome
Just got mine today finally. Now to find time to build it.
You ain’t kidding about the clodbuster such an icon. Can’t wait to get another one and get that soldering iron to awesome video
I had the same thing happen to my original chassis, so I got the sassy chassis for mine too, I like the fast eddie bearing kits for my Tamiya builds
STEVO D 313 I use fast eddy bearings too, they’re cheap and last a long time
i like this channel cause your videos are straight upto the point no long stories for a small thing. You seem to be a clod fan, arent you ?
I still haven’t built mine, but I have been accumulating parts. Good idea with the hip motors. Nice trail run looks like fun!

@@gribly I've always used #2 on Tamiya with no problems I had a Japanese industrial standard set but most of it got lost or damaged over the years
So does the tamiya esc handle those motors. I've read that as you approach motors 20t or less you can overload the esc.
It overheats if ran hard so I switched to a traxxas evx-2

One more thing what is the ball bearings for I guess I don't understand
The ball bearings replace the plastic bushings Bearings have a lot less friction than bushings and usually last longer
You mentioned that you had a few Sassy Chassis tub frames. If you have an extra one would you consider selling it?
I sold a couple I only have one left but it’s damaged, somehow it got little bent
