Make it yourself or find restaurants with gluten free options. You can easily make your own variations of nearly everything gluten free, but it's best to avoid processed foods in general. Your best friend is meat/rice/veg, my life is now a burrito bowl.

Great video! My response to gluten is headaches and vomiting. I went gluten free 9 years ago before it became so popular. Once I was pregnant 4 1/2 years ago I was told by the prenatal nutritionist that I should consume 5 servings of wheat products a day for a healthy baby. Well, I ended up gaining 60 pounds and after pregnancy developing hashimotos, ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia! I can't prove that it was all because of the gluten but I have a strong feeling that the advice to consume all that bread did not help! Now living paleo/keto and feeling much better!

Oh, blah! No wonder I feel crappy the day after I have something with flour in it. The trouble is that at the church I am a member of everybody seems to be bringing out their breads, cookies, pies, and whatever other baked goods they can come up with that are loaded with sugar and everything else that is not good for the human body. I usually stay away from it as much as possible, and then I hear, "Melanie, you aren't eating anything! Have some!" Yes, be like all of us, get sick and have all kinds of problems, and let us pray for you. I know these folks mean well and really believe they are being kind, but that is what I think as I am attempting to keep a smile on my face and be nice when I refuse their goodies.

Our bodies weren't 'better' at digesting gluten before nor is the problem consuming 'too much' wheat. The problem is the frankenwheat of today. Wheat in the U.S. has been cross bred (GM too?) so many times to maximize production and minimize loss it's flat out garbage wheat. It's of no surprise studies done 50+ years ago show better results. Some people are going to be better than others at handling it sure, on a health level or even genetic.

I noticed when I went to the Dominican that I felt great and lost weight despite eating/drinking everything I could. I am into nutrition and body building, so it came off as very confusing. To me sourdough is the correct way to make bread. Because the bacteria in the bread eats/breaks down the gluten. And the taste is delicious without any unhealthy spreads. But today's industrial food companies shorten that preparatory step to crank out a product. It's a half-baked approach, even though it's really half-prepped.

Then I read IBS books by Heather VanVorus, eliminated *all* wheat and dairy, did a real 'elimination diet' and log. Very detailed and time consuming, but I discovered triggers not realized before and 'cured' my IBS. If yours gets really bad, I highly recommend this route.

Time ago I saw a very interesting documentary (if I find it again I'll link it) where they explained that the flour commonly used in industrially produced bread is different than the one used 50 years ago. The reason is that industrial bread is produced by machines with a lot of hard/metallic parts, which would lacerate a dough made from "normal" flour. Thus industrial bread requires flours with higher amounts of gluten to be worked.
I would be curious to see the studies you just mentioned repeated with handmade bread made with "normal" flour.

💡I remembered watching this video a couple of months ago and wanted to circle back about a gluten reaction I recently had after having no previous known gluten issues. Maybe someone else can benefit from what happened to me. After I ended my 16 day water only fast! I had a huge allergic histamine inflammatory reaction with a red rash, itchy hives and welts that first presented in my lower body (hips, thighs and legs & it was extra bad on the back of my thighs, legs & buttocks). 😳 I went into a panic not knowing what caused it. I had to think fast so I immediately got into a warm bath with lavender essential oil, apple cider vinegar and epsom salt for about an hour. The itchy rash, hives & welts calmed down and I had relief. 😁 Then, not fully realizing what food item was the issue, I ate something with gluten again a day later and bam!...I had the same red rash, itchy hives and welts spread to my upper body this time. I also experienced major migraines that lasts for a couple of days with the other reactions. The only reason I was able to identify the culprit so quickly was because I was slowly integrating foods back into my diet / digestion and I had a diary of everything I had eaten. I knew exactly what food caused the reaction!! The gluten food item caused the issue so I can’t eat food with gluten!!! AMAZING because I didn’t have a gluten problem/reaction before the extended fast or shall I say...I don’t think I did... and if I did it certainly didn’t present itself in that way. Maybe it was presenting itself in other ways that I wasn’t aware of or maybe I was attributing the negative reactions to other foods, but one thing is for sure...I had never had a negative rash, itchy hives & welts reaction like that before! So far I haven’t had any other reactions to anything else that I’ve been reintroducing into my diet (and of course I’m staying away from known intolerances such as almonds & cow dairy. 🤔 Also maybe I had the gluten reaction because I need to rebuild my gut bacteria and maybe my body attacked the foreign item causing that reaction, IDK. I may try a gluten food again in a few months to see what happens but right now, after what I experienced, I’m not willing to try. It was horrible. 😩 I hope maybe this post helps someone else. 🤗💞🤗

How did you break your fast? I broke a 20-day fast starting with watery fruits like watermelon and berries, then watery veggies like cucumber and lettuce and tomatoes, then breads and nuts, and finally meats and beans. There's a proper way to rebuild your intestinal "gut microbiome" as you said at the end of your comment. Also, was the gluten product pure, or did it have any other crap ingredients in it like canola oil or hard to pronounce stuff?

I thought it was trendy too , avoided it for a month . had small amount to test , 8.5 pounds gain over night bloated and word finding problems lasted 3 days . It's real ...mind blown .

I did a food intolerance test and it came up with gluten, wheat, oats, rye and corn intolerances. I think everybody should do this test. I'm assuming my body was fatigued from overexposure to wheat that it has become depleted of grain digesting enzymes and bacteria. I guess that makes sense.

As usual this vlog is also very enlightening. In India wheat is the staple diet along with lentils , kindly advise what substitute you can offer for a health awakened otherwise normal people cannot avoid wheat.

Hey Thomas. Do you know of any acid reflux remedies that are ok to consume in a fasting window? Most antacids have some calories.

    Thomas,
What do you think is causing kids to have gluten sensitivities? So many kids are having similar problems with gluten.

I have never had an issue with gluten, but quit as an insurance policy! I started to suspect that the intake of gluten could be behind certain healthy people suddenly just collapsed and never recovered! These people did eat a lot of so-called whole grain bread....you know that shit that you are advised to eat more of!! I believe there is a connection!

How about all of those chemicals that they add to bread now and back then. Can you explain that. Bread used to last a couple of days, now it is "fresh" for many many more days. Exclude those chemicals, bake bread old fashion style it is much better.
