Most underrated band of all time? Classic rocker with incredible lyrics, tune and delivery. Unlike today's pop crap it evokes real emotion and feeling - makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. Johnette is so awesome.
This is the first song I heard on the radio by Concrete Blond in the late 80’s. I went to see them in Orange ca. There was about 25 in attendance. The Red Hot Chile Peppers were their opening act. True was an incredible song. And now this is the Only version of it I can find of it on RUclips. Joey, a great song, has about a million versions! I remember you, “ True”!
This is my all time favorite song. I only listen to it once and awhile...I don't know if anybody understands. This song speaks to me sooo pointently that a dose of this song once a week is more than enough. :)))
I got this record around 1987 (won it in a radio station contest), right when it came out. I love it so much. True is my favorite song. I also love Dance Along the Edge.
@@joannepopper1915 It's a personal anthem for me as well. It was as if Johnette had rummaged through my mind and found my secret aspirations and vulnerabilities.
I love this song. It's so original and her voice is so strong. And this song came out when I was about the right age for it and I still love it. Makes me feel young again for a second
in 1991 this song inspired me to make a gigantic move and that was to move to California from Florida at the age of 20. I'm still here in California and so grateful that I made that step. It was super scary at the time. I knew one person out here then. It changed my life forever.
I can only add that I have seen them live several times and my main impression is that Johnette is a fearless perfomer. She laid it out every time I saw them.
Absolute favorite song of the late 80s. I'd discovered it once I moved to California in 1989. The song really reflected my life at that time. Concrete Blonde became a staple in my music rotations for years after.
Best album they put out. Johnette you are hot!! Never seen this video- thanx for posting. Ahh....memories- I met my wife of 15 years at a Concrete Blonde gig in Sydney!
I became a Concrete Blonde addict back when i was a pizza delivery driver in the early 90's. I don't recall seein any of their music videos back then for some reason. WHAT A GOLDMINE THIS IS!!!! I'm not sure why I haven't looked up CB music on here before now! Lol!!
This song became a favorite of mine when Jack McCoy used it in a classic Billabong surf movie showing a FEW guys ripping a secluded, glassy left break. Since then, this is required listening when I go off on surfing or snowboarding trips...
I made a move like that in '88 from small-town N.B. to Ottawa, ONT. Scary too, for a wide-eyed kid with a head full of dreams. I have no idea who I'd be today if I'd stayed home. I had The Joshua Tree and this album with me and Johnette still sounds like a warm, wise friend.
Heard a few Concrete Blonde songs in the soundtrack of the sci-fi movie The Hidden. One stuck in my head, "Your Haunted Head". Had to buy the CD, their first. CD's just hit in '86, and it was one of my first. Love "True", the video is great! "Beware of Darkness" on their first album was written by George Harrison. I think the drummer and Jhonette Napolitano had a thing going then. She has such a sexy low voice. Saw the band live in the early 90's at Milwaukee Summerfest. Thanks for posting!
@malkeh2008 Absolutely brother! I was so fortunate to see them play live in my home town in Australia back in the early 90's and they have been my absolute favorite band ever since.
Enjoyed your reply/comment. You seriously captured the essence of it all. Joshua Tree (btw) is still one of my top ten albums ever. The lyrics have been able to bend & blend with my life over the past twenty years. Timeless recording.
Heard this song when it came out in the UK (1987 I think) on the recommendation of Maria McKee. Great lyric set to a nice tune. 80's production cant spoil it.
Hey, that opening shot is the corner of Tipton Road and Highway 111, where the old Palm Springs train station once existed!!! The foundation is still there. And last I heard, Johnette is just over the hills to the north in Joshua Tree!
@goochieguy So you don't remember Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Milli Vanilli, Men Without Hats, A-ha, New Kids or Michael Damian. I can go on and on, and there's always tons o' dreck for every decade. There's also plenty of good and great music, but you won't hear it on the radio anymore. That basically ended in the 80's too.
i first heard Concrete Blonde in a sci- fi movie, I think it was "the Hidden". The next day I wnt out, bought the tape. Pretty much wore it out. My point is I love Concrete Blonde and I am as shallow and superfiscial as they get.

100% agree
Why laugh at this song?

@greghilbers4697 SAME! I Love You Man (no homo)
This is my all time favorite song.

Nah man, I get it.
Could not have said it better myself. It's sort-of a personal anthem for me. Still need to listen to it every once in a while.

I love almost everything Concrete Blonde has ever recorded. But this song is #1. Simple and comforting.
I love this song. It's so original and her voice is so strong. And this song came out when I was about the right age for it and I still love it. Makes me feel young again for a second
ANY age is the right age for this song!

A real gem, outstanding even for them. Full of heart, and fire. I have no doubt this song has saved lives.

I love this song...one of the best! in my opinion. ....but still, awesome music from Napaliano :)
It’s hard to see how this band didn’t get much bigger.
The range of their writing and the feel in their arrangements blows away every band I know of ...and that is a big number, since dirt calls me old.
This song became a favorite of mine when Jack McCoy used it in a classic Billabong surf movie showing a FEW guys ripping a secluded, glassy left break. Since then, this is required listening when I go off on surfing or snowboarding trips...
Johnette Napolitano. God, she was just beautiful. That voice, and she played bass, to boot.
Oxnard Montalvo she always will be
Why are we speaking in the past tense about J~ Napolitano?
The legend is not dead and will never be
This talent will be recognized.

damn nice to listen to a song that sounds just as great today as it did 25 years ago. how many artists out there can put such timeless music?

thx..f.
Johnette Napolitano played in Portland, Or. years ago & I mean, that woman is incredibly talented!!! Always been a favorite.
Wow.....haven't heard this song in a loooong time! Great stuff.........
Found the Concrete Blonde in '86 ....never let down....EVERRRRR!!
Love this song and the instrumental version also. Thank you for your time uploading this gem.
"And if I had a choice, I'd take the voice I got, cause it was hard find".
Their best song in my opinion.
Propagandhi (punk band) did an excellent cover of this, check it out sometime. .
Chanson parfaite. La classe totale !
If I can't walk proud - I'd rather walk away!
@malkeh2008 Absolutely brother! I was so fortunate to see them play live in my home town in Australia back in the early 90's and they have been my absolute favorite band ever since.
@steelearch Awesome that you caught that - I used to drive by that spot all the time wondering what was buried under the sand....
what a great band... and such a TURE woman's voice...

This band is hard as concrete

Wow...so awesome to find this tune
So damn cutting edge back in 84

essa musica aquece meu coração
By far my favorite CB song ever (insert lighter held aloft here).
If this song was never used in a commercial for blue jeans, some heads need to roll
That's funny.
Love this song!
Very powerful, self-assuring lyrics.
I cover this song!
this is a real "good-feeling" music!!!!!!
Great song

This album was ahead of its time. Released in '87 but feels like '92.
I agree 200%

One hit wonder with a gr8 song but at least 5 other gr8 singles.
A one hit wonder? Really? Billboard charts are shite, if that's what you're referencing.
One hit? The Bloodletting cd, alone, belongs in the Smithsonian.
