Had ticket No. 1 for a show they did in Austin back in the late 80s. I thought - like so many others - that they were going to be huge. Addiction destroyed what could have been greatness. Life is hard - hope Johnette Napolitano is in a good place now.
Johnette is not only one of the greatest female rock singer of all times, bringing out so much emotion in every sentence, but also a very underrated lyricist. Her words are just beautiful ! I'm glad I saw CB live three times, it was pure beauty ! Janis Jopin Well it was another era. They were both women, thats all they have in common !
Ah Johnette..........pure talent, emotion and passion your entire life and you have to watch all the untalented pukes rise to the top of the heap. Don't worry......I love you.
Love, love love this song..why doesn't anyone else? concrete blonde was my favorite album from my younger life... the cure and depeche mode made it...why not concrete blonde?
My take on Johnette's voice is simple: the best I've heard. Ironically, I'm from the Joplin generation. Janis was a wailer. Scream your guts out and go for broke. People forget that she had a killer band behind her which helped a ton. But for sheer raw beauty, clarity and power with words, Johnette wins my heart every time I hear her. I once sent her an email--telling her what Im saying now and to my sheer glee, she wrote back and thanked me. She's class and art. Beautiful song.
This was my introduction to CB. Used to work in an office that had MTV and VH1. Saw this vid, bought the CD and, next thing I knew, I was putting many, many miles on the car driving to see them, from Santa Barbara to San Diego and points in between.
"Sexy" is blazing your own path with amazing talent and staying True to yourself no matter the odds or what others think. JOHNETTE... is sexy. Amazing.
I somehow missed this song when I went through my original Concrete Blonde phase, but that oversight has since been corrected...primarily due to this particular upload. Thanks. I love this song. It's one of the few that stay on my ipod no matter what.
Got turned on to these guys in '88 when i was stationed in Germany.. JN has an awesome smoky voice and is one of the best lyricists in rock music.. god love ya Johnette!
Amazing lead guitar work, Johnette's vocals and some incredibly tasty bass here. Wiki says Concrete Blonde is "retired." Too bad. Such as amazing band.
Johnette is the one who retired the band. They found out on stage along with everyone else. Johnette did some gigs here and there but hasn't helped herself by falling all over sloppy drunk and cutting it short. Too bad. All their albums are great.
I've loved this band since day one. The passion and feeling will and does bring powerful images of sadness and pain and longing. A soul singing sadness into being. Great albums.
I can't thank you enough. I listen to this song every day in my car. People that take the time and effort to share like you do, are so VERY appreciated. You are the best.
To me this song is a metaphor of their success. They stepped right to the edge of huge fame and took a half step back. I love playin' their stuff in my car and my passengers say, "whoa, who is this?"
I've many times wondered who she was (writing to and) singing to. The cameras were there, yes, but she sang beyond all that plastic and glass. Just wonderful.
We are the same age - hoping she's doing well! Just retired on 'medical disability' LOL!!! Have been a fan of hers since listening to Jonestown and discovering Joey.
Johnette is undoubtably one of, if not THE, greatest female voices in rock. As below, hell she and Janis Joplin should even be mentioned in the same breath. Don't get me wrong, Janis paved the way for the gals and I respect her for that, but she really just didn't have a good voice.
@HGbunny i completely agree with you on that. johnette napolitano is indeed one of the greatest if not THE greatest rock chick there ever was. a very dark and gorgeous front for l.a. rock. i never did like janis joplin.
@crissum Thanks for your opinion, friend! :-) I think I agreed w/what you're saying at the end of my comment. I by no means was ever a Janis fan. I quit bands that wanted me to cover her. I realize there may be a misunderstanding because at one point I typo'ed "should," instead of, "shouldn't (even be mentioned in the the same breath...)" My only positive was that she paved the way for women to follow. Since we have the same opinion of her, I hope you don't think we're BOTH idiots! Much love!
@ohravenous1 it is rather difficult... most people don't realize it's harder than playing guitar & singing. I often have to explain why... theoretically, it should be easier with bass since there's usually only 1 note at a time, but it's easier to just strum chords on a guitar than to try to play some tricky rhythm on bass! I also agree on the emotion part :)
I managed to snag the ConcreteBlonde handle on Twitter and couldn't figure out how nobody had this name. Such an underrated band. They should have been huge, instead of shit like Madonna.
@HGbunny I am not even going to put Johnette anywhere down to the level where that joplin gal is buried. And I am not 'getting' you wrong, I am telling you, that you ARE wrong. She only paved the way to her own grave, and strung a bunch of LSD "flashbacks" to tell about it. And if you wish to respect that, feel free. Screw all the "tip toeing around the bush, and being nice about it all". She couldn't sing to save her own sorry ass Life. Literally! She's Dead! Dirty red bandanna and all.
man those 2 people who disiked this song.... i mean your intitled to your own opinion but i think you seriously need to rethink your taste in music. I'm a Deathmetal freak and even i love concrete blonde so i seriously think you need to stop and think a minute just saying

Could this band be THE most underrated band in rock history- I think so!
Agree
Johnette's vocals and lyrics and James' riffs and tone..
I forced them on all my friends in college!
У этой группы должны быть миллионые просмотры . У Джанетт очень приятный тембр голоса . Музыка очень мелодична. Группа SUPER 👍
how did you hear them?? как ты их услышал??
Incredible songwriter ~ Her lyrics are pure poetry. Great band and the sound still holds up.
Beatifically.
I miss this band so much please come back Concrete Blonde.
My favourite Concrete Blonde song.
My wife loves this...thought I’d check it out...listening to her music explains a lot lol ...but WHAT A VOICE

Sometimes Johnette just nails it. This is one of those times.
Saw them many times. Met them a few times. Always so nice. And such great music.
What a beauty of a song. My favorite hopeless romantic song writer of all time
Ah Johnette..........pure talent, emotion and passion your entire life and you have to watch all the untalented pukes rise to the top of the heap. Don't worry......I love you.
My favorite song of theirs. So underrated all the way around!!!
Love, love love this song..why doesn't anyone else?
concrete blonde was my favorite album from my younger life...
the cure and depeche mode made it...why not concrete blonde?
Johnette smokes the cure and depeche mode
Timing.
Rap came on the scene so suddenly CB was passe.

How can anyone not like this? Perfection.
This remains one of my favourite songs from them.
One of the best songs of one of the finest bands in the face of earth... BTW, Johnette looks absolutely beautiful here...
any negativity is just to get a reaction... her voice and lyrics are awesome and the band is tight. always love to hear them.
Amazing lead guitar work, Johnette's vocals and some incredibly tasty bass here. Wiki says Concrete Blonde is "retired." Too bad. Such as amazing band.
+Marsha Rupe Look at their web site. They have been touring this fall and still have one more gig in Oakland, Ca.
Marsha Rupe Concrete Blonde is retired however Johnette is not.
Johnette is the one who retired the band. They found out on stage along with everyone else. Johnette did some gigs here and there but hasn't helped herself by falling all over sloppy drunk and cutting it short. Too bad. All their albums are great.
One of my favs. So well written and performed. I miss this band.
It’s unbelievable how many people I’ve had to introduce concrete blonde to over the years. They all say wow how come I’ve never heard them before.
I've loved this band since day one. The passion and feeling will and does bring powerful images of sadness and pain and longing. A soul singing sadness into being. Great albums.
From one of the great debut albums of the 1980s..quickly found their mojo working live and gained a respectable following with their edgy rock sound.
I can't thank you enough. I listen to this song every day in my car. People that take the time and effort to share like you do, are so VERY appreciated. You are the best.
Love Concrete Blonde! So talented yet so underrated
To me this song is a metaphor of their success. They stepped right to the edge of huge fame and took a half step back. I love playin' their stuff in my car and my passengers say, "whoa, who is this?"
Great band!
Love all their stuff.
Her voice makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention!
No question, Johnette's voice is a thing of beauty.
one of my favorites, I loved this cassette 😀😀
Band from another planet...
Superb Debut Album! Must listen to the whole thing. Especially "It will Chew You Up and Spit You Out!"
this is the first CB song i ever heard, mid 80's, i've been a fan ever since.....lucky enough to have seen them twice live....
Such talent. I love Johnette. Such an underated band. They influenced so much of the music in the past 30 years.
This song is life ❤️
I've many times wondered who she was (writing to and) singing to. The cameras were there, yes, but she sang beyond all that plastic and glass. Just wonderful.
Can't speak to this song, but after his death she acknowledged Joey was about Marc Morelands from Wall of Voodoo
Happened upon this group by chance.
Great! Kick ass group.
Tony Balto. Maryland

'Can Make Me Cry' is the reason I learned to play guitar!
Great song! 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵
Johnette was awesome, but give James Mankey his due. Phenomenal guitarist!!
Iconic. ❤

The Original D.C. 9:30 Club... 25 years ago? Hard to say... Great Show.

id like to see a concrete blonde video of 100 games of solitaire or (You're the Only One)Can Make Me Cry if possible
great song!
i'm dancing....
Amazing
The guitar melody starting at about 3:12 reminded me of something... seems it's a nod to Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon".
Se pasa la negra Napolitano!!!...temazooooo
ICH GLAUBE VIELEN SCHON

This video isn't even mentioned in the Concrete Blonde wiki entry.
Johnette is the better song writter, but I hate to try and compare the two. They are both incredible in different ways.
